I didn't heed your warnings. I rezzed a non-copyable item, and it disappeared from my inventory. :(

It was a $500 pet, and can be replaced. But... my question is, has anyone had luck in retreiving a lost object since SL has gone into permanent glitch mode, or am i SOL?

Unless you've exhausted all of the various (and mostly anecdotal) glitch-recovery methods available to you, you're definitely SoL.

i did IM, and haven't heard back yet. i bought it months ago, so it probably won't show in his transactions history now. i did also buy 3 avatars, which i still have, so hopefully i will be believed.

it's my hope that when LL fixes the current issues, and restarts my sim, it will reappear.

until then, i have no security dog to protect my land from griefers. :p

I have never managed to recover anything that was actually lost. But you might check up in the sky above your parcel too. I have a neighbor that had a patrolling doberman that wanderd her property and it got lost. I found it sometime later about 400 meters above her parcel. Unfortunatelly she is no longer around and the poor dog has been up there barking night and day for 6 months or more. I had to move my work platform to get away from the racket.

To the above person, will the dog mute? Maybe the Linden$ will come catch it? & Biner .. is it a VKC dog? Mine is & if I lose him they have a dog park with a locator in, if so that'd be worth a try

I heard of one guy recovering his 1400 prim theatre but he had to get a sim rollback. The crab I lost is long gone...:(

I'm sorry to hear you lost your dog. The same happened with a kitten that I had , that was given to me by my fiance. The only way to recover it was to buy a new one. Just make sure you don't purge any of your items in your trash before going through it.

Sorry for getting off topic, but what does SOL stand for? Personally, I know it as "Shadows of Luclin", an expansion for Everquest. Aleister, really. Everyone knows it means Shit Out of Luck, unless VERY specifically defined otherwise.

Sorry to hear it, but whatever your issue, it sounds like you are SOL.

Did the dog have a license? Perhaps he's in the Pound. Or....shudders..behind the Korean restaurant.

Persephone, It is inapproptiate for you to be making such statements regarding products and vendors that you do not represent. I have had people try to scam me, refering to posts such as yours, when there is no record that they ever bought anything from me. If they bouught a no copy item, and lost it due to a LL bug, it is not the vendors responsibility to replace it.

Smart business people keep their own records, and do not rely on transaction history. I personally email myself the name, object, and how much they paid to my email account.

Hrm.

Do you have a piccy of the dog?

Perhaps put signs up.

On occasion, I've noticed a number of stray dogs from the Caledon dog park running wild in the back streets of Port Caledon.

I think what happens is the new owner picks them up, but being unfamiliar with their new duties the dogs run off, hide, and do whatever digital dogs do.

The back streets behind the wharf are extensive, and the owner can't find them. I'm just glad I haven't seen any hit by the Trolley, though, I suppose that the Trolley goes slowly enough that the dogs don't have any issue, only blithely unaware avatars.

We actually do have an official Dog Catcher with estate powers, who generally returns the animals to their owners (we do *not* put them down).

Good luck, and I hope you find your pet.

Sorry 'bout the pooch. :(

[Contemplates scripting a dog whistle for such occasions.]

Today I think I noticed a new and improved (really) version of the Failure to Rez problem: before, my No Copy items just vanished into the aether when that problem arose; today they just stay in Inventory. (Maybe just luck?)

ArchTx, what an awful thing to say to me. :(

Over the last week, I have personally replaced over fifty pianos for customers that have lost them due to the failure to rez issue. Although each replacement was time consuming and took me away from other things, making sure my customers are happy is far more important to me than catching the one or two people trying to scam a free piano out of me.

Some of the messages I get from customers that have lost an item are truly heartrending. When I hear "omg, my piano, i cherish it so much, and now it's gone ... i don't know what to do ... i am so sad" I assure you that the first thing that comes to my mind is not "scam." My heart goes out to people that have lost items due to the nasty grid problems of the last week. And while I don't feel it is my responsibility to help, it is certainly within my power to help. It costs me little. In fact the benefits are many and sometimes amazing.

I learned a long time ago, in RL and in SL, that when a customer is unhappy about something that I can easily fix - even if the problem is not my fault - that I have a rare and unique chance to turn that around and create a very happy and very loyal customer - sometimes even a friend - that will share their positive experience with others. There is nothing more satisfying to me as a person, and as a business person, than to help my customers though a difficult patch in a way that builds a lifelong positive connection.

I do not know why you are being scammed by so many people that have never even bought a product from you. I run a very successful business in Second Life and I do not believe that I have ever been scammed by anybody. Perhaps I am just naive. Or, perhaps I have decided, somewhere deep inside, that it is far better for me to just assume the basic goodness of people and be kind and generous when I can.

I hope things improve for your business and that you will find way to be helpful without being taken advantage of.

you are all so sweet to be so sensitive about a digital dog. but let's not get silly. it's only $500L so if i can't find it, or get it back somehow, i'll just buy another. it's not like my REAL dog disappeared. why then, i'd be crying a river and pleading for help and a search party.

about the Korean restaurant remark... i've seen the RL pics of wut goes on, and that really made me twinge and cringe. :( really horrible stuff.

My post was not intended to hurt your feelings, I was just stating the facts. You sound like a very generous and kind person. Unfortunatly if you have had to replace over 50 pianos then you probably were scamed on many of those transactions. I have not found the referenced bug to be anywhere near that common.

That is very true, however, I have yet to have a vendor refuse to replace a lost item when I explained the circumstances. In fact, I'd guess half of them included a gift of some kind for my troubles even though I never considered it to be their problem to begin with.

Because it's not their responsibility I never have a presumption that I will get a replacement, I'm just happy that I've found most shop owners in SL to run a good operation with respect for their customers.
