Are vendors generally ok replacing items that are zapped then? I've been lucky so far in that I haven't had anything disappear (at least nothing I've noticed), its good to know there is at least some recourse in place.

The only time I've lost inventory is when I've dragged a non-copyable item out of it and it failed to rezz. That's happened to me just once in 3 years, and fortunately the merchant was very nice about replacing it.

Generally, I keep all of my inventory that's not in active use boxed up. I have several pieces of 16m2 that I store these boxes on. I've found that to be a very effective way of keeping things from disappearing from my inventory. Unfortunately, like a squirrel who buries acorns, I can't always remember WHICH 16m2 has which inventory, so I have to go scavaging. Still, storing on land is safer generally than storing in inventory, if you've got several thousand items anyway. (And all the Lindens I've talked to have backed me up on that.)

Just a thought.

(touching wood) I have not lost anything from my inventory, to my knowledge.

I have lost stuff though, on a few occasions. I had a complete skybox home utterly vanish one day, while I was in it. It did not get accidentally deleted, nor did it go into my lost and found. It just ceased to be. It didn't cost me anything but time as I had built it myself.

More recently I lost the same L$900 item twice in short order. I had accidentally set it up with the wrong group tag on, and it was autoreturned into oblivion. (yes I rezed everything in lost and found to ensure it wasn't coalesed. It plain wasn't there.) So I went and bought another copy of it, and the transaction took my money but failed to deliver the product.

Despite these problems, I do use storage prims all the time. Maybe I have a more laid-back attitude towards these things, but I don't need every last thing with me every second; if I don't use something for a week, it goes into storage and out of my inventory. I've got less than 2000 items in inventory, and in my 'basement' I have about 8 cubes, each with a different 'category' of stuff stored in it.

If my storage cubes vanish, I'll be surprised and dismayed, but none of it is stuff I'm using so it can't be a huge loss.

Oh, and hope that the Lindens don't do an unannounced rollback of your sim and wipe out $2k worth of nocopy stuff you just put out :)

Yeah I got one of those rollbacks the other night - thank goodness everything I had put out was copyable. It was bizarre - some dude dressed like the grim reaper wandered into my skybox and politely asked to have a look around - almost no one wanders into my skybox. Then after I did a few things the sim went down, and when I came back everything was the way it was before the grim reaper came, and my visitor counter didn't have a record of him. I had to wonder if I was hallucinating.

Seriously though - I have so much stuff in my inventory, no matter how many times I clean it out - around 8,000 items - that if a few things turned up missing, I likely wouldn't notice unless it was something important.

People keep saying they will get a lawyer, yet no one does.

I won't say that.... I dislike it when people always threat with lawyers and alike.

1. Get people to pay you real money for fake money used in your game.

2. Ignore bugs that delete items randomly to make these people pay you more money for more fake money to replace the deleted items.

3. Profit!

:D

If I've lost anything, I haven't noticed. 20k of things inventory makes it hard to tell. :)

Thought I lost something recently, but it turned out to be no-copy and I wasn't paying attention to the confirmation pop-up. :)

With *FEW* exceptions, all the valuable items I have are ones I've built myself, ... and I've got so many versions of them as I tinkered with them that if I lose the most current I can just pick up at the previous version.

I haven't noticed anything missing from my inventory, but then I have only been here for 4 months or so,

but.............

I logged on a few days ago and looked about my house, only to see that several sets of poseballs had gone missing. I have spent the last few weeks noticing that my area appears to be on the main teleport route out from Help Island as I have had to explain to several newbie couples that they were, in fact, on private property - I have a kinda open door policy.
So I spent the next day muttering under my breath about "damn noobs" and researching security systems. How embarrassed was I when I remembered that they have an invisible mode and that someone ( ha! maybe me?) might have turned this on? /1 show, and lo and behold, my poseballs were back.

D'OH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mutters under breath "apologies to damn noobs" and walks away red-faced.........

I think a lof of people that are losing things are indeed complaining...there is either a "We are sorry that happened" response or none at all. I know someone who lost a huge folder filled with poseballs and reported it, a number of times, and hasnt had a reply. I went to pick up a house with all its contents (which Ive done several times) only to have it poof one day when there were some isses (the warning for which I didnt get until after I lost the $2kL houe and furniture). Also, complained, no reply ever.

Like others stated here, I guess you just get used to it and start ignoring your losses after a while of being ignored

*raises her hand* This is pretty much where I stand. I just got rid of a lot of useless stuff (meaning stuff I hadn't sorted through, hadn't deleted duplicates of and oh, for the love of my sanity, I should just not have picked up in the first place!)

I'd notice if my hair/skin/eyes went poof. I'd notice it if one of my outfits went poof and I'd notice it if one of my dragons went poof... everything else is kinda.. Eh.

The reason not many people complain is either they left Sl already, or their like the rest of us (used to it and not able to get LL to fix it). I've been having this among many many other problems with Sl this whole week. As you can see nobody responded to my topic about "grid stability" yet. I assume it is because everyone here already knows it's just gona end just like every other topic about it. Same for this one. Nothing will be accomplished at all. :/

As a merchant, I tend to keep a list of customers and if someone requests another copy of an item I don't have a problem replacing it. There seems to be a general reluctance to replace no copy, transfer items though.

It's getting to the point where I'm hesitant to buy something for fear of just loosing it anyway. Not so much on cheaper items, but on bigger ticket ones.

Well not sure if this was a rare fluke or what, but a L$900 object that I lost on March 11th, appeared in my lost and found folder last night. Of course I'd bought a replacement a week ago but I was quite surprised to have the original re-appear. I hadn't done any cache clearings recently either (did a lot of that on the 11th though when the object vanished).

There have been reports of things reappearing, appearing in lost n found, your trashcan, all sorts of weirde places. But LL is very concerned about comerce in SL, and even if only 1 in 10 people loose 1 $100L item each month, that still means we're seeing a loss in the millions each month, and in the billions annually.

Now imagine if a RL bank lost a few million each month, an dwe just had to "suck it up".. that would be fixed really fast!

Ive only lost attachments I was wearing, they were fine, I TP'd they were glued to my bottom so I relogged. when I came back every attachment I had on was unattached. they were all still listed in my inventory but any attempt to rez or wear resulted in a DB error.

I've lost several thousands of items and have been bugging the Lindens about it since NOVEMBER. They've yet to reply to my queries other than to give me a useless note card which retrieved nothing. I canceled my premium account as well, it's not worth it to me to give my money to a company with such shoddy service.

I've lost many things by simple rezzing... A hint to anyone suffering of this problem. Go to the sim you lost the item in and check location <0,0,0> which should be the SW sim corner. You may find the item there. It's a long shot but there is a chance since thats where things go before they rez completely. Some people who own that section of a sim sometimes leave auto return on, but not everyone does.
