i have 1536 in one sim. i was thinking about buying in the same sim so i can bump my prim allowance up.

IF i buy elsewhere, can i use those prims in my currrent land? if not, and i think the answer is NO..... why would someone buy in different sims? different continents even? for variety?

You have to buy in the same sim to take advantage of the prims. The prim limit depends on the total area you own in a sim.
If you use prim count from one parcel to build in another, be careful if selling the 'empty-ish' parcel or deeding it to a group. Prims will suddenly disappear from your big build if the adjusted prim count on your remaining land has been exceeded. :)

Beware of making a build that crosses a sim boundary. Very strange things can happen when when walking across the boundary.

(snip)
I've got 512+4096, plus permission to use a 1024 beside it. Three of those 1024 plots were bought at L$8.5 / metre!! I'd still be at 1024 tier if the land price had been significantly higher. I'd soon expand to 512+8192 if land were inexpensive..

Great post Sling..I was wondering if people won't end up with more land as it gets cheaper and higher tiers. After all, the tier money goes to LL not the land dealer.

Some people may let go of their old holdings that aren't large enough to get land in the new continent with more care how they choose this time now that they are experienced. I was a lot more careful the second time around and really looked at how the land would be protected against ads, ugly builds, etc. And made sure I got parcels next to each other. I tried to do that in the 2nd continent by buying land as it became available but people became aware of that and jacked up their prices and I still ended up with a patch work quilt of parcels.
