I'm less enthused about meshes these days. They should be dramatically more efficient than sculpties, but unless the developers have something unexpected planned, I'd expect meshes to have similar limitations as sculpties: there won't be much a script can do with them, and they, too, will just get one surface texture to use for the whole mesh. They'll make some pretty prims, no doubt, so that will be fun for some people.
I'd be thrilled just to see that: tailor making the mesh, so there will be no need to waste polygons and UV mapping so textures will fit properly without the need to move unneeded spans into an area to avoid stretching. I mean, I'd love to be able to rig and animate, too, but let's take what we can get.
For all those worried about lag, all LL needs to do is limit the mesh size. It would be analogous to the way textures are limited in size now. Of course, there will be people who load up a sim, just as there are now with people who slap 1024 textures all over and run a million chat listen and high speed scanner scripts.
