The steadfast belief that the Lag-and-Bug-a-Thon will someday end is frequently practiced in SL

"Religion is the opiate of the masses." - Karl Marx Which might explain how you'd have to be on drugs to worship a Linden?

From: Stone Stringfellow Anyway, if you bring religion to SL you will also bring wars, and surely nobody (or almost nobody) wants that. I gotta agree with you there Stone. I've made this comment in the past and have got into deep water with it. SL is one gigantic barrier-breaker. The last thing we want to do is invent new ones. Of course, if it's merely a 'club' for like-minded people to socialise across the wide expanse of the WWW then that's also what it is here for. edit: LOL hadn't realised this had gone to a further page. Not the first time I've done this either! More excellent posts. frisbeeism? ROFL

OK, Lindens are trees (genus Tilia) and Druids worship or at least revere trees, don't they? So Linden worship wouldn't count as a new religion anyway. There's nothing new under the sun, forced or not.

From: CoyoteAngel Dimsum There's a very active Unitarian Universalist fellowship in SL, in Modesta. Services are held Thursday evenings (SL time).
More information is available via in-world search under 'unitarian'. Ya beat me to it, CA!

Well religion isn't going to enter SL, heaven &hell are just behind the times caught up in all that pre 20th century stuff still. "Good Omens" by Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman explains it all. The Demon Crowley just could not get the hierachy to see that taking the cumulative anger, frustration and evil acts caused by taking the whole London phone network down for a few hours on Friday was better for the cause of evil than wasting 20 years planning & scheming to corrupt a single Bishop. Think of what Crowley ccould do with SL

Not sure if it's a religion, more of a cult...but I believe RUTHism has the largest following in sl. People really worship her and are constantly emulating her appearance in the hope of one day ascending and meeting the mother of all Avs...RUTH.
A close contender to RUTHism is the church of 'LOASUTA' better known as Lots Of Attachments Stuck Up Their Arse. These people are very serious about their faith and sometimes walk around in public for hours at a time with a wide variety of holy artifacts emminating from their buttocks.
