dude you do post a lot about that place, I can see why ppl get frustrated, give it a rest already

I am suspicious that you do it in the guise of questions, to get more exposure

put it in your sig line, and just post like the rest of us

as for making it more real, go to a real city and take a real pic

PS don't get me wrong, I like what you have done, the pics I have seen look great, but I just feel as though you do post about it tooooo much

and I gave you advice, just not the advice you were seeking

stop posting so much about that sim, it is edging onto advertising

LOL same with my post, my post seemed a little rude to me so I added to it to show I was not being bitchy, just wanted to let you know how it seems to me (and I can not speak for others)

add to that the frustration of SL messing up

blah

sorry if I seemed rude

Building Tips - /8/1.html
Discuss techniques, ask questions about using Second Life build and edit tools

Texturing Tips - /109/1.html
Discuss techniques, ask questions about using Second Life clothing templates and texturing tools

---

On-topic: SL lacks most of the elements (light, shadow, reflections, etc) to make anything look realistic, or even decent for modern 3D standards.

I think most people who spend a lot of time in SL are used to judging things by SL's standards, so just do the best you can do and it'll be fine :).

Use more prims. *giggle*

After the 25 prim barstool I had to say that.

Oh, and you do post about this sim enough where it looks more like advertizing.
It almost seems like the real question is: "Doesn't this look surprisingly real and don't you want to live/have a business here?"

When I want feedback on my builds, I usually ask people in-world to take a look. There's only so much a 2d picture can show about a 3d environment.

Vehicles on the street?

Litter?

Birds?

local light sources?

Any of the above might help.

The build itself looks good, but the brown haze makes it look like you're downwind from majorly poluting industrial complex.

Ummm...I think you've made it look just about as real as SL will allow--other than baking a few more shadow, adding a bit more smaller detail-debri...

I don't think you're looking for ideas...I think you're showing off...as you rightly should, this build is very impressive for a low-prim (poly) scene.

Seriously though, it's very well done. Perhaps lighten it up a bit?

What about adding some fog...simulated volumetric fog. You could layout some slender prims and place slowly moving (real or rendered) fog animations on them. Have them low on the ground in key places...

Your placement has to be clever if you plan to use thin alpha-based prims...so as to not have them all turn skinny at obvious locations. I think it could be done for a nice subtle touch. You already have the gritty haze...which is awesome...just a few (very slight) fog drifts might due nicely.

I think the first thing this person should do is recalibrate his display device. Its way to brownish darkish murky without much contrast.

Doesn't need to be well lit but it looks flat and dull, even the most depressing picture of a city need to have a good contrast, and here it's pretty much lacking of it.

It's damn impressive. Had it been placed in galleries I would be applauding the work. All the posts here look like advertising to me.

whats this commercial for again?
www.felonhall.com

"Felonhall City is a world within Second Life, a dark post apocalyptic/combat community where real people live there real second lifes.

We are a dark post apocalyptic sim, you can be yourself here, weather you are roll playing or not. This is a fairly realistic sim and we don't want people to feel they 'have' to be something they are not."

Happy now, Chaos?

roll play, does this mean we use dice?
lifes? shouldn't it be lives?

seems to me by that description (minus the bad spelling) that he already knows pretty much what it is and how it looks

I still stand by my post, it does sound a lot like advertising to me

and honestly I have not been there, and do not plan to go there. why you ask?
because it has been spammed here way too much, and I will not visit a place that keeps being shoved in my face.

(I posted a couple times about the place I was building, then I stopped, because I did not want it to seem as though I was advertising it)

just wish others would follow that example.

ah well, life moves on

Real Life isnt convincingly real enough for me, anyone any ideas on how i could improve it...?

oh, in case anyone hasnt seen Real Life ive been making my own version, so far its taken fifty years to build, but damn i am sure i could have done better... Ive an idea that if i create stuff in a sim on SL, just adding that feature alone is the way to go.. i could really have a perfect Real Life.. but reading the OP i see a problem already... addition means consequence... and i cant effect the limits of consequence to have certain knowledge of the predictability... and to define the truth i need to know the outcome of every random connected event even if it hasnt happened in Real Life yet... if i could do that, then i can make everything...convincing.
perhaps you lot know how i could make Real Life more convincing? Is making stuff in SL the way to go?

No, he shouldn`t. This is getting insanely irritating and he, I`m sure, has a few people already who have mentally noted never to visit his SIM. Some have already expressed that openly on these message boards.
