The Tron thing they do to get him on the grid must shorten it.

Wonder what else was shortened... nm, I don't really want to know.

Woohoo, another opportunity to point out my favorite example of what's wrong with photorealistic skins (from SLProfiles). This avatar has haunted many a nightmare, I assure you:

yeah hey, his neck disappeared between photo #1 and 2;) is he like ET??

well looking how badly the skin matches there - do you blame him for getting rid of his neck?

this skin was made using a rl face that I did on the afore mention avatar island system
not all photo faces end up scary hehe
(of course I did a lot of retouching on this skin)

Iv'e seen a photorealistic skin that looked like rambo..One of the most depressing nights in Second Life that I had.

This guys was convinced his skin was good. I gave him every free good skin i could find...i could tell as soon as I TPd out he was going back to "Rambo" but he humored me.

He lived in a small house on a mainland parcel that he called his "mansion"...and..I'm sorry it made me wanna cry.I couldn't figure out if he was an old homeless guy in rl..a few bricks shy of a load...or some 13 yr old boy who had just been beat by his parents and denied dinner..sent to his room.

He had tried to wear clothing that indeed were rambo-ish..but it still looked..sad...scarf around the head..camo pants..Why did that make me feels so bad? His SL existance seemd so "lonely". It broke my heart :(

Hi (first post!). I met someone in world last month who had done this. She said she used photos of herself to create it, including nude. It looked horrible. Very blotchy and uneven everywhere considering she had no photoshop experience. She wanted to look like her RL self and she was happy with it so thats what counts in the end I guess.

Good for her trying it herself. I see no problem with anything in SL looking too realistic, lol. As for the pictures, I have done work with teenagers about the internet, sexuality and identity...doing this yourself is one thing, but these services where you send pics..., sorry, but ain't nobody I never met getting a pic of me nude :(

some skins are really good, but as long as we are stuck with the low detail av meshes and the horrible hip/thigh joints, edgy female breasts, feet that look like attached boxes ect. avs will never look realistic.

wl makes the mesh look even worse. in some light settings a formerly cute face becomes really scary (nearly impossible to create a "smooth" face shape) :)

i dont blame wl. it just shows the flaws by using proper lighting.

ah well i remember LL talking about an av update since i am in sl (1 year).
dont see it comming too soon though ;)

(whine whine my 4k l$ skin is worthless now) hehehe
(could make the new mesh compatible to old uv maps though, or just add a new mesh so people can pick the old or new one... ah well what a nice dream ;))

I do not know of any places that do skins from nude shots of one's self
the one I mentioned is only done from face shots

I've also seen male skins with hairy backs and butts.

Momma no like.

There is a whole store! where you can buy diff wearable layers of hair density, for guys that give the impression of body hair. The pubes are hysterical, sorries they really are.
Anyone can be a furbear!
I bought some for my legs and dressed up like the Lunch Lady,
but is funny too to be glamed and sneak on when some one is hitting on you or
a dying lull in a club.

I was just telling my partner about your post and someone overheard and asked me for a LM! What's the name of this place?

I did that sort of thing once with a guy who was being a pest - and was waiting confidently on one of a pair of dance poseballs.

Quick change:
Shape and skin = Hobo General -- Think very elderly, very emaciated orang outang with buck teeth, a pipe and spectacles
Clothing = Silks

The reaction was *totally* realistic :)
Poooof! Gone he was!!

From a graphic designer and cg artist, I'd have to say, 'Heck no they can't be too real!'

:)

I'm not concerned with the uncanny valley, I'm concerned with realism and immersion.

And in regards to SL...we don't have to worry about skins looking too real...the graphics engine within SL can't render realistic enough skins to even consider them reaching an uncomfortable level of realism.

Look at CG graphics in movies--movies like FF:tSW--those graphics are getting to the photo real level. Movies like LotR...that's realism...Second Life isn't any where NEAR that level of CGI. Why would I think skins are too real? When we start seeing games with graphics like LotR...then I'll start telling you I get the willies when I headshot someone...but right now, Crytek's engine is the best of the best right now...and again, SL is no where near that level yet.

In another 7 years...metaverses will have Crisis level graphics...that will be cool.

I am bumping you to an 8.5 on the Official Trout Measuring Instrument of Sluttiness. You are an enigma - on the one hand a sweet, gentle, intelligent woman who we would like to wrap up in our arms and protect, and on the other, a temptress to whom we would like to do all sorts of unmentionable things.

Congratulations and shame on you! You are a bit of a slut.
