2007-08-03] Torley Linden: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- *** IMPORTANT *** DO *NOT* REZ NO-COPY OBJECTS ON LAND YOU DON'T HAVE PERMISSION TO REZ ON, YOU'LL LOSE THEM. We are working on a fix for this specific inventory loss issue ASAP, watch http://blog.secondlife.com for updates! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Last two days getting the error message Object Fails to Rezz upon several attempts. I have lost 2 items, Free Dance Chimera and Virtual Builder Studio Pack which between the two items I would say I had more than $20 US invested.

Yes, I have also lost things through this bug. Confused, though, about the "permission" issue. I thought build was allowed on the land I was trying to "rez" things on. And I know one of the places I did have permission. Well, it was my rented land instead of owned land.

Yes, I believe thats it, OWNED, does not mean rented. Hmmm, my conspiracy theorist is coming. The only reason to go premium is to own land. If you own land you don't have the rez bug. If you have a free account you obviously can only rent, so...... Guess that's one way to force people to go premium. Just make sure they can't rez anything they buy on rented land.

I think "you _may_ lose them" might be better - I tried to rez someting on no-build land last night and saw it leave my inventory then come back a couple seconds later... A real "no no no no no!!! <pause> yes yes yes yes yes!!" situation..

Permission should mean anywhere build permissions are enabled. If your BUILD button is active, you should be able to rez. And even if it gets autoreturned after some period of time, it shouldn't be lost. Torley's note seems to apply to those places where the BUILD button is not active. Normally if you try to rez something there it just fails. I gather the new bug means it will disappear from your inventory instead of just not rezzing.

You will see an error message saying ‘Failure to create object’. This also applies to parcel which are owned by you and are almost full. We are currently testing a fix to resolve the issue" Note the use of the word "owned".

An incentive, I suppose, to try to figure out how to build my own stuff.

Well I have lost stuff I rezzed on land owned by my group and I still lost it. And my friend lost several items on her land which is owned by her. So their warning should just apply to everyone right now.

Looks like I just lost my AO I've been slowly working on for the past 8 months. No clue what the animations were called or where I got them either at this point. All because I rezzed it to add a new animation. The sad part is...I was able to pick it up just fine...but had to re-rezz it to correct a spelling mistake I'd made. Went to pick it up that second time and it just hung there for 15 minutes. Relogged and cleared cache thinking maybe it'd snuck back into my inventory and my viewer was just being a butt...and poof. All gone.
Yaaaaaaaay!

It's actually worse than that, I have lost quite a lot today on one of my Group deeded parcel, which is mine, my group and things just disappeared! Good flowers, trees and cute stuff... Good bye
Why is the grid on then? That's what I can't stand about their attitude, it's too serious to not shut the grid, I'd rather wait as long as it takes for it to be fixed but not be sorry!
So what can we do right in SL ATM?
Imagine you take a plane on an 8 hours flight, than you hear half way through; "sorry, it's not safe today, be prepared for your loss!"

Note the use of the word "owned". OK, I was just going by what was quoted here by the OP. This is unclear on whether the the "have no rights to create objects" pertains on land that you don't own but do have rights to create objects on. In any case though, it doesn't fit the conspiracy theory. If you're renting and the landowner has the land owned by a group and you're a member of the group, you should be ok. Still sounds like a good time to not rez anything.

The warning needs to be changed to: *** IMPORTANT *** DO *NOT* REZ NO-COPY OBJECTS, YOU'LL LOSE THEM.
In my personal experience, being the land owner with only about 1/4 of my prims used did not spare me from losing the no-copy items I tried to rez.
Secondly, this notification should have come out the first day residents brought the issue up. Being alerted to a problem like this and not notifying residents en masse immediately was irresponsible.

[Update] We have identified several issues causing inventory to be lost as stated below. A resolution is now in place. Private Region owners and Estate Managers can feel free to restart their own region(s) for this resolution to take effect. Mainland regions will be restarted over the next few hours to resolve this issue. More information will be posted here as we receive further information. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
/crosses fingers the sim comes back online with a restart...
