Request for Proposal I believe.

Request For Proposal -- it is a way of sending out your requirements for something to many companies and having them send back their suggested answer that will tell you basically how they can solve your problem. In my company, the RFPs are seldom specific enough, nor complete enough -- and the responses are half lies (granted, I work for government, so that might explain a lot right there).

ETA: Based upon how I have seen LL deal with their stated timelines before, it would seem that they like to use the government approach in that area -- that means that if the RFP is not already out there AND the responses already received, then there is not a chance in hell any decisions will be made and implemented by the end of Oct.

Then there’s the RFQ or Request For Quotes. Those are usually sent to qualified candidates that have a track record in whatever you intend to implement. RFQs work best in my opinion when project goals have already been established. RFP’s mean “i have no idea what I want so please tell me what to do”

yup, then it takes the companies submitting the RFP's a couple of months of studying to write and submit the RFP followed by LL spending a couple of months studying the RFP in scores of meetings where nothing gets decided except when to have the next meeting. Eventually everyone gets bored and the matter is tabled indefinitely.

So, I'm going to pull a Rioko (shall we now call it that?), or shall I just say Goodbye and Thanks For All The Fish?

I've decided to take a break from SL for a while. Going to attend to my RL for a change since I have some people in it which matter to me (which includes mostly myself), that I would like to focus a bit more on than I have been.

Still will be in now and then, to attend events which have special significance, so I won't be completely AWOL, but for the most part, I'm a goner for now.

/me skips off merrily, but leaves a trail of pie and cookie crumbs so I can find my way back...

I don't think the interest has waned, I think it's more a matter that a lot of the guys here are:

1. Broke
2. Cheap
3. Intimidated by your awesomeness
4. Have a lady friend looking over their shoulder saying "Don't you even think about it"
5. All of the above


And on top of all that............

Hence why government uses them so much.
