Unfortunatly if you have had to replace over 50 pianos then you probably were scamed on many of those transactions. I have not found the referenced bug to be anywhere near that common.
I don't believe any of these were scams. Not a single one. I sell a lot of pianos. 50 replacements during a week like this is nothing. I have literally stood there and watched as customers have lost items after repeated attempts to rez them. This situation is terrible and I hope it is fixed as soon as possible. In the mean time, I will work with my customers to make sure they are taken care of. I just hope that all of my customers that have lost items have contacted me so I can help them.

That is very true, however, I have yet to have a vendor refuse to replace a lost item when I explained the circumstances. In fact, I'd guess half of them included a gift of some kind for my troubles even though I never considered it to be their problem to begin with.

Because it's not their responsibility I never have a presumption that I will get a replacement, I'm just happy that I've found most shop owners in SL to run a good operation with respect for their customers.
I am so glad you posted this. I find it very encouraging. Running a business in SL is no different from running a business in RL. But lots of residents have never run a business in RL, so they have to learn how best to take care of their customers here. I think it's wonderful that so many business owners are helping people get through these tough times with their generosity. :)

Why arn't pets sold as copy / no transfer ?
08-04-2007 03:29
It seems far safer.
When I looked around for pets a while back, most were no copy / transfer.

If they bouught a no copy item, and lost it due to a LL bug, it is not the vendors responsibility to replace it.
How about if a no copy item is lost the seller looses the L$ paid for purchasing it? Does that sound fair to you?

It's easy to go "not my fault", but meanwhile you're still happily taking people's money for things you know they might end up loosing. If you're unwilling to replace legitimate purchases, then you shouldn't still be selling those items while knowing about the current problems people are having.

you are all so sweet to be so sensitive about a digital dog. but let's not get silly. it's only $500L so if i can't find it, or get it back somehow, i'll just buy another. it's not like my REAL dog disappeared. why then, i'd be crying a river and pleading for help and a search party.
People will have an attachment to some things whether it's virtual or real, costly or free :).

The most emotional Live Help calls I can recall was someone who lost her pet panda, which I found in the 0,0,0 corner of the sim she had tried to rez it on. She was incredibly happy when she got it back and 10-30 minutes later she sent a snapshot of her and the panda :).

A sad one was someone who was terribly upset because her prim baby vanished from her inventory. It was more counselling in that case than trying to recover it, since it got eaten by a sim-rollback crash.

In dozens of missing inventory cases, the thing people usually cared the most about loosing was their snapshots/pictures which don't really have any value at all.

Where do YOU place blame, then? The creator has limited tools for dealing with LL bugs. They're working within the framework provided by LL.

Its LL's business in all senses of the word to keep the infrastructure in shape - something they don't do all that well.

I've sold copy/no-trans items since the start becasue of the tendancy for object to simply vanish. This has casued an unending stream of complaints from folks who want to buy items to give as gifts. On this matter I really can not win with everyone.

LL was going to give us a new permissions system a couple of years ago that would have solved this nicely. However, it along with Havock 2 and other really keen improvements to SL it never manifested.

I think we can lay blame squarely at LL's feet. But we can't relieve ourselves of personal responsibility. We all know how buggy this platform is, and the risk we take with every purchace.

lost pixel dog

I lost mine when I rezed him a month ago or so, then got a note from him saying he was lost. I used the script menue given in the info note which came with him, to call him back. "heel" was the command used, in a few seconds he was at my pixelated feet, safe and sound, making my wee sad heart fill back up with joy ;).

Very Best Wishes with your pixel pup too!

It's LL fault, but that doesn't clear the seller of all responsability. The opposite effect of this bug would be if people were able to occasionally buy items for free. Would you keep your store open and just sit on your hands going "it's LL's fault, not my problem"?

Loosing something after purchase, or in "failed to rez" only affects a minority of all transactions and all rez attempts. Some sellers probably never encounter it, and for others it's a significant portion of their sales, but it's not like replacing anything is going to cost you anything or put you out of business. You did get paid for the copy, it's the customer that looses out.

When I ask if I can get a NC/T copy of a C/NT item and the seller tells me it's all up to me if it goes missing, then I can't come back and ask to have it replaced if it were to dissapear, but I've never seen a store that has a "Don't buy this unless you agree that it won't be replaced if it goes *poof*" pop-up before purchase.

Noone has to replace anything, and noone should expect to have something replaced, but just saying that you won't replace because your customers must be out to scam you if they ask for it (I know you didn't say that) is going a bit too far.

People DO scam for free items. The creator has to walk a fine line between protecting themselves and good customer service.

I don't think it's a reasonable expectation that all vendors should replace items LL's fuzzy framework has destroyed. You got what you paid for and there the vendor's responsibility ends.

It's just stupid business for a vendor to play it that way.

LOLOLOL

i didn't get the dog back after the rolling restart and viewer upgrade. tried all the comands. he doesn't exist any longer. :(

i never heard from the vendor.... so, guess i'm going shopping elsewhere. he didn't even bother to reply with an 'i'm sorry', 'NO' or 'bite me' .... nothing. i spent a lot of money at his place, and will always be in the market for pets and animal avatars. so, they are losing a good customer if i dont' hear from them in a week or so.

Try and find an open enrollment group the seller is in to check for their "Last Online" date. It's possible he/she hasn't logged on since you contacted.

Additionally you could drop a notecard on him/her as well, in case IMs capped.

i didn't get upset last week when LL killed my AO script, i didn't throw a tantrum when i lost about 1500L worth of anim's i was dragging from the old ruined AO to my inventory to put in a new one, but, then LL ate my Bulldozer, and that set me over the edge why i dunno, but it did. i love my bulldozer, i use it for a lot of pictures. Then, to get the new viewer interface where once again LL in the wisdom "fixed" something that was not broken rewally put me over the edge! so, now i have a much less user friendly interface being brought in on teh heels of a week where i lost about 2500-3000L worth of items makes me wonder why i bother any more. i have been here for almost 3 years and i have been pretty much a cheerleader of SL but i have been feeling nmore and more that LL has lost faith with me. Why do i have teh feeling that if i was with Toyota or GM and lost my items they would be bending over backewards to replace them for me, and i cannot even get a linden to come clear the litter from my sim that is makeing so much noise i cannot even hear my streamed music.

well if anybody out there knows where i can replace my D9 cat bulldozer, cuz i honestly don't remember where i got it and i do not believe in asking teh seller to replace things that LL is responsible for.
Oh and BTW the anims were lost about 45 seconds AFTER the all clear message was sent out on sat night

If it's something you keep in inventory and rez when needed, and you recently (since the last snapshot) logged on to the beta grid, you might find it in your inventory there to find out the seller's name and their store should be in their picks.

http://secondlife.com/community/preview.php for the beta grid download.

If you haven't used it since July 17th there's probably not much chance it'll be in your inventory over there though :(. The first time you connect to the beta grid after a new snapshot, it pulls a copy of your entire inventory onto the beta grid.

So if you haven't used it recently, it might just pull your inventory with your Bulldozer missing :(.
