PLEASE HELP!. I KEEP CRASHING WHEN I TELEPORT ANYWHERE, LAG, NO LAG, IT DOESN'T MATTER!!. this happens with reg Second Life or Windlight. I run XP, have replaced my modem combination router. I have 2 GB RAM, a 256K Nivdia card, have ran CHKDSK, virus scan, defrag, cleaned my registry, Demilitarized my router (DMZ ), have tried everything u named it. Even had Comcast my ISp come in and check my line. 95% of the time, when I TP anywhere, i crash, i freeze, cant type, I end up at 10,10,10 coordinates or walk thru the floor to no end. Sometimes I am ruthed. Clearing cache most of the time doesn't work. unless, i delete it and reset a new one or create a new file name. I am so fed up here. I cant go anywhere. Somedays are good, most are really bad. my download speed is in the 13,000 KBPS and upload is 4000kbps. Any ideas why this keeps happening to me?. and yes, i have made sure i had no other apps running in background, and i have even disconnected my McAfee just to see if it maybe was causing it. it want. oh and another thing.. if /when i clear my cache and have a successful log in and i happen to go into my inventory folder while it is loading, guess what? I crash too.... Any fixes will be greatly appreciated :)) THANK YOU ALL !

I found that different ways of teleporting have different effects depending on the state of lag and so on in sl. Sometimes someone sending me a tp wont work where as using the tp function on a landmark will.

Its just a suggestion and you may have already tried different methods of choosing to teleport (ie from the map, from landmarks or responding to friends requests) if you havent maybe trying a different method of tp'ing might help ?

Well, first things first: having nothing to do with SecondLife, if the machine has been in a DMZ, make sure it's not anymore, then unplug it from the network altogether and run a thorough virus scan and examine the results carefully before plugging it back into the network. If there are other machines on your LAN, be very sure this one wasn't infected with anything detectable, or if it was, unplug everything else and scan them, too. The DMZ is a *very* hostile place these days, especially for Windows machines. Especially on a cable network. [/soapbox]

All that said, it sure sounds like network to me--except you've tried most everything I'd know to suggest (and some I wouldn't ;) ).

One thought, though: Does this happen with any other account (like an alt) on the same machine? In theory, these symptoms could be caused by server-side Inventory corruption.

this may sound a stupid question but which country are you in ?

I once heard that one country restricts access to some of sl ? Could that be a possibility ?

Okay, well, as frustrating as it seems, that's all good news: at least you won't be losing your Inventory! Now, if only we can figure out what *is* wrong.

I see you have a post open on Technical Issues about the same problem. Probably that's where you'll get the best help; I found this /111/39/226933/1.html#post1783962 post on an old thread there that looks like it might be worth a shot.

ah in that case my theory is HIGHLY unlikely... I suppose you thought of asking the people at inworld on live chat to help ?

I can empathize. Just before Thanksgiving, I started to crash within 10-15 minutes of log in. I uninstalled (deleted the applications folder too!) then reinstalled SL two times, then reinstalled Windows XP Home (full format), then reinstalled SL. I STILL have problems after 10-15 min. Others in the household using SL have none. Leads me to believe in some cases it is avatar specific.

I have trimmed my inventory 10 minutes by 10 minutes :P Nada. I have tried my alt on the same machine, and have fewer problems. Thing is, very few know my alt's name, and I prefer to keep it that way.

If you find a solution, please post! I know I will :)

My SL has been doing this about 80% of the time. It didn't start happening until Wednesday's update. :(

Yess, this is happening to me too for about 3 or more weeks.

It happens much more if i stay in one place for a good few hours then try to go elsewhere. Just logging in and TPing about shopping seems to work ok, but then suddenly i stay somewhere for a bit and then leaving I get the long TP moof and the bing.

I used to have this problem and I assumed it was a mac issue but who knows?. I stumbled on a work-around. Setting my draw distance to the minimum of 64 has cleared it up for me completely. Worth a try.

I assume you tried taking off all attachments you're wearing? (And relog after removing them).

Dumb questions continue:

Can you TP by using the map?

Can you TP using SLURLs?

Can you stay connected if you log out of SL and connect to the region you want and then TP from within the region itself?

