Good morning (afternoon, evening, night) everyone!

If I can get the time to be in game today, I'll actully leave help island for the first time. I am now an expert on unpacking boxes of freebies and arranging my inventory. Or at least trying to.

I'll let you know how it goes. If you're interested that is.... :)

Oh, any advice if I do venture?

There are many very good freebie places that cater to new victims, I mean residents. Many have free skins, hair, and clothes. Free Dove, the Shelter, and NCI all come to mind. A good group to join is the the Forum Cartel. Just search for it in the groups section. Many of the frequent posters in these forums are members.

First do a Search All for "Forum Cartel" and join the group. We chatter a lot but you can also ask questions and see who is online.

Some Other groups you might be interested in are "The Shelter" and "NCI" (New Citizen Institute). These two will have more people and almost always have people at their hangouts. They are also new player friendly and great for asking questions or getting advice.

Harlow, if you do not mind me asking, is your avatar male or female? For that matter, are you even planning on using a human avatar? :) I ask so I know where to send/take you for some clothes, skin, AO and all the other bits that make up a new resident.

Another one is Levels. They have tons of classes and I think there is almost always someone there.

If you are there in the early mornings, like 2-4:30 am SLT, look in the sandbox for a girl named Moth (it's my secret builder alt).

Thank you for the advice, I think... Victims huh? :D

Seriously thanks, when I can get in I'll check those places out. :)

You'll probably start acquiring lots of freebies. Definitely try to keep up on the inventory organizing as you do -- you can actually be very surprised at how fast things accumulate and get totally out of hand.

My biggest recommendation is to spend no actual money (other than L$1-10 for cheapies) in your first month or two here. Take some time to figure out what you really like and want before plopping any money out there.

And as you start meeting people, realize that time in SL is very unlike RL, emotions can seem much more intense, and relationships can become deep overnight.

Most important - HAVE FUN. Keep posting here, come meet some of us at the Hangout or chat with us in the group chat, and look for other groups and places the peak your interest.
:)

Thanks. I'll be sure to check them out soon. I'm sure they're getting sick of me on help island.

I don't mind you asking. I'm a female, though I have to confess, I did click on the men's freebies so I do have them also. :p (I think I have all the freebies from there. lol)

Thanks. I do want to look into classes once I can get a handle on what I'd like to do. From what I've read, there's so many things I could try.

I've not been on at that time, but then again, I've been just popping in when I can be on, so have not set up a routine. I'll be sure to try to find you, if I'm on then. :)

btw - Cool name. It reminds me of a Seinfield episode. I think there was one where George likes the name Seven, if my memory is working right.

Thanks! yes - the episode was called "The Seven":
From: someone

George: It’s a beautiful name for a boy or a girl… especially a girl. Or a boy… I defy you to come up with a better name than Seven.

Jerry: Alright, let’s see. How about Mug? Mug Costanza, that’s original. Or uh, Ketchup? Pretty name for a girl.

Harlow is a pretty cool name, too.

I've been trying to organize as I open boxes now. Some of the freebies, I don't even know what they are for, but figured I'd grab everything because I might need/use it in the future. Whatever I'm not sure of, is in a folder I named Miscellaneous. It's got lots of stuff in it. :p

Thank you for that advice. I've been told that I'll eventually want to buy a good skin and hair. Though a mentor gave me some nice hair so I tried them all and found some ones I really like. Some of them look so real.

Thanks Lil, I will keep that all in mind. I'm trying to be slow to get used of the game, but hopefully I'm not too slow. I like it a lot so far and hope to be posting pictures in here like everyone does. They are so gorgeous.. :)

/me wants to know where Koko gets all the amazing skins... drooldrooldrool...

That is a custom skin.. I stalked the creator and held her down until she created it for me :) It came out fantastic! Even the tattoos on it work perfectly, because she sized the patterns for my height.

I think I remember more of it now. George was upset when he told a couple of the name and they named their new baby?

Thanks. I've been seeing it mentioned when reading things and thought it was cool so here I am now, using it. :)

My Miscellaneous folder ended up with 70% of a 20,000 item inventory.

Be aware that objects put into any folder named with a generic term will breed and multiply while you're logged out.

Still in Frisco. Flying home in a few hours. We've had a great time here.

OMG the forums are a pain in the ass using a mobile browser. The cell formatting seems to freeze my phone.

Harlow, the FreeStyle blog has a huge list of free resources that are available for avatars less than 30 days old. Make sure you get some of those while you can. It includes shapes, skins, hair vouchers, general newbie kits, etc. The AO (Animation Override) from Long Awkward Pose is a must:

http://slfreestyle.blogspot.com/2009/08/list-under-30-days-avatar-resources.html

Freebie stores you should search for once you've left Help Island:

The Gnubie Store
Free Dove
FabFree (aka Fabulously Free in SL)
Peppermint Blue Freestore
Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise

Does anyone have a link to HoneyBear's blog. That one might be useful for Harlow also.
