Well, unlucky me! Second Life doesnt accept my credit card provider! Im stuck with a whopping 0$L, and I really badly want to buy some stuff for my av. What do you suggest i do? I am blind as far as building is concerned, and i dont really understand LSL, and the lsl wiki is like spanish to me!

Okay... this is the second thread you've started about your need for L$ (and in the first you stated you'd rather buy currency if you could) and your search for free slots: Free Slot and LiveMusic Questions.

It sounds to me as if you have the wrong card and thus won't be accepted, so let's point you in the direction of getting a proper card as it's quite simple...

If you're in the US and you're "unbanked" (meaning you don't have a bank account):

You can walk into any number of discount retailers and purchase a stored-value card, such as the one offered by American Express (I used to use one sold through 7-11). If you live by a Wal-Mart wander in and take a look around in the gift cards section. Feel free to ask a clerk if they have any Visa, MasterCard, or American Express stored value cards.

You can walk into a number of banks and order an American Express traveler's cheque card. Works just like a stored value card. You buy the card and load it to a certain amount (and pay a fee).

You're not in the US or no discount retailers or banks in your area _and_ you don't live in a repressive regime that forbids the ownership of private property or the use of stamps _and_ doesn't use giant stone wheels as currency? No worries:

1) Get an e-gold.com account. It's free. (Yay! You now have an offshore numbered gold account! Cool, huh?)

2) Fund your e-gold account using a money order or international money order sent to an exchange service who will deposit your proceeds into your account (while subtracting a small fee). Yes, besides the money order an envelope and a stamp is required for this step.

3) Then, using your e-gold.com account, purchase a stored value card using a service like Visa Electron (I found this service by using Google and searching "e-gold debit card";). Yes, it's expensive, but if you want a functioning card then you want a functioning card. Plus, you can continue to add funds to your card using e-gold.

And presto! You now have a functioning 16-digit card to use to verify your Second Life account as Payment Info on File, can upgrade your account to Premium, and even purchase L$ on the LindeX.

Sidenote (and not directed at Sir Snookums): Yeah, one of my biggest complaints about Second Life _is_ the number of people in Second Life who complain that they can't get a 16-digit card to upgrade their account, etc., etc., and yet these are the same sort of people who want to tell you about their mad crazy haxx0r ski11z and how Neuromancer is their favorite book and how they really liked the scene where Johnny Mad-Haxx0r-Ski11z transferred a bazillion kajillion neuro-cred$ to his account on the orbiting space station of GigaGloboBankCorp and he can now retire and drink tranya out of the skull of his former nemesis and YET these same people can't use the "Interweb," envelopes, stamps, pens, nor have the linguistic dexterity to stand at a counter at a post office and buy a freaking money order USING CASH (that they could most likely get by selling the corneas of the person sitting next to them) so they can fund a stored value card.

I scanned the replies quickly, so apologize if this has been mentioned above. Look for work in SL. You should have no problem finding a job that pays you L$50-75 or more per hour.

Sorry i keep posting, i have recently (as in, about, 4 days ago) underwent oral surgery, and I have been suffering from minor amnesia due to the medicine used in the surgery (it wasnt what one would call, "light and fluffy";) and, to top it off, the gum area from what had been "modified" is infected, so ive been suffering excruciating pain, and im trying to get my mind off of it by using SL... e-gold looks good, but i have to say, im not much of a fan of websites and services like paypal, becuase a few years ago, my credit card was stolen, and drained... I got the money back in a few weeks, but i really didnt have much to use in the mean-time, beucase I had justmade a deposit... Again, I also dont trust the Wal-mart, 7-11, Cost-Co, ect. credit cards, becuase most of them dont have fraud protection. And even then, to retreive your money, it can cost alot,(it costed 1000$ I reallycouldnt afford at the time :(. ) Also, I've applied for a few jobs, and im quite excited to get feedback.

This is gonna sound harsh, but if you are wary of the options given to you, (and there were many) then there's nothing we can do to help you, being bound and determined not to use anything.

Everything in life has a value of wariness (online banking, going out in public with a checkbook, etc.), it's up to you to determine risk versus reward.

If you can't spare the money where you can do without it while it takes time to process, then I'd suggest not using your money to buy L.

Nothing has full fraud protection, even if they have pretty signs that say they do. Also, when you buy this card, loading it only with funds you wish to have on SL, you can come straight home and load it through SL, leaving the balance on that card empty, so there is no loss.

If I were you though, being so wary of so much, I wouldn't even put my money in SL. I'm sure you heard of the recent break in and therefore your information could be at risk there as well.

yeah, i think i might switch cards tho, to an AMEX, so, i may be able to get $L, but it woulod be about, a year before I switch... also, becuase it is virualt money, and not millions of it, im okay with loosing it. However, the recent security breech does make me worried about buying $L in the future, because I know what hackerscan do. (I've tried my hand at it...)

Edit: I took the risk!!! XD I bought 10 USD worth of $L!!!!!!!Now, what would you spend it on?

I'm not familiar with Sarah's place, but it sounds great.

The Free Dove, The Shelter, and NCI can be searched for in-game using the search button. Shelter & NCI specifically have freebies for $0, and money trees.

Edit: here are locations for the above:

Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise: Philereme (204, 151, 55)
The Free Dove: Gallii (113, 53, 33)
NCI: Kuula (54, 175, 29)
The Shelter: Isabel (44, 244, 79)

another way to buy lindens
06-18-2007 13:47
I had a very weird buying lindens problem too.
One day, i couldn't buy lindens anymore. I would try to purchase lindens, via my SL viewer, but the damn 'purchase' button wouldn't work. I thought there was a problem with my credit card. But that wasn't it at all.

Then i went to
https://secure-web6.secondlife.com/currency/buy.php

You can reach the LindeX exchange just by logging into the secondlife website. Then you buy lindens there. I was able to buy lindens there at the website, but not in the SL viewer.

If i remember correctly, the bank the lindens use is in the United Kingdom. Your credit card company might have a security feature in place to prevent someone on the other side of the world from suddenly charging you money. You can call your credit card company and ask.

Also, Mastercard seems to function better for international purchases. Visa is bigger than mastercard in north america, but in europe it is the reverse.

Also it's a good idea to get a credit card JUST for internet purchases. You can get a credit card with a 500 dollar limit or something, so you don't have to worry about crazy 10 000 dollar purchases.

So it's not Mastercard or Visa? You could use Paypal .. or your could stuff LL and buy your Lindens from SLExchange or Anshe Chung Studios instead.

I'm sure there are other options, but the above entities won't cause any RISK API issues.
