https://blogs.secondlife.com/community/features/blog/2009/06/01/adult-content-changes-in-summary Whatcha think of this new name and the clarification of changes for the Adult Only continent? As for Zindra .. the only references I could find after a cursory look was some obscure Star Wars reference: Zindra was a female Rodian. She worked for Hyperspeed Express as an office manager at the Bilbringi Shipyards, and was very helpful with requests. When the Jedi trainee Dal Konur went rogue and was being pursued on the request of Master Luke Skywalker, Zindra supplied Konur's pursuers with information regarding his movements on the planet. and A town in Pakistan: Fourteen kms from Ziarat is the picturesque Zindra. Zindra derives its name from the Pushto word "Zindra" meaning "four* grinding mills". * could be a typo, as I saw another site refer to it as meaning a flour grinding mill.

It's an anagram of Drainz.
They probably mistyped Sindra

Let's get this straight.. The adult, lewdfest debauched smutland that is the new continent, shares a name with a town in one of the Islamic nations of the world? Genius, sheer genius.

Personally I find nothing offensive about naming it after a town in Pakistan if that was their intent. The etymology is kinda interesting after all, since it references "grinding" things, which might be prevalent on the new continent after all

Genius, sheer genius. It sounds like a tiny tiny town in a quiet corner of the world. Perhaps the rl inhabitants of Zindra have no internet, and LL thought this'd fly under the radar? It's the reversal of when I googled my car name, and discovered it was really an exotic dancer in Turkey.

From: Joshooah Lovenkraft Personally I find nothing offensive about naming it after a town in Pakistan if that was their intent. It shows a certain lack of cultural sensitivity if it was deliberate, don't you think? A bit like forming a secular democracy that welcomes diverse sexualities, and calling it Tehran. From: someone The etymology is kinda interesting after all, since it references "grinding" things, which might be prevalent on the new continent after all Sadly I'm imagining either a deserted wasteland of derelict buildings, or a total lagfest where the only grinding is hard drives failing under the load of the swap file, all depending on just how this is implented. I may stick to remaining at my home for any more pleasurable variations of the term

Zindra is two syllables; the other continents are mostly three syllables except the 5-syllable Heterocera (and maybe an extra half-syllable for the unpronounceable "Jeogeot" . [EDIT: Never mind that. Gaeta is two syllables, too, at least as best I can pronounce it.] It will be interesting to learn some of the sim names to see if a theme emerges. It'll also be interesting to discover which obscure language has a word that sounds just like "Zindra" and means "blessed endowment".

Shouldn't there have been an "X" in the name? Xenon, Xanadu, Xaviera. something like that? Not that I guess it matters when push comes to shove -- I don't walk around talking about North America in my day to day conversations.

From: Sindy Tsure /me googles zindra and doesn't see any mention of Pakistan in the first couple pages. Me either, but googling Zindra Pakistan gets the results http://www.tourism.gov.pk/what_to_do_ziarat.htmIt might not seem like a big deal, but pissing off a few thousand who get their kicks online is one thing, sharing the name of a town in an Islamic state as the place where those kicks are now to be had is entirely another. It's probably just one of those poor decisions and not deliberate in the slightest, but it doesn't hurt to fully check something as important as the smut continent name out before going ahead with it.

Sindre, pronounced very much like Zindra, is a dwarf from Nordic mythology who, with his brother Brokk, forged several artifacts, most notably Thor's hammer, MjĂžlner. ...though I highly doubt that's an inspiration. Just thought I'd mention it

From: Shambolic Walkenberg forming a secular democracy that welcomes diverse sexualities, and calling it Tehran. That is a great idea! I nominate this for best idea of 2009.

Can't Zindra be a triple breasted green-skinned warrior princess from Mars?

Whatever the name, it was gonna be criticised.
Meh.
Regardless, just ask which way Pervistan is, and people will point ya the right way...

OK, how about Concupidia?
Fervidia?
Fervupid?
Made up words, based on rather appropriate terms for the new land, and highly unlikely to offend any existing towns or people.
These were just off the top of my head in a few seconds, surely LL could do better given time and collective brain power?
You might not get a 100% consensus on a name, but it does seem crass to choose the one they have.

From: Couldbe Yue and just exactly when have LL showed any kind of sensitivity to anyone or anything?? well, apart from their sensitivity to their greed of course.. I'm a dyed in the wool pessimist, but I still have the odd insane moment of optimism. It's a failing of mine. I was daft enough to think they might, just might, check any existing word they felt like using before going ahead with it. Or even better, making one up to avoid that scenario entirely. But you're right, the only thing they seemed to be concerned over are mythical profits that their actual machinations seem to be never endingly preventing them from ever attaining.

. You win the thread. Pornsylvania made me laugh too though. Since I'm not into anything that even LL would consider adult, I admit I haven't been following this topic too closely. Can someone remind me where the name Ursula came from? I knew it was an unofficial name, but I thought there was some reason to think it would become official.
