I love The Boathouse, but I am not sure the music would be right for you. Some of it is classic pop from the 60s and 70s :)

I like the Avilion Ballroom, Avilion Grove, Avilion Castle Grand Ballroom.
Dress code is formal.
So if your a girl you need long dress, and if boy a suit/tuxedo.

This is the only true Ballroom I've found I would welcome knowing of others.

No camping at VooDoo Lounge. No escorts or dancers.
Djs, hosts and a diverse event schedule that changes musical genre every two hours.
Rave, Contemporary Jazz, Hardcore, Goth, Reggaeton, Top 40 and 80's. I will drop you a event schedule.

Club Industry
PIRANHA

The clientel of the latter are really into particles, which fits the place. Sometimes it's really neat, and sometimes there's one particle fountain AV that sucks every one else dry :-)

Club industry is, well, industrial. Usually less tech-y. Sometimes they do 80's sets.

The Blarney Stone in Dublin sim.

The Elbow Room! always friendly!

And a plug for my homies:
BiSL has a dance every Friday night at Evolution on Impulse at 8 pm SLT; we're not completely PG but we're close enough, and always have a good crowd.

I'm a huge Carribean Breezes fan myself. Sometimes lag does me in, but it's well worth an attempt. I'm a junkie - hang out there at least a little while most days. A while ago the owners capped the number in the sim at 80, and it was INCREDIBLE!

I also enjoy Blackhearts, an 80s music club, though it may not suit your musical taste. They seem to fill up during events, though. Several times I've not been able to TP in.

My first three choices were already named: Jade's, Caribbean Breezes and Blarney Stone.

Less frequented, but with nice music and great atmosphere:

Club Egret - Big Band era dance music, 1940s-era classy-ballroom atmosphere, formal attire requested - you expect to see Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall dancing slowly, cheek-to-cheek.

Sphynx Jazz Club - also classy ballroom atmosphere, soft jazz, occasional live music.

Blue Fusion Jazz Club - again, classy ballroom, soft jazz and standards, but in an open-air oceanside setting with a large garden nearby. My impression is it has somewhat more live music events, but not certain.

Anyone have any suggestions of places they like to go dancing - without camping chairs and strippers? Oh, and no casinos either.

I'm not going to tell you because then hoards of avatars will go there and ruin it.

This place is neat for Rave/Techno

~ Cirque Mystique ~, Oceanus (192, 123, 21)

We have a club that is open 24/7 for anyone wishing to learn how to dance and meet but only run events on Thursday and Saturday 9-11 with themes and prizes.

Nightclub Echo Echo SL's Premier, van Eyck (119, 153, 68)

No dance pads but there is a money tree outside the club. We had it built to look like a Rock and it is a Rock Club with mostly Rock music. Our events are PG and we are in a mature area and do not tolerate griefers who come to shock and awwwwwwwwww us with their "parts";-)

Hope this helps. The pub in Dublin and Club V located on the Convention Sim are great too.

Everywhere I go dancing has at least one of those. I guess I'm easily attracted by boobies and gambling. To be fair in some of the places I frequent I don't notice the dancers so much, such as Club Crobar, I mean the dancers are there but there are sploders, competitions, DJ's ...it's back to the gambling now that I think about it!

My favourites so far...

The Tiki Lounge on Hedonistic Isle - awesome place! very friendly for newbies too
The Palm Club - they have rave nights and rock nights, both are great

and I like checking out the open mics at Far3ik club and the gigs at Alexandra Jazz Cafe

I came here for the music and so far it's been pretty good!
