Nothing, except the fact that it would have to be an alt with a premium account, which means that he'd have to pay at least $9.95 for the privilege. True, he could open a trial account and cancel it before the 7 days are up (not downgrade it to basic, because that costs $9.95 also), but at least it would be a lot of trouble to go to just to buy one cheap piece of land.

Or, that same alt could transfer the land to the primary, and continue picking off the cheap land for a cheap profit. Slimy.

Hello :)
A few times I have taken a loss on land by purposefully selling it to newbies who have great promise at content creation. They are rare, but I've seen people who are a week old already create custom textures/animations/clothes because of prior skill in 3D and graphic design. Your best bet is to manually search or advertise.

But not from the original poster, who is being urged to get personally involved with sales. Presumably he would sell only one plot to each avatar, so to rinse and repeat, the hypothetical land baron would either have to create additional alts or find another victim/seller to buy land from.

I have some land to sell, and I have been setting the price to just under whatever the lowest is on the search.
My hope was to sell to newbies who missed out on first land, but it just gets bought by land speculators who put it back on sale for an extra couple of hundred L$.
Has anyone any ideas how I could sell to people that want to build a home, rather than make a quick buck?

What you may consider doing... I'm new so I don't know if this would work for sure...

Set the land for a waaaay high price, higher than any reasonable person would buy it for.

Then, in a description, say that the land is only for new people, and the price will be adjusted for them after you have a conversation.

Typically you can get a pretty good read on people though chat, looking at their avatars, clothes...

It's not perfect, but it's an idea.

Here's an idea!

Have a prim with a script that will generate a notecard with a code in it. Have the code generated by an external site. Only people you specify can use the prim, no-mod, no-trans, and that should lock it down, then you could validate the code to be sure it was a valid referral... maybe something could set it up so the referrer could 'gift' a no-trans notecard to the individual in question, then they copy the text to you? have it tie into the avatar name?

At least then you'd have a valid referrer (mostly), and it would be the person referred using the code (you'd use their name as part of the code generator), embed the date into it too maybe...

I know, a little bit over-extended, but I'd be willing to figure out the LSL needed to do it if there's interest in it. I'm only 10 days in, but I'm proving pretty good at LSL thus far.

Yes... I know I kinda necro'd this, but not much. :)

Are people still buying 512m plots for 11k and up? If so, who are they please? And how can I direct them to my area? :-)

I've been unable to move a 512m plot at L$8250, let alone 11k.

There are hundreds, probably a thousand or more, of 512 plots for less than 8250, so it's no surprise its not moving at that price.

You might be trying to adjust the price in the wrong direction. ;)

Problem with that would be, people would never even get that far in the land search pages to see it. Especially not with two search pages of 512's listed at under $6,700 right now. Prices do seem to have adjusted down a little bit with all the new land being released.

Not sure if your other idea would work. You might try posting it in the scripting forum and see if the experts over there have any insight.

Well, based on my work today, i'm pretty sure it would just have to rez a prim for the person to take to him. I dug and dug for a way to make a notecard to no avail (trying to /really/ save settings instead of just depending on SL's memory and blah), but it could be done fairly well i should think.

Or how about giving them a prim with a no-mod no-trans script that will email to a specific address?

Or the third thought would be ...

limit the discount if you're just unsure if they're a newbie. Limit them to $1k off of market prices, which means after buying the land, and spending basically L$2500 they'd have to price it 1500 above market prices to sell it, which wouldn't work too well, no?
