The American Revolution: The residents unhappy about paying into the system yet not having a voice in it's Governing.

*sigh*

Noob!

This actually happened back in Sept. 2003, the citizens uprising against the prim tax. Respect your elders, damn it.

What's the economic model?

If you want to own land, you pay a monthly fee of $9.95, which increases if you buy more land. But transactions aren't taxed. In 2003, we had a tax revolt. Our version of the Washington Monument was replaced by a giant tower of tea crates. We got the message: there are no taxes now. We're running about 1.4 million transactions a month, both goods and services -- things like specialized programming.

How about Dan "Hammurabi" L and our new Moral Code?

Some Highlights ..

"If any one bring an accusation against a man, and the accused go to the river and leap into the river, if he sink in the river his accuser shall take possession of his house. But if the river prove that the accused is not guilty, and he escape unhurt, then he who had brought the accusation shall be put to death, while he who leaped into the river shall take possession of the house that had belonged to his accuser."

"If any one bring an accusation of any crime before the elders, and does not prove what he has charged, he shall, if it be a capital offense charged, be put to death."

"If he hold the slaves in his house, and they are caught there, he shall be put to death."

"If a man's wife be surprised (in flagrante delicto) with another man, both shall be tied and thrown into the water"

"If a man violate the wife (betrothed or child-wife) of another man, who has never known a man, and still lives in her father's house, and sleep with her and be surprised, this man shall be put to death, but the wife is blameless."

"If the 'finger is pointed' at a man's wife about another man, but she is not caught sleeping with the other man, she shall jump into the river for her husband."

"If a builder build a house for some one, and does not construct it properly, and the house which he built fall in and kill its owner, then that builder shall be put to death."

"....In a sense we have come to the grid to cash a check. When the architects of our metaverse wrote the magnificent words of the ToS and Community Standards, they were signing a promissory note to which every Resident was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men, yes, and women, and furries and residents of all kinds, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of land with subscription, flying and the pursuit of prim happiness.

It is obvious today that Linden Lab has defaulted on this promissory note insofar as its residents are concerned. Instead of honoring this sacred obligation, Linden Labs has given the residents a bad check, a check which has come back marked "insufficient funds." But we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this metaverse.

So we have come to cash this check — a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice. We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind Linden Lab of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of "Your World, Your Imagination". Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of "report thy neighbor, because we can't define 'Broadly Offensive'" to the sunlit path of Freedom of Expression. Now is the time to lift our world from the quick sands of ignorant and injust ARs to the solid rock of brotherhood, sisterhood and furryhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of Phillip's children."

Coincidence? You decide.
And continuing the practice started by the OP to make wildly inappropriate historical parallels, it is reminiscent of how POW's in some of the Japanese Camps during WW!! woke up one morning and found themselves alone, the guards having fled during the night.

from the Age discrimantion thread :)

------------------------------------------------

An overly used and lame reference -
Comparing any sort of SL "discrimation" to the Civl rights movement in the US.

A constantly used and lame reference-

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.

Damn Colette, way to necropost! :p

How about Jesus' smashing through the Temple saying something about "no money changers here" (I apologize for the paraphrasing, I'm not Christian) with regards to the "LindeX is evil for enabling the trading of securities" threads?
