From: Incanus Merlin Umm.... you guys have read the sticky from Skye on How to Transfer Land.....? pretty much everything you need to know is laid out there
Inc Since I've begun SL, I've been paranoid about creating a group and deeding land to it. The negative replies in that sticky made me feel that I wasn't being paranoid. Is there a reason that you can't rent apartments and shops and keep all the land owned solely by yourself? Are the rental control systems (like Hippo) dependent on deeding to a group?

You can do it that way, but you shaft yourself out of the 10% bonus. All my land is group owned, and I get an extra 3276m2 because of it. It adds up! Once you get a handle on it, it's not bad and the benefits outweigh the pain.

Once you get a handle on it, it's not bad and the benefits outweigh the pain. Cristalle, Thanks for the reassurance. More questions (for Cristalle or anybody): I deeded a small parcel to my new group, and I see that now the prim usage is restricted to only what that parcel can support! (don't worry I created the alt and made him a member. I'm jealous of my alt because he's a lot hotter than my regular Avi, but that's another story). So if I want to rent rooms in a huge hotel that sits on one plot, and the rest of the sim is relatively "unspoiled," then it would never work unless I deed ALL the land in my sim to my group, right? And if I had set the many-prim hotel parcel to group first, would it have come crashing down since there aren't nearly enough prims on that parcel to support it? Do I always have to check "owner makes contribution with deed," or only up to a certain level? I don't even understand what this does or why it is necessary. Thanks to anyone who can help! -Avion

Thanks to anyone who can help! -Avion That is correct. The group is its own entity, as you are your own entity. It is an entirely different owner, although you as group owner have permissions to manipulate the land. As for making contribution with deed box: NO, you don't have to do this every time. In fact, it's probably harder. You can set your contribution in the Land and L tab, and then buy/deed to your heart's content. It will stop you when you don't have enough tier contributed. This is the easiest way. The contribution with deed thing is nice but sometimes seems flaky and operates counter-intuitively.

Cristalle, Playing around with it, it never allowed me not to set this, so I ended up clicking it for all of the parcels in that sim (half of my land owned). At the risk of making you become my private deed instructor, is there a 1-minute explanation as to what this donation is, and why it is needed? Did I mess something up by contributing all of the land into the group? I'm not finding the answer to this in search. I experimented, and was able to successfully place a small parcel into my group, and then carefully sell it back to myself. The bots were apparently circumvented. So my paranoia on this group ownership thing is waning. Thanks for all your help!

This may sound like a silly statement BUT having had experience with Group and ownership with partner - WATCH YOUR STEP. I had a heck of a time regaining control when I SL "divorced" my ex and it cost me dearly in Lindens. Get an agreement with partner (RL or SL) so YOU wont get burnt. Jig C (Many Lindens Later)
