Nope, no list.
Hair + fashion seem to do pretty well, but the competition is tough and the market rather crowded. Are you looking to start a business in SL? If so, I'd recommend going for something that *you* are passionate about - having the best-selling product in SL won't help you a bit if making & selling it turns out to be the biggest bore ever for you. Instead, look around for something that *you* need or want and can't find, then make it and if it turns out well, sell it. Chances are, someone else needs or wants it too. Extra points if you discover an unfilled niche market. _____________________

Custom avatars go for a lot of L$...
But those are annoying to build, especially if you get all OCD about having the things you build be exactly as you want them... Hence the high cost. u.u |

There's a simple answer to this...quality products are what sells well. There are tons of scripters, builders, clothing designers, hair designers, ect, but the ones who do well are the ones who are talented and make quality products that stand out from the rest.

Actually, that's been the case more often than not after teleporting, or it winds up in my butt..... ![]() I shoulda mentioned Hair.... (Ironic since I have almost as much hair as I do shoes..which also seem to wind up in my butt to often) _____________________

My best selling things are my textures. High-quality texture sets designed for building things in SL, or fabric textures that can be used to make clothes. But they have to be good quality stuff. There's plenty of free drek.

Things that avatars wear, hold, or ride.
In SL, an avatar has to own/rent land in order to get much use out of furniture, buildings, and pretty much anything else. |

Quality products sell -- and by quality, I'm not referring to stuff that flashes sparkles -- adding a shine to your texture takes care of that. The only thing that should be flashing sparkles, is a fat diamond on a ring or something -- and we don't need it to flash every millisecond -- make it flash every half minute.
I've made two rings, and a watch that I've equipped on my fingers/wrist. They flash fine because of the Low shine that's been added to it. Your avatar is always moving (adjust his/her pose), so naturally your jewelry will flash nicely, and look normal. I'd have to say that objects will sell good, compared to textures. Ranging from avatar equipment to furniture. I've made some nice textureless objects already, just using the colors and bumpmaps/shines. |

I can't stand over the top bling flashes. I've just made one piece of Jewelry so far, a pendant leather necklace, but the bling on it is extremely subtle, and even that can be turned off. |

Really good men's hair.
This is a perenial topic. Also men's skins, and to a lesser extent men's clothing (although that market seems to be getting better services lately). |

[RANT] Men's clothing that doesn't look like the idea came out of the Sears , Abercrombie and Fitch, or Atlanta Cutlery Catalogs. Honestly, we keep saying this: EUROPEAN FASHION will sell! (Do a full line of high quality stuff in colors I can wear, and I can guarentee you thousands of Lindens in sales from me alone.) And fgs, if you're not familiar with what the trendy and avante garde fashion houses are doing, do research. I'm getting tired of seeing stuff labeled "high fashion" or "haute couture" that looks like the basic idea came from GQ...[/RANT]
Sorry, but in all honesty, if you can find it in a magazine you can buy at Wal-Mart, it's NOT good fashion. Not for men, anyway. Kam _____________________

Yes and amen to quality clothes (for men and women, but particularly men).
I personally wish designers would step away from the "sleazy outfit" motifs and start making some really elegant, or fantastic creations. This is SL, where ANYTHING is possible... and so many designers are making sleazy tights and tops (which serve a purpose but there are soooooo many). Let's see some great texturing, wonderfully wild styles and things that we can only dream of wearing in real life. People with disposable cash will always pay for quality. That's the bottom line. _____________________

the contents of this post are entirely the opinion of the poster, and probably have no real-world (or, im thinking i have to coign a phrase here, realvirtual world) value.
The Big Kahuna Holy Grail: land Big Ticket Top Selling Money Making Stuff: skins hair clothes avatars (ie: full prim or semiprim furries, etc) accessories (from jewelry to wings) (i was told, and i believe it, that anything that makes one's avatar look good/cool is the top priority for anyone in second life.) buildings gambling sex (probaby gambling makes more, since theres so much free sex, supposedly. i wouldn't know; i don't care.) Big Expensive High Demand Stuff: utility scripts (security, vendors, games/gambling machines, building scripts) vehicles weapons furniture poses landscaping Small Frills Low Demand Stuff: pets toys non-utility scripts ('cute' gadgets, jokes, silly stuff) animals (not wearable/following pets, but free range or stationary animals) art (painting and statuary) Things NObody Wants: um...? self-griefing tools? yeah, that's it! wear this and crash yourself out of 2l every time! what fun! im sure i forgot some kind of object or category somewhere. as for me, i have little to NO interest in clothing and hair and jewelry. as for making weird avatars.... i want to, but that will take some time. stuff i actually like and am interested in are way down at the bottom of the list: animals, pets, toys... that sort of thing. but that has never stopped me before... ;) |

I think land is pretty slim margins from what I know reading and talking to land sellers.

Does anyone have any idea as to what sells the best, i.e., makes the most money, in SL - besides real estate and scripts? Or, is there anyplace that list this info? Maybe this will give you some clues: It was just a few days before Easter When in through the beautiful door Of Maxwell's Exotique Emporium Swept Lady Belinda Fox-Gore. Sebastian Sleek, chief assistant, Oozed across with a smirk and a smarm And bowed low in a glitter of Brylcreem, Saying: 'May I assist you, Madaam?' 'Yes,' said Lady Fox-Gore with a whinny And a waft of her elegant hand, 'You may bring me a box of soft nails And a saxophone made out of sand;' 'And I want a glass wig for my nephew And a case of your happiest cheese And a bottle of fog from Vienna And a dozen young Oxfordshire fleas;' 'Oh, I nearly forgot, bring an igloo And some edible towels and a gong And a cardboard guitar and a post box And a fork with a wobbly prong;' 'And two ounces of bone-china rhubarb And a tortoise for warming the bed And a packet of knotted spaghetti And some liquid for polishing bread;' 'Have you horses? Young Charlie loves horses, So I'll take twenty-three of the best And a pair of wire socks and a molehill And one half of a plasticine vest;' 'And a chair with five legs and a milk float And a puddle to hang on the wall And that thing over there with a helmet And a couple of cod - and that's all.' Mr Sleek slaved away with brown paper Till at last he had everything wrapped, Then he wished Lady Gore: 'Happy Easter,' 'Do you mean it's not Christmas?' she snapped. 'And I thought it was deepest December, I'm a silly Milady she sighed, Now I won't need a thing; please excuse me As my taxi is waiting outside.' So she left with a flounce and a flourish And a swish of the beautiful door, While, dissolved into tears, poor Sebastian Seeped away through a crack in the floor. Rock |
