The grid is down for maintenance, which leads one to random ponderings and such.

What items have become simply indespensible to you in-world?

For personal items, it's probably either my hair, my skin, or my glasses. These define my avvie is sooo many ways. The glasses I bought my first day in world, and I've hardly changed my hair (and haven't changed my skin) since I got them, months ago.

For household items, some of the special gifts I have been given (the play house from my sister being first on that list), or the trophy I won in the Bubbly Kidz pageant.

An I'd totally be lost without my Mystitool.

Anyone else have items you simply would be crushed to lose?

Mari

P.S.: Like someone else said, I mean tangible items like what one could have in their inventory: I'd lose all of the above before I'd give up - as it was put below - those who have the ability to map me. ;-)

-LOL my JEVN servers! Oy vey I can't even imagine redoing them all again.

-My store's inventory, although I have that backed up in so many places, its not likely to ever happen.

-Something that is irreplaceable? I honestly don't think I have anything that if lost, I couldn't make again or purchase. OO I do have a pair of super cool Chuck Taylors that you can't get in-world anymore, since the creator doesn't put the actual Converse label on them anymore. Wish I would have bough more colours of them at the time.

Some screenshots of memories and friends, from simpler times.

Would break my heart to lose those.

ETD hair and Celestial Studios skins; my indispensible Mystitool HUD ; Fa Nyak neko ears and the aqua kitty eyes which show no creator in Properties, so I probably couldn't replace them if they were eaten by the data monster; my locket from SS Creations, complete with pic of my adorable man; Shiny Things Lola shoes in black (they've left my feet exactly once since I bought them); my AO, because the default anims suck so badly; Paradise Blanket, which is possibly the coolest thing in SL and also has a lot of sentimental value...I probably need some clothes here but, much as I love shopping, no one outfit springs to mind as something I'd be crushed without. So I'll be naked, but well-heeled, coiffed, and eared, with a special necklace and nifty gadgets. lol

But most of all, most of all, my friends. :)

Hair, skins, my clothing and the dragons... those are pretty much what I can't live without.

My beach house and small island which gives me a sense of peace and safety when things get tough. I waited in it while my mother was dying and I couldn't be by her side because of recent surgery. I sat in my beautiful house and lit a candle and waited; the beauty and isolation of the place soothed me during a very bad time. The friends I made in SL were some of the most helpful during this period too.

SL is a pretty powerful reality when you think of it. I would hate to loose it to crappy performance, rampant smut or greed.

Since the question was "what items are indispensible to you", all those who said "my friends" can be castigated for treating your friends as "items" ...

After alot of years in this game. Alot of homes landscaped and built and sold and moved on. Alot of major inventory losses due to the quirks of SL. I sort of gave up on the things, thing. I am here with my family, we are geographically spread into 2 countries. I would not trade one moment of time spent with them for anyTHING in the world.

Go ahead and start the snipe fest for calling it a game. But until it is stable enough to NOT have regular data losses I simply cannot take it seriously enough to elevate above the game level.

My MystiTool. Never leave home without it (except when I can't TP and then I leave home and reattach when I get there) ;)

It's hard to say... so many of my favorite things, I could just buy other copies of. There are some things, like limited edition or discontinued skins, that I'd hate to lose, but I wouldn't be crushed if it happened.

I'd hate to lose the snapshots I have of old friends who are no longer in SL... those are very valuable to me. Also a piece of wall art that one of those departed friends gave me.

I have a pair of bracelets that I currently wear, made for me as a special gift... those are also really valuable to me.

I treasure my Starax cobra sculpture, because it's the only piece I have by a departed master. (We miss you, Starax!)

The land I'm living on now is probably my most treasured material thing... a lot of love and hard work has gone into making it the beautiful retreat it is.

Besides that, when I really think about it, the only things (if I can call them things) that I'd really be heartbroken to lose are my friends... nothing else means as much to me. :)

I could not enjoy SL without my hair [pazazz]and my glasses [persneckety]. Like a previous poster, they kind of define my AV. My friends are the most important though. People like Rico, Mags, Pansy, Nancy, DeFranco, Ginny..the list can go on and on.

Some places I couldn't live with out - Lone Star @ Heartland. I always find nice people there, great music and the BEST djs; Blaze for high fashion and Fashion Slave for the best in casual. Also my Farngipani design Color Change heels.

It really is a wonderful world and I love it!

What does a MystiTool do?

The Grid is back open, BTW.

My Friends, first and formost. If they were to quit or leave or whatever, that would put a dark cloud over SL for me.

My Island... I could never go back to laggy unpredictable chaotic mainland. The serenity and snappiness of a brand new covenanted sim can't be beat.

And finaly, my MystiTool. If I had to, I could script my own crummy knockoff but the Mysti does so much, and asks so little in return.

Wouldn't even want to go into Sl without my one-of-a-kind shape. After months of tweaking, everything fell into place and I could not remake it.
My land, my skin, and my mystitool also rank up there pretty high :)

Irreplaceable stuff: my Starax wand & sculptures, my wedding ring (custom made), my photo album, my Random Calliope jewelry, one of a kinds and limited edition things friends have made for me, and stuff I've made.

Irreplaceable (and really can't be "lost" by an asset server problem): my friends, my husband, memories :)

I do not love Mysti for any anti-griefing tools, I love it for the following:
- List of places you last TPd to
- Movelock (awesome for WAs)
- AV scanner (see who is around you and what they're doing)
-

It's a seriously well-built tool chock full of must haves.
