I have a question for those folks familiar with London.

I am headed to London on business at the end of the month (yay!!). I've had a request to bring back a Tottenham Hotspur football jersey. Where's the best place to find it while I'm in London?

Your best bet is prolly to go to a sports store. I'm not familiar with London (I'm too far north for that) so I dunno where abouts they are but if you find a JD Sports, or a JJB, something similar, they're most likely gonna have a hotspurs shirt.
I'll bet you could even ask at the hotel where the best place to get one is.

Of course, if you are in North London you could head for White Hart Lane and see in the home grounds...I'm sure they'll have a Spurs store in there.

Whoever is requesting that shirt roots for Max's team, so kudos to them. However, I would not recommend the pilgrimage to White Hart Lane itself. The area is the armpit of the universe.

Mo, if you are in central London then go to Lillywhites on Piccadilly Circus. It's a very big and old fashioned sports shop, unlike the pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap new entrants in the market.

And Fortnum and Masons is close by for tea. And I know several very discrete wine bars in the vicinity you might enjoy as well.

I used to work practically on Piccadilly Circus. Where are you staying/working in London? If it is not in central London I can probably point you in the right direction anyway, and make some recommendations on other places of interest if you want a local view rather than consult a guidebook. Let me know.

Oh and your private messages are maxed out or I wouldn't be making shameless offers in public like this . . .

Lillywhites is no longer the purveyor of fine sporting goods and apparel it once was. After financial difficulties, it was sold to Sports World International, who specialise in pile 'em high, sell 'em cheap retailing. The only things that separate Lillywhites from its out of town mall brethren are the name and the fabulous building. Sadly.

Wow, thank you! :)

Pep, I will take a look at Lillywhites.

And...I am staying at the Dorchester (someone made the reservations for me)! From what I've read and heard, it seems like a lovely place. :)

Agreed it has gone downhill since the days it had a liveried commissionaire to open the doors for you, but at least you can still find the tillpoints there. Last time I went into a JJB store I spent ten minutes looking for somewhere to pay, eventually finding them as deep into the place as they could put them.

That's how they get you to buy more stuff... the farther into the store the register is, the more stuff you have to walk past. Nasty marketing ploy.

Please note this advice from the Dorchester website:

"The dress code at The Dorchester is smart casual, however we do request that guests refrain from wearing baseball hats, shorts and training shoes."

The Silly things I know (or think I know) of England:

They have really cool accents. It doesnt matter what the girl looks like, her accent makes her HAWT!

They drive on the opposite side of the road. Which also means they have tan right arms. :)

Avoid the moors! Stay on the Road! ;)

They gave us Benny Hill & Monty Python & Dr. Who & Red Dwarf. YAY!!

I can't tell if they're pissed off or not!!! They seem polite no matter what!!!

They managed to take all the crappy, low life human types in America & compress it into The Chav.

They have tons of interesting history & places to see.

It looks cold there. And Rainy.

Their idea of Football is waaaaay off! WTF??? No pads, no helmets, no 200lb men slamming into each other??? Wheres the fun!!!

They gave us the Punk movement of the 70s. Which is Cool!

They also gave us VNV Nation!!! VERY COOL!

They have a Queen. We have a President. They keep theirs for ever. We pick & choose from a bunch of idiots. Whoever tells us the best BS Story gets picked for 4 years.

If I was able to visit another country, it'd probably be England. It's closer than Japan & I know the language more or less. I wouldnt have to do the 'dumb american' thing of talking loudly & slowly so they might understand. :)

Stuffing a turkey is not something you want to be caught doing in England.

A few months ago, I was chatting with some people I had met; one was German the other was from England. They were teasing me about GW Bush since I am also from Texas. I told them they could not really blame us for our expantionist policy -- we are their childeren after all.

Take care of your back. I've had major back issues for years and mine is flaring up right now. It's no fun at all and it can make itself worse quickly. With me, I started with chronic spasms which were bad enough to pull my spine out of alignment, and the constant wear and tear in the spine has resulted in arthritis in my lower back.

Trust me - take care of your back now before it gets worse.
Poor baby! That sounds very unpleasant. I hope you have many and better "good" days.

Try riding a motorcycle to work in it! I don't know whether it was foggier inside my helmet or outside! I spent the whole ride in mopping the face shield off.

Still more fun than driving a car. :p
Lol I've learned not to try running in glasses on foggy mornings.

Make that "ultra cool" That sounds like a great experience. One of my many former employers put me up at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood for 3 weeks once.

It seemed very swank to me at the time but not like The Dorchester!

Oooh, I love the Roosevelt Hotel!! I've never stayed there, but I've had drinks in the lobby. I felt very hip, lol.

Oh! and I meant to tell you, Kaimi, that that clock was very cool. Mesmerizing, really.
