The finest.

Plus it showcased Baywatch thespian Erika Eleniak's fine performance as a cake stripper and Gary Busey in drag.

Truly a movie that has it all.

to answer your question, they come from a Mormon woman who attained her BA in Utah, complete with predictable female subjugation fantasy that's supposed to seem romantic... and other Mormon themes.

the intended audience is teenagers if the writing style wasn't any clue, but has found a following among woman looking to recapture their misspent teen years (or those that never grew out of them), some of the bdsm crowd, as well as people looking to cash in on or take advantage of the same.

this little vid (which has VERY good editing) points out some other issues

Somehow, using Baywatch and thespian in the same sentence doesn't see right, but I agree. But Tommy Lee Jones won that movie hands down.

He so often does, even against more quality opposition.

Mmm, Tommy Lee Jones. He's right up there with Harrison Ford in my book.

As for "Twilight", I read the first book. I had no need to go further in the series, or see the movie.

It's OK, as a romance. As a vampire story, it...er, sucks.

Look, vampires are EVIL UNDEAD. They are confined to the darkness and are either slain, or horribly burned, by sunlight. They are, by definition, soulless serial killers; to prolong their own existence, they must murder over and over again.

They are very powerful, having greath strength, invisibility, and a mesmeric ability to attract their prey. They cannot be killed by normal weapons. As a counter to those advantages, they have several weaknesses. Sunlight, silver, garlic, a crucifix, or a wooden stake through the heart. They must rest in their native soil, which makes travel difficult. They sleep deeply, as if dead, during the day and are therefore vulnerable if found.

THAT is vampires. They do not "sparkle". They burn. They do not take the high moral ground and learn to live on animal blood. They murder.

You'd think that it would be impossible to make such an evil creature a sympathetic character, but at least one writer I know has managed it, without turning her vampires into either superheroes or heartthrobs. Read "Those Who Hunt the Night" and "Traveling With the Dead" by Barbara Hambly. Her Count Ysidro is a GREAT vampire!

To some, they are tortured souls as opposed to souless killers. They aren't murdering to continue their existence, they are fighting to survive, hunting and feeding off the weak, much like we do with animals. I've had some really great chats with Gabriele abount Vampires, we even laid out a whole RP scenario with her as as a sort of Dark Guardian Angel for my Lady Sleuth character.

There is an attraction to the Vampire lore, done properly it can be highly erotic, especially if you have some interest in BDSM and perilous situations. Like I mentioned before, The Hunger is one of the most erotic films I've seen. The problem with the current vampire trnds, strictly my opinion mind you, is that it just isn't any good. it seems cheap, and salacious rather than sophisticated a sexy.

I like the Sexy Vampire, and Gabriele does the role very well. The only problem with this variaton of the genre is that it's a slippery slope that leads to a sparkling Edward. Some say that a vampire does not need to kill, but only drink the blood of the living. And that's what leads to those oh-so-erotic biting scenes.

My problem with it is that one must give consent to become a vampire. In fact, one must have an ego which refuses to accept death, no matter the cost to others. This does not say "tortured soul" to me...the vampire chose his or her undead existence.

So my personal vampire mythos is of the hardline, oldschool variety. (But that doesn't mean I won't flirt with Gabby or feel the seductive pull of her enthralling charms. I'm not an idiot.)

all this serious talk of vampires and their intent makes me believe you all believe they are real. but they're not, so intent is really up to the interpreter, or writer, or believer. just sayin.

If you knew the big elaborate backstory she and I contrived for this RP. Maybe we will put it into action some day.

Better yet, write it up as another Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter clone, get an agent, and shop it around.

I bet you and Gabriele would make GREAT characters for a pulp series.

@Lindal, Brenda, You are very kind VV

Vampires can sense being invoked you know.
Be wary of our charms and remember, they are but a means to an end:

You don't want to end up in one of my bags now do you? ;) VV

PS. And yes, Edward is a disgrace to my kind, 'nough said.

I love pimping that link... it's good stuff

From: Ceka Cianci

that was funny, and pretty well done =)

personally I'm surprised PETA has used vampires in a campaign yet...
PETA advocate: why do you kill people? don't you realize the pain and suffering you're causing to a being that thinks and feels?
Hungry Vampire: they taste better, and it's not like there aren't enough to go around.
P-A: but don't you think it's ethically wrong?
H-V bites PA then after a moment looks up thoughtfully: and there's the fact that I can end an argument with a good meal...

ok... maybe not a good PETA ad....

personally I liked "Let the right one in" for recent vampire movies... but it helps if you don't mind subtitles or actually speak Swedish.

never known any literal vampires (of the pointy toothed lives on blood variety, even if I've had people accuse me of BEING one  ) but I could tell you loads about figurative ones

Well, maybe not the ones from Twilight unless you wanted to muddy the waters. True, they call themselves vegetarians since they do not feast on humans .... but they eat animals.
