I've heard the Office Supply place downtown got in trouble because they had desks that asked for debit permissions and then emptied your bank account.

OK - serious question, since the subject has come up. I have my dad's desk that I want to use permanently. It's beautiful, and it's a nice reminder of him. But it's at my mom's house in California. I have no idea how long it will take to get it up here. It could be months and months. I've picked out a desk I really like to use in the meantime, but it's a little more expensive than the others. What to do? Do I get a cheapo disposable desk for the next 6-months to a year or do I spend a couple hundred dollars more and get the one I really like, even though I may end up not needing it. Getting the nice desk takes the pressure off to go to California at a time when I can't afford to take a couple days off, so that's a consideration. BTW - as far as desks go, the one I want isn't terribly expensive, either. It's not like we're talking thousands of dollars here.

I would get the better desk, when you get you dad's desk, it would be easier to give to someone else in the office whose desk may not be as nice.

get it. you deserve to be pampered a bit, and if you take good care of it, it will retain its value for the next guy when you are finished with it.

How old/sturdy is your Dad's desk? Not to be an alarmist but if it's a big heavy kinda thing moving them can put alot of wear and tear on it. My L$2 would be to just get the better desk and not try to force moving the other unless you're really sure.

Trout, you never know when you can get your Dad's desk. Get a good desk. You owe it to yourself. And to whoever winds up under it.

I say get the more expensive one. It will NOT end up in the trash since someone else will want it when you're done with it. A cheap desk, on the other hand, won't last and will look cheap so it is more likely going to end up holding up the coffeemaker than being put to proper use. So the more expensive one is far better value.

Old and heavy, but solid mahogany. If I were to move it, I'd fly down, rent a truck and move it myself. I agree - you have to be careful moving stuff like that, but the workmanship on this desk is very good. The joints are all tight, the joinery is otherwise excellent and the desk is very solid.

I think I'm going with the nicer desk. That way I can take my time with my dad's desk, and maybe Craiglist the new one when I don't need it anymore.

you have a right to not shop where ever you wish to not shop, however classing me into an unethical classification because I shopped somewhere that you consider the owner of to be unethical was downright wrong.
