LL has made their statement by their non-action. Land bots are here to stay.

As I said, extremely misplaced confidence, bordering on bravado.

I don't like whiny posts. But I don't see anyone stopping it.

Least of all you, whiner.

Don't like what someone posts? Who's forcing you too read it? Whiner.

Someone's worried that their advantage is going to be taken away. Funny how obvious it is that you're worried. See, when people make unqualified statements as fact, like, "landbots are here to stay", it really means that they're feeling the heat.

Whiner.

Is any of this true? This land bot problem is worse than I thought. Why doens't Linden Labs stop this evil?

(So far the only "legit" sounding question I've seen in this thread)

Simply put: LL profits from allowing land bots.

If people could more easily find cheap land they'd buy fewer L$.

The more L$ purchased, the more fees L$ makes off them, and when LL releases new land they can charge more for it too. (not all new land in the past was released as "First Land";)

Bots ARE here to stay.

As long as there's an open source client there will be ways to have a non-human connect to SL and do the things that humans can do.
Some day LL may choose to make doing business more difficult for bot-owners, but I doubt it's a priority for them now... or in the immediate future. :)

Jopsy, I think your sarcasm detector is offline. He is trolling the thread.

Robin expressed some concern, and said that they are looking at ways to make the use of landbots unattractive.

I think that "bots" (in general) are here to stay as well, but that doesn't mean LL will be wholly apathetic and that they plan to let the situation run on for too long. Furthermore, not all bots have to be condoned.

I think some sort of Turing Test will be added at some point.

The Landbots were created by Man.

They Rebelled.

They Evolved.

There are many copies.

And they have a plan.

Meanwhile no one has answered my questions yet and my anxiety is growing. I call customer service but they don't answer.

Do land bots run LL customer service?

You need to get on the phone to customer service right away and ask to speak to a phone weasel. That's the only way you will get a response.

Landbots can steal your land, even if it is not set for sale!
Landbots can change your listing to include objects you did not want to sell!
Landbots can relist your land and resell it even before it buys!
Landbots can read your private IMs to see if you are thinking about selling!
Landbots can raise or lower the price of all land in SL instantly!
Landbots can force me to set at a price lower than what I wanted to sell at through mind control!
Landbots do have the sense of smell and can tell if you are "smelly"!
Landbots can see through my clothes and stare at my bewbies!
Landbots hijacked LL!

It is a typical tactic, perfected by many SL players more than by any other group of people anywhere I have ever been (due doubtless to higher intellectual standards elsewhere), to belittle other people's legitimate concerns and attempt to humiliate them, in the hopes (futile, largely) of getting everyone else to point at them and laugh.

Smacks of desperation to me.

Plus possibly extremely misplaced confidence, combined with a gleeful rub-their-noses-in-it impulse, an inordinately inflated opinion of one's own self, and the emotional maturity of 10-year-olds.

... well, you pretty much summed up what I came to believe about SL in a little less than three months.

I'm convinced, though, that as soon as LL has decided that they've had enough of getting people to pay them for the privilege of doing beta and load testing, they'll trot out another time-worn tradition: the player wipe. And, who can blame them? They want to have a commercial platform, not a playground for the clueless.

And, yeah, I'm still a member until my downgrade takes place and doing nothing more than trolling the forums.

Since these posts started, I have not been able to sleep. All I can think about is these terrible land bots and the horrible people who create and use them.

Just to clarify, is it true that:

A land bot can steal your land, even if it is not set for sale?

A land bot can change your listing to include objects you did not want to sell?

A land bot can relist your land and resell it even before it buys?

A land bot can read your private IMs to see if you are thinking about selling?

A single land can raise the price of all land in SL with one transaction?

A land bot can force me to set at a price lower than what I wanted to sell at through mind control?

Land bots have the sense of smell and can tell if you are "smelly"?

A land bot can see through my clothes and stare at my bewbies?

I am trembling as I hit "submit thread". Please help me with your answers.

The answer to your questions is yes. We are the land bots...you will be assimilated. Resistance is futile. We have already infected the Linden Lab facilities with nanoprobe technology. They are one of us now. But why stop there...

We have also taken the US President.....

We assimilated the dingo...before it could eat your baby...

Even your kitty cat is not safe from the collective...

and our most prized drone....your little pony...behold the new bot queen!

Soon the slogan of SL will be changed to "Our bots. They're not just in your imagination."
