From: Macphisto Angelus I won't be around for a bit today as I am ripping Windows Vista out and going to get XP to put back in. Driver issues (written for vista) etc has tested my last nerve. Yes, I know there are those who will mock me.. but I know what works well for me dammit! Good luck with that. Hope it's not TOO hideous a project. XP works so much better than Vista, for many different applications I use.

From: Amaranthim Talon <snip> Allegria - hmm... haven't seen Allegria for a couple pages either... /me hangs her head in shame. I haven't been keeping up my duties to the Cult of the Thread. Pesky RL keeps intervening. I can't believe they actually expect me to work occasionally here! And then the whole drama with the cats yesterday... I admit, I thought of posting last night, but just fell into my lovely, king size, cat-free hotel bed, alone alas, but still heavenly.

OK, I don't think this warrants it's own thread, but I want an answer, so anyone willing to give one would be...mm..thanked!
Do I spell Keira oddly? Seems most people automatically type it Kiera, so iono.
I know that I prefer Keira, but is that an unusual spelling for it?

I know that I prefer Keira, but is that an unusual spelling for it? Well, many people make the mistake of spelling the word weird - 'wierd'. I've seen your name spelt different ways in RL, even with a 'y', so I just think it's a matter of choice (and simply a mistake if some are spelling yours wrong inworld). I sometimes mistakingly call my niece Cléo, (her name is Cloé). She is kind to her old aunt, and quickly forgives her. I still haven't heard one DJ (or voice chat user) pronounce my name 'right', it just makes me laugh, though. I had no idea it would give so many people trouble, if I had known, I would have just spelt it Isabo.

I know that I prefer Keira, but is that an unusual spelling for it? I didn't think it was a real name, and therefore you can spell it however you like.

Means I always have the i before e and e before i right with normal words ^_^

(Speaking of names...woulda been cool to be named Okiphia .. have fun with people saying that one on voice, I can imagine teachers growing up XD) Apparently, according to wikipedia (which is suspect at the best of times) Keira Knightley uses her real name. That's a rarity for actors and actresses. But she spells it the same as you, so all is well.

A lot of the ones on this list seem to be actors with Germanic sounding names in the aftermath of World War II, or with Russian sounding names during the Cold War, simply anglicising their names. Such as Walter Matuschanskayasky is a good example.
Also, most actor's unions require that you change your name to join if a member with your name, or one too simillar, already exists. If another Keira Knightley is out there wanting to be an actress, and she tries to join equity, she will have to legally change her name to Maureen Chalkwitheringlicktacklefeff to join the union.

Wow..never knew that o.o I knew they often required new names, or recommended it or whatever, but didn't realize the reasoning like with the wars, and similar names. Thankies for the knowledge ^_^

Thankies for the knowledge ^_^ A friend of a friend is a professional (read "Joey from Friends type layabout and general shiftless dreamer with unrealistic expectations" actor and his name was already taken. Look out for Jeremiah Lockhart coming to a screen near you soon (never)!

(Amara is right about Imako, hehe)
In college, we had a professor explain how they had named their daughter Conan, before the Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. The whole class groaned and immediately felt sorry for his daughter. It's one thing to name your daughter after a male known only to those interested in the Fantasy genre, but she was in her early teens when the movies came out. Poor girl...
Conan is nice for a guy, though.

Conan is nice for a guy, though. He could have meant Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