I am assuming you have rebooted your router aplenty, but are you getting any error messages when you try to connect back in? In particular, does it ever hang at the "Waiting Region Handshake" stage? or "Connecting to Region"?

Do you have a premium account? Once you've got the answers to these, and if taking off your attachments doesn't help, try the support chat.

Quite often a corrupted attachment causes lots of probs.

Check your caps lock key. Sometimes if the caps lock is stuck while teleporting, you crash.

Teleporting issues
12-16-2007 17:25
I also am experiencing the same issue. I've tried all of the various methods to get around. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I double checked my system and I have the system requirements and above.

If someone might be available to lend a hand I would really appreciate it.

Thank you.

I've had this problem last week. Have you had a chance to try another ISP or from another physical location. Seems that some IP address in SL are being blocked at the ISP level and you will end up doing the death TP to any server that is blocked. I've ran across a variation on where some ports are blocked. If you are network savy you can from out what IP address you are trying to connect to by using the netstat command will trying the tp. Using that information contact you ISP and see if there is a network problem to that address.

Slow or bad DNS servers at your ISP can also cause craching when teleporting... When you scross a sim border ot TP, your PC has to do a domain name lookup on the server the new region is on.

Try using the free OpenDNS server IP addresses instead of your ISP's:

Primary: 208.67.222.222
Secondary: 208.67.220.220

Change the DNS server IP addresses in your router to see if it makes a difference.

I have particular boots -my Rave Forest Rave boots, that I can only tp once in. Try again and I crash. I also have some hair that is primulous to the extreme. I have never risked hair and boots together because I think i would bring down sims. LOL.

SL going down hill

Unfortunately,,, you're not alone regarding these TP crashes!!!! I feel your frustration!! SL has definitely degraded in the last few weeks. If is wasn't for the wonderful friends I've made, I would definitely cancel my account! The enjoyment SL provides has been destroyed with it's current instability!!!

Are you on a wireless connection? Some folks have a hard time with wireless.

Also a TP crasher without UPLOAD ability
12-18-2007 13:10
My problems are the same,I crash about 99 percent of the time when I TP. For some reasons, it seems I am more successful on SIMS with fewer people. I also am unable to upload pictures or use the send postcard option. I often get a failure due to "server difficulties".

I have had the issues since early November. I have tried all that you have including having my ISP heavily involved. I thought it was MAC related. LL suggested firewall problems, but the problems exist with the firewall disabled. I have DSL with a 2WIRE 2701 HG-D modem and am running a MAC G5 with 10.3.9 (was about to update until I read some of the forums). I have downloaded the most current Windlight and have installed/uninstalled more times than I can count.

ANY HELP?

Please post if you find a solution and I will do the same. It really ruins the experience.

Hang tough and keep sending the crash report in to LL.

Since this posting i have replaced my 2wire modem with my old actiontec and all problems are gone. Research I have found suggests that the 2wire modem's firewall is never really disabled, perhaps that has caused some problems???!!?? Either way, I am keeping my fingers crossed that the actiontec holds up.

I Think I Fixed It Using Zone Alarm And Removing Mcafee
12-19-2007 15:43
Wow!! Thank You All Soo Much For The Great Ideas....
yes, i have removed all HUD attachments,
yes, it seems to happen more after i have been on a sim quite sometime
yes, i have gone to live help at new citizens and they are totaly useless.
yes i sent a ticket and still waiting, no response,
yes, i will make sure my large caps isn't on
yes it happens weather i am in DMZ or not, firewal or no firewall.

what did seem to help was that i uninstalled McAfee virus and i am now using ZONE ALARM.
I am keeping my fingers crossed. BTW, from my peers, this seems to happen ALOT to ALOT of ppl. I have concluded is not me, is SL !!!.
Thank you all for all your input!!!!

They doesn't know what's the problem... this is the fact, so a solution doesn't exists (read: it is unknow at the moment). My TP's are failing eveytime (100%) if i stay longer in a SIM... it means that i've to relog at each TP... and im not alone indeed.
This is happening from a month ago, there's a JIRA entry with high priority level and multiple reply and none seems to care... so we can only hope.
