Once they close the forums we presumably won't be able to edit our signatures, but they will be viewable forever, at least I think they will, so if you ever wanted to promote a cause or make a great ad or just post some links to let your old friends find you or whatever, this would be the time to do it.

I'm sure what I would like my final signature to be would not last long in The Archives.

This has inspired me to add a signature. Nothing particular to promote, so I'll just quote my favorite Pete.

I am planning on changing my sig in a big way close to the end maybe - but not yet.

I'd added the first line of my sig for the Christmas season, but am sort of glad I didn't choose to remove it. (It's one of those simple ideas that have the power to surprise.)
As for the ads, I will probably replace them with photos of SL scenes that mean a lot to me, since stretching people's screens will no longer be an issue. (I was embarrassed, recently, to learn from a kind poster that my sig HAD been stretching people's screens...I hadn't known that!) _____________________

wrong.
1st off when LL said they were closing the xstreet forums they said they would archive them. 2nd I recognize the tombstone. 3rd the first thing LL did when they shuttered the xstreet forums was delete all sigs. 4th then LL just simply made the "archived" forums inaccessible. But enjoy yourselves while you can. The old SL is being washed away. What is that flushing sound? I said washe.... |

3rd the first thing LL did when they shuttered the xstreet forums was delete all sigs. Wow, that seems really cynical. I suppose some people had profanity or something. But I'll bet they were a tiny minority... _____________________

All comes to an end. And I doubt I will be often in the blogorums, unless they dramatically change the whole look and feel. It's pretty ridiculous that some half baked blog software (or whatever this thing is) which does not even have a fully working search function is seen as better than a stable, proven, long running forum software like vBulletin that has matured over many years. But that decision was made from Teh Labratory a long time ago and as we know they just push forward with whatever decision they had made. One more nail in the "communicate with residents" coffin, oh wait, the new term was "managed conversation".
Farewell forums and all people here who helped so many over so many years. It will be a huge loss for all. But one door closes and another one opens elsewhere. See you on the other side ![]() Boy _____________________

Wow, that seems really cynical. I suppose some people had profanity or something. But I'll bet they were a tiny minority... Actually everyone had put in the tombstone pic. ![]() But that appeared to be causing issues. (Because some people began to get more "creative".) So everyone changed their avatar pics. ![]() And so LL also deleted all the avatar pics as well. And then LL simply made the "archived forums" inaccessible. That is the end of this history lesson. |

The default options are to hide signatures though. Ah, then maybe I wasn't annoying everyone (just those who had everything-to-show checked). Still, I was glad to find out about it. _____________________

Well, I can see both sides---but on balance, I think LL overreacted. Those images depict people's genuine sadness at losing the forums. They are not rude attacks on LL. That lesson does not bode well, does it? _____________________

I don't post much in the new forums anymore. Right after my position in the status page reached 1st place (booting Torley to 2nd place) I got a suspension warning for making the mistake of suggesting LL moderate their forum. An explicitly banned activity as it turns out.
Of course then answer man unk Bob got to 1st, Answer bot Ella is in 2nd, and soon Irene will be in third. Enjoy your new forums. Know that any infraction there can cause the loss of your access to Second Life permanently. Doesn't knowing that just make you want to start up a nonsense thread? Pick a new forum. SLU is good. I may close mine because I tire of the Chinese dos attacks. |

Final signature.........hmm let me think.
There once was a fellow McSweeny Who spilled some gin on his.............ummm no. There once was a fellow O'Doole Who found little red spots on his................I don't think so. There was a young man from Peru, who fell asleep in his canoe, while dreaming of..............Nope, not this one. There was a man from Nantucket........Better not go there. Oh well, I have a few days to come up with something. _____________________

I'll probably leave mine the way it is now. I figure they'll turn them off and no one will be reading anything I wrote here anyway.

Ann, I would RATHER they deleted it all, even if it meant losing resources like the script library. Instead, they've said they plan to make the archived forums PUBLICLY SEARCHABLE. What was once a "members only" area with some expectation of privacy will become searchable by Google. God save us all. _____________________

there is just too much good information to have it not archived..i think that would be tragic if they justflipped a switch and it be like it never existed..
