The frontier just keeps opening up! The continent of Corsica is coming!
And the land gets nicer and nicer (if you like waterfront).
Sigh, I bought at the height of the curve...
But tempted to buy another sim of my very own.
Anyone else who figures the only way to protect the view is to buy it..and might be tempted to get a sim for themselves?
Lower tier and no island transfer hassle if it doesn't work out. Does this mean that we will all be large land owners now as the prices drop?

I plan on aquiring an entire mainland sim through slowly buying parts as my SL income grows. It's slowly working so far...although the ad farmers will need some "tuning up".

From: 3Ring Binder my tier is due July 9. let's say i buy more land today, does my tier go up TODAY to $15, or one month from today? I'm not 100% sure but I'd assume that you'd slip into a higher tier for the remainder of the month (3 days). You'd probably be best off waiting until you're actually billed as well. Your billing date may be the 9th but it doesn't always process on time and can be delayed.

From: Tegg Bode Not until tier drops for me. Don't care if a sim costs $1, $300US per month to play? No thanks Mainland sims (which is what you see on the auction block) are only $200 per month. Not that $200 isn't a lot of money too, but it's reachable for more people. From: 3Ring Binder question about tier.... my tier is due July 9. let's say i buy more land today, does my tier go up TODAY to $15, or one month from today? or wut? how does that work? should i wait until after my next tier? Tier is based on the most land you owned during the month. This means if you buy land just before your tier is due, you will pay the higher tier amount just as if you had owned it the entire month. So if you can, and that extra few dollars for this one month matters to you, wait until after your tier is billed.

oh, and wut's the going rate for 1024 on mainland? in YOUR opinions?

US$200-300 is a lot of freaking money. I don't care how much more I make per month, I can't justify that kind of cost. Maybe if I made ten thousand dollars a month from SL, I would begin to start thinking about maybe someday considering it.
Seriously, if before knowing about SL I was asked how much virtual land I could expect to own in an MMO for a US$300/mo charge, I would have said a thousand square miles.

Between 10500 and 15500 depending on the area seems to be the going rate once it's been purchased and resold a couple of times, which is the stage most of mainland is at. The more full an area gets the more expensive it becomes obviously but I wouldn't pay any more than 15,500 for 1024 because there is plenty available for less than that.

From: Dnali Anabuki Anyone else who figures the only way to protect the view is to buy it..and might be tempted to get a sim for themselves? Why not gather a group of people with common interests (residential sim, no commerce, no ad farms, no tall & ugly buildings blocking the view etc.). Then find someone within the group with enough money to pay for a sim, who can then divide the land and sell parcels to the group members in order to earn his money back. Lots of people dream about an own plot of land in a residential sim with some building regulations, I think.

oh, and wut's the going rate for 1024 on mainland? in YOUR opinions? I didnt own land for over 6 months and decided to buy a big plot for a new mall. Well, needless to say, I forgot about the "tier bill date" and just ASSumed that it reset. Nope. I had to pay full tier for a whopping 6 days! lol. for a 1024 plot, it depends on what you want. You have water canals, lakes, flat, mountainess, square, etc. You can buy now for right around 10 for some nicer plots for about 12 per sqm. Some can range as high as 20-26 and its not necessary to spend this. If its for basic building and a home in a quiet neighborhood, you might want to consider a unique space so you can sell it later without a loss. Rectangle and flat green ones are a dime a dozen IMO. Good Luck!

From: Xplorer Cannoli Who is made to live on the edge of the sim to look at the uglies in the sim next door? lol When I lived on the mainland, I surrounded my sim with 30 m high walls showing a wood scenery. The texture was constructed from screenshots of the trees in my sim, and I placed a row of trees close to the walls for an almost perfect optical illusion. Blocked out most of the uglies. The outer side of the wall was transparent, so people in the ugly neighbour sims could see how a decent sim should look like.

From: 3Ring Binder oh, and wut's the going rate for 1024 on mainland? in YOUR opinions? I see a lot of 'possible' mainland in the 10L$/m to 12$/m range. (10,300L$ to 12,300L$ for a 1024) Build in the air to escape an eyesore ground level if needs be. A big area in the air can be really kewl. I see large plots in decent inland sims sitting unsold for the past month at 12.5L$/m In the past few days I've seen large plots beside Linden water at 12.5L$/m And then by contrast, I see 512s on offer for 15,000! -- 30L$ per metre Right beside those are 512s for 8,000 -- 15L$ per metre -- and those were not in particularly attractive areas. I think that the higher prices are just the effect of inertia. People who bought at the peak either genuinely don't know what's going on or they are in denial. Plus barons sitting on unsold seems want to talk prices up. Nowadays when I fly about, I judge the price against 10 times the square area, and see how the area slots into tier calculations and group discounts. If the price is very much higher, the land would have to be really special - and normally it's not. I look at the yellow maps of SL. I also come across some interesting large plots that don't show yellow because they have been set for sale at a huge price to a named individual - and they've been set the same for over a month! I wonder how long the barons can continue to pay tier on unsold sims. I wonder if they can swallow a whole new continent and still keep prices artificially high. The only thing that could justify continuing current prices would be ubiquitous permanently-protected infrastructure -- continent-wide waterways and roadways (maybe even railways) as has been mentioned above. That's a lot of work for someone and I suspect that LL still don't want to make the investment. I've got 512+4096, plus permission to use a 1024 beside it. Three of those 1024 plots were bought at L$8.5 / metre!! I'd still be at 1024 tier if the land price had been significantly higher. I'd soon expand to 512+8192 if land were inexpensive. Right now, I wouldn't be inclined to pay much over L$10 per metre, even for 'decent' land. I expect prices to fall below that. In the meantime, I have enough land to be getting on with.

Yea and how it works is this way... You watch the land and you offer to buy it and they do not respond. One day you log on and see a whole bunch of spinning signs because they just threw it for sale under market value. Now your nauseous standing on your property looking at the motion of all the prims on the land next door. lol

It seems strange to me that as the more full a region gets the higher the prices get - though I can understand why. As someone who likes the wide open spaces, buying land in a congested area is plain crazy and even more insane is the idea of paying 'over the odds' for it. In some places SL would have to pay me to take it off their hands.
