There are many Second Life focused forums to chat or plot the overthrow of the Lindens or what have you.
Sluniverse.com, secondcitizen.com, sl-forums.com, sl.stratics.com all have forums SL folks can chat in.
Or one can try the IRC channel #secondlife on Efnet.
There's too many SL chatting places for me to list now, time to get back to work.

From: FD Spark Is it just me but does anyone else often find it difficult to make new friends in world or even find places that are worth going to socially inworld that don't involve photos of sex workers, a bunch of screaming avatars on dance floor or horrible lag? Its just you.. I like those things you listed with the exception of the lag! XD

From: Heretic Linden don't you like the new sun? No, the new sun is very ugly. The person that designed and or chose it should find a different line of work, one they are good at.

From: Heretic Linden Most social methods of communication are rooted in-world. Do you guys think we need non in-world social forums too? And Porky, don't you like the new sun? Yes, I think we need one too. Some of us can't be inworld all the time. *What New Sun?"*

We need the general section back to stabilize these forums. We don't need 3rd party forums. There are too many of them to keep track of anyway... People also share my feelings or the other sections of this very same forum wouldn't be taking on the flow that General used to have.

Personally there some great 3rd party forums like Flicker and others out there but truthfully it hard enough learning curve to just deal with Second Life and keep up with stuff just here and to just find and remember stuff as is. It gets personally bit too much sometimes all these choices so few really people participating or so much its too hard to keep up with it all.

From: Stormy Weeks Heretic, Since you work for Linden Lab, could you possibly alert Customer Service to the problems many people are having that are detailed here in the forums? Maybe social communication might be rooted in-world, but service communication doesn't seem to be. Stormy - If one Linden is looking I'm sure others are. Just because they don't post [answers to the same damn questions/complaints over and over .. and over again] here doesn't mean they dont look and aren't 'alerted' Heretic - don't you like the new sun? Yes its quite nice, thanks

Spot on, all in one place and as Brenda says, one-stop shopping. If there is a quiet time in here, I find something to do, I don't go logging into the multifarious third party sites which I have yet to find even remotely comparable to here.

If we're bringing back the general forum, I say we bring back Prok too.
*runs off looking for the "bring back bringing back" thread (that was a feature suggestion, wasn't it?)*

From my observation i doubt that even if all the residents in SL came together to protest this, that it would change anything. LL made their decision and from what i seen of their decisions in the past, they don't go back on it. Yes i want general forums back, but it's not gonna happen with how they do things now.

Well, I think it helps to remember all the forums that ARE still here - including this one, for when we have questions, or want to find out what is broken, or discuss something new happening to us.
There are also the technical forums and thank GOODNESS the Classified forums; remember when they were trying to remove that? Plus new features discussion and various other useful things.
So although these forums aren't what we would like them to be, at least they are here, and still do function as the official (if somewhat gutted) forums.
I do not like the sun, but I like even less the change to text that makes it blurry on many backgrounds, thus lessening our creative choices, in addition to blurring up the boxes in the edit texture window.
Heretic, I've sent you a couple of messages in world; I hope you have received them.

Thanks for the feedback, folks. Coco, I'll getcha next time I'm in-world.
Jellin, totally not snarky. I'm reading these posts (as are other Lindens) 'cause I'm interested in what Residents have to say. So keep talking to me.

Bring back General. The goodwill payoff will be worth the resources, even if it's full of grumpy posts. People want to talk.

From: Heretic Linden Most social methods of communication are rooted in-world. Do you guys think we need non in-world social forums too? And Porky, don't you like the new sun? Yes, we do need them. IM and chat are too limited for complex communication, and sometimes it is important to have asynchronous messages. We also need a way for the different communities in SL to talk to each other, and not just to themselves. I don't know of any way to do these things that is better than a forum.

One idea I saw on another forum: The Genearal and OT Forums were opt in. You had to ask to have access to them. Then pretty much it was open dialogue. If you weren't thick skinned enough , you didn't go. Also once in , you could be removed from those sub forums if you went over the line.

To answer the OP, see: Resident SitesFrom: Heretic Linden Thanks for the feedback, folks. Coco, I'll getcha next time I'm in-world.
Jellin, totally not snarky. I'm reading these posts (as are other Lindens) 'cause I'm interested in what Residents have to say. So keep talking to me. NOOOO don't listen to them, close your ears, their words will eat your soul! Joking aside, good to see you about. Some advice:- Pace yourself
Don't try to fix everyone's problems
- Take regular breaks from the forums
Don't spend time every day in the forums, the forums will suck up as much time as you give them and more, if you let them, they will drive you crazy.
- Don't let them get you down
People will always find something to complain about and most of the time, there is nothing you can do about it, it's a fact of the forums.
