What is secondland?

I noticed a group called second land selling land plots. They are charging around 15 bucks a month for an upgraded account. What that gets you is the basic 512 land, 300 lindens a week.

Is this offical or a scam?

it is legit. its an island estate. instead of paying tier to the mainland (linden) you pay it to an estate.

Even when first land was in existance, you did not get 512 meters of land for free. You had to pay $1L per meter (cheap, yeah ). There was no tier charge on land. And even if you opted to purchase other land (not listed as "first land" that was also 512 meters your tier was still free. But there is no "first land" anymore (gone forever). The tier on mainland is still free for the first 512 meters. That is for any land on a mainland sim. I think this group is just playing on words......"giving" you something you will get anyway. The 300 linden stipend is for becoming premium........and you must be premium to purchase mainland.

And this estate is going to pay you 300 lindens stipend? I think it's a scam.........15 bucks a month? 9.95 bucks for a premium account to Linden Labs.

peggy you have been here over a year. i am shocked you have never heard of secondland or getting a stipend from an estate.

No one but LL can upgrade your account.
A premium account costs less than that, garners you 300L a month stipend, and includes tier of 512m2 for the mainland. You'd still need to buy the land.

Non-premium accounts can rent on islands or rent on the mainland.
Non-premium accounts can also buy entire islands.

I've been here for a year and a half.............and no, I've never heard of second land estates. I would never pay someone 15 dollars a month when I can pay someone else for the same thing 10 dollars a month. Actually I don't pay LL even 10 dollars a month........$22.50 every three months is what I pay.

I would consider it a scam.......paying someone an inflated price for basically the same thing I have already. Might be "legal.........but it's still scamming the unknowing population.

I don't use that old adage "buyer beware" anymore............it's "buyer defend yourself". That's one of the biggest problems I have with SL and LL. It's "legal" for someone mislead others.........and most think it's just fine and dandy. "Just do your research.......if you don't then you deserve everything that happens to you." What a crock.

I think calling something "Second_____" is sharp practice as it leads new people into thinking it's a LL program. That might not have been how the people thought who started it, but it's the reality.

its not a scam mate. you can buy tier from an estate, own land there, get a stipend, and even get someone to maintain order on the island. island vs mainland is more of a 'boxers or briefs' issue any more.

i pay 15 bucks a month, that gives me my stipend and 1024m2 teir, your getting less bang for your buck

but i also live on the mainland, tween a camp hole and a pile of visual crap whereas an estate is totally zoned and controlled by the owners


would i go to an estate? probally not i rather like having total freedom on my land
if i want a 30x30 m dome painted neon pink i dont have to deal with a neighborhood board

also i dont like paying for stuff that i dont actually get, alot of estate owners charge you use and a purchase price, now lets say i get in with some crooks, i would fork over thousands of linden dollars to "purchase" the land, all they would have to do is kick me out and resell it to the next sucker, and that spooks me the most

so i wanted to research so i found '2nd land amelia island' in a land search. 'Come Join the 2nd Land Program on Amelia Island' it boasts. so i click tp and it drops me in an empty room. an empty room so small it is causing problems with my cam. i then realise the beacon is actually some ways off, so i exit the little room and am confronted by red banlines. i fly up to 100m and find the beacon and descend. a second later im being bounced up and down and told i am not on the access list.
i dont think they are the same people as 'secondland' though.

Hows does a people get away with using LLABS assets and charge others money memberships etc? I highly doubt LLABs allows this practice.......This doesnt make sence.........

Someone would get more for their money going through LL and why the bit about a stipend from the estate? How about just rent cheeper?

My renting days are well over a year ago, but then was 800L$ a week for 1024m. Concidering the USD to L$ rate at the time was 320-1, it wound up at being about the same price as a monthly membership due but with twice the land.

Even on the mainland, the majority of teh sim was owned by the landlord, so the area was very well maintained. Though I own now and prolly will never rent again, I left on good terms with Ravenglass Rentals and still recomend them to people looking to rent.

15USD a month for 512m of land and a 300L$ stipend (equal to 9.95USD from LL)? Wouldn't touch that myself, but if it works for you, go for it.

what planet are you guys on??? you can search estate land through the client! linden sells them the islands hey. you always pay tier, you can buy land, some of them include a stipend to be competitive. you guys need to relax.

sharp judgement considering you dont know the details. its possible the 512 is included in the deal. and its possible if he added another 512 and made a 1024 he would not go into a higher tier bracket. making the deal very sweet looking compared to mainland chaos. carrying on like these are scams really kicks a lot of mud at honest people. but if that makes you feel wise, so be it.

If you want to add things that increase the value, then yes, it can be worth it. However, as the data stands, no, it is not.

Also, bear in mind that USD payments outside of LL have no recourse as to what that money is given for. By purchasing a Premium Account and paying tier, you are using a known buisness (LL) to make your purchase. From any other source, I would be doubtful. Esspecially if simply another Resident wtihout any buisness licinsing.

As I said, I used to rent and was very happy doing so. However, unless the offer is MUCH differnt than what was stated in the orginional psot, then yes, I am wise to concider this a scam, or at least a very poor deal.

As to "mainland chaos" spoken so much on the forums, what you see is not the whole of SL. A good many places are very nice to live in. Just as many private estates are simply "chaos" themselves.

Learn to listen to what people say in full, not just bits and pieces and you may see that "wisdom" earned from experiance and look less the fool for it.

The mainland sim I live on is quit quiet............has been that way for over a year and a half. Oh, I've seen a few rotating for sale signs on occassion, had a few griefers drift by, and even have had a shower or particles drifting over in my living room from a nieghbor for a short while.....but over all it's really a nice place. No lag to speak of, no ugly builds (but that's in the eye of the beholder anyway). From my perspective.......mainland is really quite nice.
