I found the forums! AKA: Hi, I'm new.

Greetings Everyone!

I'm thrilled to find a place where I can ask a couple of questions while SL is experiencing its bellyache. I hate to admit this, considering how annoying it must be for everyone here, but I'm glad that SL has been having problems. It hasn't been very stable for the past few days since I downloaded the client and started checking it out. I was afraid it was on my end and I wasn't going to be able to play.

Since I have a few of you cornered here in the forums due to the network issues, I hope you don't mind if I pick your brains a wee bit.

Question:

I set up my account a year ago but due to connectivity and hardware issues was unable to begin playing. (playing doesn't seem to be the right word, but I'll use it here for lack of a better one.) Does this mean that my beginning date is actually a year old and that I can't use the vouchers for nifty new hair that has an expiration date, or does the clock start ticking when I actually begin playing?

It took me at least five minutes to figure out how to make my avi stop being a naughty girl! *blush*

As to your questions...... the clock started ticking when you created your avi, so unfortunately no newbie hair anymore. (sobs, i love hair!). Your start date is in your profile (right click on yourself, choose profile).

ETD has nice free and/or cheap hair for anyone, of any age. I'm not sure you can get it right at the moment though, since she's in the middle of a group members-only sale and had planned to temporarily close enrollment until she opens things back up to the general populace again.

Panache (I think I spelt it right lol) used to give away two newbie hairstyles that were very nice, imo. I think they actually cost like 1L$ or something, can't rmember, but that might be better for you than the Lidnen hair until you can get better.

And IM me in-world and I'll send you some free skins. They aren't the best (the are free after all) but might hold you until you can build up from there.

LL's keeping me from logging in atm. *kicks the bugs in the server* So it might take a day or two for me to get the skins to you.

As a not-long-out-of-SL-graduation myself, I have condemned myself to sitting on the sign at Orientation Island to help newly-arrived newbies - so I'm pretending its an average day in SL, there is lots of noisy gestures playing, the lag is horrible, and you want to know how to "get back to the first island you were in".

No, seriously... i don't know about the start date / free hair thing. My guess is that if you haven't ever logged into SL, not even to do Orientation, then you may be lucky with your start date, but that' just a guess.

anyone's start date by right-clicking them, choosing profile, and it's right there on the first page.

As for freebies - just do a Search for freebies in the All tab and there is loads and loads of stuff for you. Whole packs of clothes, gestures, shapes, skins, tats, even vehicles and houses. Have fun looking around. And if you are ever at Orientation Island with me, I have a folder of useful landmarks I can give you.
