To Quote a Daniel Linden:

Though there may be variation from country to country, in the United States verification will require a name, address, date of birth, and the last four digits of a Social Security Number. Internationally, most Residents will be asked for a name, address, date of birth, and a passport or national ID number. In some cases, additional details — like a county name in Ireland or a middle initial in Mexico– will be requested.

----------------

Dont understand me wrong. I fully agree with the Verification. But i will not give out my Passport Details. If this will actually happen that Passport Details are requested and i will loose my club and all the Effort and money i put in i will check with my lawyer and file a lawsuit to get all the Money back i spent up till now in that project.

Mark my words lindens this will be a huge fiasko for you guys if you put this in place. You will loose quite alot of Players from other countries. As one of the posters here already mentioned. In some countries its illegal to give out your Passport Details. So you basicly force Players to break the law to continue playing.

More and more questions less and less answers

In the latest tidbit of blogposting by the Gods. It is mentioned that land will be broken into one of 3 classifications:
PG - Mature - Adult

There is absolutely no definition of what is the difference other than
From: someone
‘Adult Content’ is that which is overtly, graphically, or explicitly sexual in nature or intensely violent

If you don't validate then you can not enter Adult lands but mature and PG are open to all. To me Adult by their definition is showin porn films/pictures that are VERY VERY EXTREME if US TV and public laws are to go by.

This is not thought out at all. Everytime the gods make a statement in their blog the comments get filled up to the set limit by the lindens in less and less time. The latest posting which only happened because of protests and pressure by customers was open for a record one hour and 6 minutes. Quite a few people wrote to be told that sorry comments are turned off and their words went off into ether.

More and more questions less and less answers.

I had my social security number stolen and it was not fun. There is no way that someone should need to give this out.

As I also said in another thread, city officials here (Netherlands) warned me about giving my passport and/or drivers licence number to an unknown company over some https connection. I'll also ask one of my company lawyers in the US to look into this.

Did LL ever consider these types of issues?? The fact that many people are not willing to take a huge risk in giving out their information just to say they are over 18? . This is going to cripple the economy. I can't believe LL doesn't see this happening.

Here we go again

Here is my two cents on this.

When I first joined SL almost a year ago, AGE VERIFICATION was required by LL by providing credit information. So I entered it and have been an active member there for a year. Then there was the whole database compromise issue which caused them to VERIFY us again that we were who they said we were. And now their GOING TO DO IT AGAIN?

COME ON...

When is enough going to be enough? I personally am getting sick of being asked for this information every 3 months by LL. I rent a parcel of land at $30usd per month and also rent a second parcel at almost $35usd per month. I contribute a large volume of US Currency into this company and if you are saying if I DONT PAY more to verify to you what I have ALREADY verified 3 times already your going to restrict me from the parcels I RUN?

I'm not about to give out anymore private information to other people on the net who I cant walk up to and make sure they are a legit business. I'm quickly losing faith in LL to secure my information. I have a substantial investment in the parcels I run, Well over $600usd worth.

If you "Linden Labs" Have a problem and want to know who I am. COME VISIT me. You know my address and everything else I had to give to you over the three times I verified myself. Come and look me in the eyes.

When will parents take responsibility?
05-08-2007 02:31
From: Colette Meiji
But what does that have to do with LL being responsible becuase they let underage people onto the grid?

The poster who brought this story up,
said that the Story claimed LL wasnt doing enough to keep underage people out.

I get so tired of seeing this sort of post on just about everything. It's time PARENTS step up and be more mindful of what their kids are doing online. And if they don't they too should face criminal charges of endangering their own kids or at the very lest not being able to control them.

These new computers are now starting to come out with a Bio-access feature, where you can scan a thumb print for Identity purposes. It would be my suggestion to protect everyone that there should be a company that has the ability to sign up a secured account where you can place this print on file and if you have a new system that has such a pad on it, just stick your thumb on the pad to log in. Lets see some underage person steal their parents thumb.

They could put silly putty on their parents thumbs while they are sleeping, then put the putty on their own thumb and press it to the screen! zOMG! lol
