I had asked someone that I know who is currently on the Teen Grid about Teen Life and the transistion. Now we have an actual teen/adult transfer in this thread, so more direct back and forth can occur on this thread.

Here is the information that I received:

"Hiya, Thanks for contacting me!

I don't get many e-mails through Flickr so its great that you have e-mail me :). Yes that is correct I will be transferring to the MG in December this year (9 months away).

I've been playing Teen Second Life since October 2006, I've made many friends and i'm well known both in TSL, RL, TSL Forums. Teen Second Life is for Teens 13-17 once they turn 18 years old from what I've heard they have to send in a picture with ID to Linden Lab then they get transferred to the MG. However before they leave they can choose to have a party and make finally choice if chosen to do so to come back to TSL as a approved adult on one of the educational islands e.g. Global Kids, Eye4you Alliance etc.

When they turn 18 they will be moved to a welcome area on the Main Grid Transfer Station before they visit anywhere on the main grid and could be put into a bridge building group or Teen Transfers Group by LL to welcome them onto MG etc.

How it works:
1. Teens keep all their content in their inventorys when they move up to MG
2. Their friends list gets cleaned/deleted > so they would need to email each other or find each other when they leave tsl for example
3. Teens will be moved from the Teen Grid name database after time
4. Teen Group list that a teen is in will be deleted > start all over again i have heard
5. Teens can transfer their island to the MG if they have brought one but they cannot transfer a rented or land brought on mainland
6. Be moved from the TSL Forums to MG forums
7. They will have to find new friends, explore new places, make stuff, join in or make events etc when they come to the MG

8. Griefing in TSL is the same as the MG however LL closely watches it more, but can be dealed with by reporting abuse, nothing really seems to be done about it.

I've had some friends move to the MG lately, i keep in contact through skype etc and they said that they want to come back to the TG as they miss their friends alot and also they hate the mature stuff on the MG. Also they don't play as much on the MG then they used to when on the TG. However some of my friends say is awsome!

For me i can't wait to leave TSL, it sounds awsome so much to do and stuff.

I'd like to display that map in-world as part of NCI's SL map collection in Nova Civis Caledon. Do you mind?

I've asked permission, and I have been told that anything on his Flickr page(s) are also available to be used. He does have some in world pictures of Teen Life also, if you are anyone else or interested in seeing what the inside of Teen Life looks like.

Hi, Asuka...Welcome to the main grid. Actually, I don't mean to derail this thread, but I've been curious about the teen grid for some time and it's good to talk to someone who actually was on there. My daughter turns 13 in October and is very interested in joining Teen Life. I'm concerned because 13-17 is a large age span, especially in terms of maturity.

Are there many younger teens on Teen Life, and is everything pretty much kept aboveboard?

Also, it sounds like she would be made to feel welcome, at least from your post. Would that actually be the case?

Thanks for your answers and there may be some other forumites who have the same questions for children of their own.

ya the 13-17 age range is a little bit of a jump but surprisingly most are very mature but yet there are some that are beyond dumb, i was in teen grid for about 3-4 months before i turned 18 and came over here, only complaints i would have agenst teen grid are the 1 in 20 morons that you run into and the overall economy

More helpful information from my Teen Life friend:

"A teen can not change their name once they have signed up with TSL or MG, however if their first name is with a lower case letter LL could change it for them, Yes the name moves over to the MG and also the name still remains in the teen database for a while i think.

Oh another thing to tell you and the MG is that on the Teen Grid there are only 2 help islands and orientation islands which are inactive, the orientation island 1 only gets about 20 - 50 new residents per day not even that and for the rest of the HI + OI's islands thats been inactive since early 2005 - 2006. Also there are 2 popular helping groups called TSL Mentors 2.0 with 260 mentors in and TSL Welcomers with 130 members in.

There are about 8 public teen sims plus the small mainland with 4 eductional islands for teens to learn. There are about 2000 teens in teen second life from the stats a couple of months ago, there less than 500 teens who play TSL now compared to 2005 where there were more active users. The forums are dead on the teen almost, the plans are to have 11 new sims on the teen grid from Linden Pulbic works project. I'm hoping that TSL will really expand more etc by the end of the year.

I think the younger and older teens mesh together very well on the teen grid. In a lot of cases I found 13/14 year olds that acted more mature than some of the 16/17 year olds there. I've been good friends with people 3 or 4 years younger than me and had no problem getting along. No one really cares how old you are.

There are a lot of mature teens but there are some also some that are hilarously immature. There's a lot of "cn i plz hve sum Lz pllzzzzz!!???!11 cn i have 100l. omg chica plz i pay u back, plz. cn i lik have ur hair texturz plx idk how to make any. ppl wont gimmy therz!!!" kind of stuff.

Another thing thats nice about the teen grid is that you don't get creepy guys trying to hit on you. (I noticed that that seems to be a common occurrence here) I haven't had any bad experiences with mature content on the teen grid, well maybe once when someone uploaded an inappropriate image. (although I've heard about it happening rarely with severe consequences) Teens caught with mature content have their inventories erased and are suspended or banned. (at least thats how I remember it)

Also teen own island's tend to be pretty nice, but the mainland sims are disasters. Typical TG mainland region:

So, what you're saying is the teen main grid looks exactly like the Adult main grid only with fewer porn shops?

BTW - the adult content in SL's Adult Grid has to have some effect on teens coming in from the Teen Grid. At that age, I don't know how I would have reacted. At my age, I'm pretty much able to just tune stuff out and ignore whatever I'm not into, but at 18, I was one huge sack of hormones. I have no idea how I would have reacted to being dumped into the main grid. How are the new residents from the teen grid reacting to that aspect of SL?

Definitely not exactly the same looking. The teen grid is micro sized compared to the adult grid. My initial reaction coming here was "every thing's huge!" Stores/builds, avatars, and basically everything is smaller on the teen grid. It's like we've adapted to being in a smaller environment. I felt like a dwarf walking around when I came here.

As for the mature content, I'm really not interested in it or hugely offended by it. I just ignore the idea and really don't care. I think a lot of teens feel the same way. It's definitely not like "Ewww! gross my poor virgin eyes!" or the opposite. I don't go to mature events so it's had no effect on me. I'm more interesting in designing and creating things in SL.

Cool, I think this would be the key issue for getting my nephew involved. This way he could learn some creative in game skills and eventually bring his creations over to the MG.

You seem to have a really good head on your shoulders, Asuka. It's good to hear from someone in the know on exactly what it's like on the Teen Grid. I'm definitely leaning toward letting my daughter play on there when she's old enough and I feel a bit more comfortable with the idea now. She's interested in IMVU, also, but I don't know anything about that virtual world, so I'm not too sure on that.
