I'm curious as to what this blurry effect is like for other people, anyone want to post a screen grab of theirs?.

This is how my Build floater looks when unfocused and with a white prim behind :

Okay, now that's a bug.

Just so peeps know, there's two issues here: one is the new blurred text shadows which cause problems with certain colours of text on certain coloured backgrounds (which everyone has and isn't technically a bug), the other is text being totally the wrong colour (which only some have and is a bug).

For people with the latter problem, you might want to try uninstalling and downloading a fresh installer.

Its awful looking. But at least its reminding me to blink more (to try clear the bluriness from my eyes - even though it doesnt work!)

But as you can see many are having this issue. IF or when they take care of it who knows.

Please everyone submit this as a bug. I have never in my life seen such a user unfriendly "enhancement" expect maybe for the one where hitting the alt key caused you to teleport somewhere or to sell all of your land.

I know it isn't a real bug and is something some Linden Lab employee cooked up. I think the creator of it needs glasses. :D

The more we all gripe about it the better chance it will be removed and I can stop taking Tylenol before I log into SL.

Is this a matter of having started anti-aliasing the text, or doing the outline and or shadowing differently, or what?

There's what mine looks like.

The shadow's being done differently. Before it was a simple 1px black drop shadow, now it's a variable opacity blurred shadow based on the text brightness. Richard Linden goes into the details of what's going on in the JIRA entry Simil linked.

Whatever Richard intended it to be has failed. I suggest that Richard and any other LL employee who wants to implement these sorts of things give it a beta test and ask for user opinions before they implement it.

I am not joking about the upset stomach and headache it gives me.

We were told there would be a release last week for the blurry text, but that week has come and gone, and now the release date has been put in the "when it's ready" category.

It is not a graphics card issue, this has been examined in detail, it's in the Jira, a programmer changed the way the text is displayed, he added an outline and shadow.

The result is text that is very hard to read against certain color schemes, if you don't use the darkened background on the text display.

The need to undo the change has already been acknowledged by Linden Lab.

The question is not what is causing the blurry text, or whether it exists or not, the question is when do we get the optional viewer that was said to be deployed last week?

Optional Viewer 1.15.1.3
05-14-2007 16:45
Probably so. We'll see.
From: someone

Monday, May 14th, 2007 at 3:38 PM PDT by: Joshua Linden

We’ve posted a new Optional Viewer available for download - Second Life 1.15.1. Torley Linden and Bridie Linden put together this summary of what’s in the update:This optional viewer release delivers incremental usability improvements that Residents have asked us for — some which address problems that have been around a long time, so we’re glad to see them resolved. We’re continuing to work hard on bigger projects to alleviate significant pain points, and have more major fixes coming soon (for bugs like group notices failing and Friends online not working).
Floating text is legible again! (VWR-496)
Now easier to get to Public JIRA and other bug reporting tools from the Viewer
Go to Tools menu > Bug Reporting.
New IM shortcuts
Switch between IM tabs using Alt-Left arrow and Alt-Right arrow
Use Ctrl-W to close IM tab, use Ctrl-T to close IM Window.
Ctrl-Shift-W closes all windows.
Choose whether or not system folders are auto-sorted to the top of your inventory or not!
Busy mode again automatically declines inventory offers (VWR-516).
L$ balance now displays “Loading…” (instead of being blank) while your balance is retrieved. We know how much “Where did my L$ go?” confusion this used to cause.
The Mini-Map is again open by default on a new install.
The number of textures that can be sent at a given time is now limited to 5 in 10 seconds (VWR-326)
llSetSoundQueueing works again. (VWR-42)
Inventory folders no longer unwantedly auto-open in some circumstances. (VWR-38)
Building Reference ruler works again.
First digit in the “Pay” dialog correctly erases. (VWR-165)
Open textures can be stretched vertically again. (VWR-192)
A new option has been added in Preferences > General > “Automatic preview of new notecards/textures/landmarks”
Turning this option off will display the normal blue dialog when a notecards/textures/landmarks is offered. The blue dialog will tell you who is sending the item and also give you the opportunity to Mute that person. This is especially helpful if you are being spammed.

Full release notes follow…

Hmm...

I reckon it could be a resolution issue. I had to run 800x600 fullscreen (for filming) the other day and the text doesn't look any where near as good as it did running windowed on a 1400x1050 desktop (where I normally think it looks quite lovely TUVM).

It wasn't a graphics card issue, it was a change in the way the text was displayed - its' come and gone, now, the change has already been undone in version 1.15.1.3.
