Freebies all over the place, but sadly most of the skin/hair true newbie packs won't be available. =/ Get your hands on one or two of the big newbie packs and they should point you in the right directions.... but most shops will have freebies or cheap stuff somewhere in the shop. Most are right at the front in nondescript boxes. ^.^
(freebie necklace at my shop, not that jewelry is critical for new outfits =P slurl is on the first page of the forums open house thread floating around somewhere)

Thanks for the offer of hair or where to find some. I already found Free Dove and I no longer have the stuck to my head mat that I started out with so it's not as if I'm gonna die from bad hair now anyway.
Next thing to do now that I'm in is check and see if I'm wearing panties... No noob bare bottoms here!

I went afk and was logged off and came back and had been jumped into a group called $dinero$money$ or something close to that. I was wondering how that happened? I quit the group as soon as I figured out how, but it seemed kinda weird. Could it have come with some freebie I picked up? *shrug*

Shouldn't be possible. Theoretically, you either have to accept an invite (blue pop-up message in the top right corner) or manually search and join a group.
