I keep hearing people say that gift cards are the "lazy" way out, but really, do I have to go spend hours trying to pick out a gift that I think someone will love, have them open it, and before I've made it home, they're out returning it for something they *really* wanted?

On the other hand, some years ago, my sister, when still dating her now-husband, made up a "wish list" which she updates a few times a year. We call it her "List of Power." It's a "bubble-gum to diamonds" sort of list; anything she wants, she puts on there (crew socks, towels, jewelry, clothing, housewares, tools, etc.).

THAT sort of list is handy. Her husband is forever grateful for that list (as is my sister).

Unfortunately, I don't walk around with a List of Power for everyone...so generally, gift cards are often the very best thing to give. :)

They're from Axel and come in a bunch of colors. My only complaint is no prim pant leg option, but I suppose the pinstripes might be a pain to line up.
