@Kitty - I was thinking more along the lines of Collete predicting that peer pressure was going to drive the switch to voice. The end of the year is still 10 months away and a lot can happen, but my crystal ball tells me that if forced into a tier increase, a lot of island owners will walk away. I know I would certainly like to be a fly on wall when they tell Anshe Chung that her tier is going to increase by $420,000 a year....

She'll just pass the cost along to buyers and renters. In the mean time I'm anticipating using the mute button a LOT. Is there a limit as to how many av's you can mute?

If I wanted to talk with people I would use ventrilo and invite the people I wanted to have a conversation with. It could be useful at time, but you know people will stand around screaming just because they like to be annoying. Its the same reason adding voice to Counter-Strike annoyed me at first. Now at least there we're dealing with the same 16 people over the course of 2-3 hours if you're on a server playing with regulars. You can mute the occasional annoying person. This would be much worse.

Of course she will, but it will destabilize her business for months as a fair number of people decide that the increased cost isn't worth it. Those vacancies will be filled, but any business owner will tell you that high turnover is deadly to productivity and new tenants need lots of support. Keeping existing customers is a lot cheaper than finding new ones.

When voice arrives, Colette's forum avatar slogan will finally make sense.

She'll either cash out or go with the flow. Keep in mind that new citizens will take voice as a given along with the prices. It could be argued that for some the lure of voice on their own land will be a big selling point.

I can just imagine apartment dwellers dealing with noisy neighbors already. Way too rl for me.

HAHAHA

yeah this is gonna be the funny part for like 2 weeks before the novelty wears off.

I predict much nastier online relationship breakups!

I predict more peeping toms sneaking close enough to hear the voice cyber.

I think people who dont liek hearing profanity are going to be really annoyed in just every day crowds.

I predict alot of guys suddenly wondering why their "girlfriends" won't talk to them on voice out of fear of being discovered that they are actually male.

It'll be funny as an observer, but I don't think it'll be funny for sim operators tasked with ridding their areas of griefers. Just a thought here but maybe Lindens are pushing this because it will totally fubar abuse reports? Hard to prove a voice griefing after all.

Ah yes, the screaming breakups. Those should be fun.

I already get annoyed in every day crowds, I predict that crowded areas using voice will become no go zones, or everyone will opt out of using it. Either way.

ALthough ive always felt paranoia has exagerated the gender bending numbers - There will probably be some people who simply "disappear" becuase of voice. Possibly even couples.

Hmm in 4 months here, never seen a texture "not work" where did this less than 50% come from?

Hmm yes bad enough getting the text from the neighbours units around yours let alone the voice, nice if you have to mute your neighbour then can't say hello as you pass them in the hall.

Worse when a lot of males playing girls discover their girlfriends are also male, they may never ask :)

She has been buying up grandfathered sims, while charging prices that compensate for $295/month tier. Her renters won't be affected at all, she'll just make less money.

They've already said it won't effect lag on the servers. This voice chat will be very helpful, its a great way to take a step forward in second life.

I'm tired of inviting people into our private ventrilo, this would be soooo much better. If you don't want to hear people talk, then turn it off in the options. If you want people to know that you don't want to talk, then there will be a way to flag yourself as such.

It won't effect the servers but it will darned sure effect my already laggy freezy client. One positive I can think of - if the majority adopt voice and I keep it turned off - chat lag will become a thing of the past.

Point being that they need to work out a lot of bugs for the things they offer as of now before bringing in new changes.

I didnt want to give there any extra choices to confuse the results - hence the yes and no. I left the Pie option out too for this very reason.

**sniffles for the lack of Pie**

The 'no' is a simple one... Half the features LL offer now only work half the time for half the residents. I would rather they fix things that are broken before adding more things to break.

Oh Lordy "no"!!! What if you were to find out your male lover is a woman instead of a man. I have heard the voice of serveral of my friends on YIM. It is just not the same any more. Now I would never consider seducing them. Oh heck, a conquest gone wrong before it is even started.
