From: Zaphod Kotobide Fairly normal.. have you tried turning down your particle count? As others have mentioned, particles are client side, and it may just be too much in the render pipeline.. I've had massive particle displays absolutely kill my client before. Is your local framerate always 15 or is that low? (check that number in another sim).. as I would think heavy particles might adversely affect that. Turned down my particle count to zero. Can't even see them anymore. Is my local framerate always that low? That's a very personal question, Zaphod . To be honest, I've never checked before, but I will check it elsewhere. Thanks.

the griefer attack yesterday (sunday, 11-12-07) was very permissions-request intensive... the lindens should try to throttle permissions just like they've throttled previews. (meantime yah, cut your particles preference to 0 and see if that helps get you back on your land. then AR the heck outta them!!

I have a theory. This may be all wrong, but... I think it may be a landbot trap.

Heyho, My garden is in that neck of the woods........ hi neighbour Stood around with Qie (nice to meet you and thanks for dropping by! ) and we gave up figuring it out. There may or may not be a private dispute going on, the problems in the region may or may not be related to the mad particle thingy going on. That said...... I was there with every possible option turned down to the minimum, including particles, my keyboard informs me that my system is well up to the job and so is my connection. It´s still painful out there. So I guess we could turn this into a mystery quest If it wasn't so annoying, I'd be smiling

I'm there now, and not seeing much in the way of any substantial performance issues.. Time dilation is is between .99 and 1, sim framerate is solid on 45 fps, total frame time is well down to healthy levels with plenty of headroom..
And look at all the purdy colors...
Maybe the problem went away..

From: Chas Connolly Hi, not a noob. Just feel like it sometimes. How do you check what is affecting your sim. Where I am was fine until a couple of days ago, when someone bought a 1024 m2 parcel, split it into 16 m2 lots (yeah, I know, shit!) and then proceeded to cover his land in particle effect fireworks. Guy is an SL lawyer (yeah, I know, shit!) Basically, we can't do anything any more. I have to go elsewhere for my inventory and clothes to load. And everying's fine there. I go home and I seize up and crash. Could it be the fireworks and is there a way of checking? Thanks. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

From: Zaphod Kotobide Further to this, if it were a private island, the estate owner would have tools available to determine what scripted objects were consuming the most script time, and who they belonged to. Unfortunately on mainland sims only Linden Lab employees have access to this data - Is anyone aware of a reason why those tools aren't made available to mainland sim owners? Would those tools use LSL scripting functions which are not publicly documented?
