An anti-griefer group I know that is pretty reliable is being warned - of a possible quite serious griefer attack sometime today by the familiar Patriotic Nigras - via the following via notecard, which recounts an IM conversation. My question is, with only a basic account, what is the best way to let the Lindens in on the secret? Going to "Support Ticket" only has the really helpful advice for such as me to go to Help Island and talk to someone. Thanks, guys.

Hmm, actually ... just a few days ago there was someone doing something like that in the PSG public sandbox near my parcel in Columbia. They had some type of replicating bullets (actually shaped like some sort of zombie-like spongebob squarepants) that cascaded into our parcels by the hundreds and hundreds, replicating and completely filling my house, just slowly growing and replicating.

And my landlord reported getting "IM-bombed" with kazillions of IMs later.

I was there the entire time it was happening. I filed an AR report but of course the account was only 1-2 days old or something, so a throw-away account.

I should make an attachment with that fox story background music in it. :)

Oh, back to the subject.. early warning or disinformation. Does it matter? Ignore it.

I experienced the zombie sponge bob the other day while shopping. I tried to warn the shop owner but his profile said he was out of town. I submitted an AR report also, but like the earlier post the creators avi was brand new that day.

Those spongebob things are a few months old. I've seen them in all types of random places. That's nothing new.

I really don't think this issue was a grief-tard attack...and even if it was LL wouldn't admit to it. Anyone trying to do such a thing is after that sort of gratification anyway. Why give it to them?

In other news Nicole Richie's baby is reported to have gills...

Rumor of Grid attack spreading...
08-01-2007 14:30
Well, I can say that this "warning" is starting to be spread through the grid via IM, like a virus in itself. The leader of one of the groups I belong to said that they were going to turn off the ability to rez objects on our land because they received the following IM...

"PN is preparing a gide wide attack. The device they have will be placed in any sim they can build in. It will rez duplicates slowly. 15 seconds before it does it's real attack, veriuos PN targets will get mass spamed IM, then finaly the devices will start rezing pools closed stenciles (I'm assuming bouncing phyiscs prims). As such, I am setting the sim to no rez objects. Please protect your own properties and pass the message on."

Whether real or not, people with any sense will look to the forums first to see if they can find any verification of the attack.

All I can say in response is that I have heard that PN (Patriotic Nigras) is not a group organized enough to carry out such an attack. Therefore this is probably a hoax. It is far easier for a single griefer to create panic than for a group to organize and carry out an attack of this magnitude.

Come on, guys. Think for a second. ALL IMs and chat conversations are recorded and accessible by LL at any given time. This is half the battle when they investigate the ARs that they choose to investigate.

They also have access to all types of information on everyone that accesses SL.

True there's always a way around some of these things but not even the PN are dumb enough to announce via IM that they're gonna try to shut the grid down.

It's not like SL has never been that messed up before. I remember this same thing happening last year at about the same level of inconvenience to everyone. No one called it an attack then!

For those who don't know...

PN was a little quiet for a while, but they have their leader back. So expect more from them in the future. Don't brush them off or say that it's a lone griefer.
That's a good way to lose a sim.

Either way this is kind of a pointless debate. If anyone DID do this then LL wouldn't admit it. The best way to ward off attacks by people seeking gratification and acknowledgement is by not acknowledging them.

We'll never know the truth...and it's really not important enough for me to be curious about it.

I agree with the last part: I think it was around this time last year that the grid was being hit on a weekend basis by the griefers, because that was when most of the users were on. Oh, it wasn't an attack.. it was a series of attacks! We could guess when the attack was going to occur because it would be a Friday evening.. sometimes afternoon for the ones going for 'unpredictable.'

I had hoped that the griefers had realized it wasn't any fun to crash the grid as that's kind of like pushing over a domino that's already laying on it's back!

I disagree with the assessment that the PN wouldn't be stupid enough to announce it. They might not be, but their hanger-ons sure are. And they 'shout' the word of what they done as they spout offensive particles of all sorts around. If they'd only do this on land that's set to damage! Shooting them 'home' would give me great joy and entertainment.

Sounds fishy to me. What can we, the great unwashed, do about this beyond ARing them? I suppose turning off build on your property, but it isn't like I can mentally force SL not to crash, lol. I'm not a big fan of group spamming, as well intentioned as it is.

The time I'm talking about was over the course of a week or so. The only pattern was that I only had problems with SL if I logged on!

To be safe, for the time being i have turned off scripts, and building on my Sim.
It's better to be prepared, and not Need it, than to need it and Not be prepared. If it's a fake, i lose Nothing, If it isn't, my preperations could slow the attacks spread.

I received the warning through two sources, and while i Cannot swear it is true, or false, I thought the Lindens should know. I tried for Over an hour to Get through to SOMEONE, but all the usual avenues have been Cut Off. Well, I did everything I could, if the lindens don't Listen, it's their problem, not Mine. Ultimately i stand to lose maybe a few hours of playing time. They Lose a Lot More.

Angel.

I always thought it was because that's when the script kiddies are out of school....

Uhh.. the thing to do would be to start a warning thread themed around the idea of deciding whether or not it was actually a warning thread.

The thing to do would be to Search > People for whomever you consider to be a high-ranking Linden and drop the information on them, but that might get in the way of the previous paragraph.

If I were them I'd wait until the grid was relatively stable again or else no one will notice.

Disinformation, misinformation and playing on the paranoia of people. Some Estate owners have gone so far as to turn off scripts and collisions on thier simulators.
