Tegg, I think you have proven that you will be the most excellent overlord of SL. Not for any of the reasons given, but because you obviously have plenty of time on your hands.

If I was dictator of world everyone would have exactly what they want to create and have fun, no one would be nickled and dime to death, everyone would have enough to buy or contribute to community without it being hardship, people would be nice, supportive and helpful and their wouldn't be the need to scam others or worry about your creations being taken and used unlawfully or ways that would leave creators unappreciated.
And of course there wouldn't be any limits on what we could create. If we didn't know
how it would come to us magically.
But that probably will never happen.
Actually though I would want to implement my years of research.
Making social interactions easier, more tools for creativity and personal expression regardless of skill, more private land controls and options to prevent lag, ugly scenes with neighbors but with options for community and one and one interactions in private land areas. Yet room for loners to interact and create too, that they wouldn't be forced to interact if they didn't want too.
More games and economic possiblities. Less hassles and lags. More fun, More community and friendship building options, including more ways to learn new things.
There would be affordable way to play SL offline but with same social interaction possiblities.
And those ugly clothing and uv options would change one would have more slider options that don't require bell bottoms. Different way to control and organize one's inventory. More tools to create with that everyone could use. More animation and interaction choices.
Everyone would be able to make animated clips of their adventures or stories.
Including personal 3D virtual website with avatar cam's of private worlds if they choose.
More game and program options... that wouldn't cause lag or require huds.
Playing Games would be new way to gain profit and met new friends, gain skills.
Interactive Avatar Television where people could show off their creations, have discussions when they chose in remote locations without worrying about group spam or tons and tons of instant messages. Personalize Activity and reminder system where you would be told of events and things that was important to you when you wanted information. Sort of like Activity TVIO for SL residents.
Also there would be more ways to to see the world and interact with it.
The cameras wouldn't get stuck in textures, you could build underground cities and space stations in correct places.
For those who were into veichles and travel there would be travel safe regions that would connect the entire world.
And most important more ways to conduct business and protect content without interferring with sharing content for non-business purposes. Group could own certain type of personal group use content for group creative and exploration process without upsetting content designers about losing profits.
Most important for every Linden spent it would add joy, not budgetary hardships or resentments.

FUN QUESTION!

Firstly, I'd offshore SL or better yet, decentralize it into several offshores, so that gambling, and other now banned activities that harm nobody when played out in SL, but P.O. the moral police all over the world, would return. However, they like all business, would be taxed. There would be taxes here, but they would be flat and capped.

Then I would organize some sort of resident-controled legislature and court system to make laws and handle griefers, botmasters, etc.. This government would NOT however be able to alter laws made by me and placed in my ideal TOS, (such as ban gambling, when gambling is permitted by my TOS) No need for police as the court could merely tp the defendent directly to trial with their key.

Stipends would be the same for every citizen regardless of when they entered SL.

I would make sure that every resident did not leave Orientation Island or Help Island without first understanding basic things about object manipulation: how to move them, setting to group, rotating them. No pass, no leave.

I would also ensure that anyone looking to purchase land got a class in land ownership and management. You couldn't buy land until you passed a test.

Good idea, along with a DISCLAIMER IN BOLD LETTERS THAT SAYS IF YOU GET SCAMMED, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. Or something to that effect lol

the default av would be a 6inch tall faerie, with random wing colors... so you could feel magical and special when you were ruthed.

Premium memberships would come with a hot, fresh-baked, dutch apple pie at your RL door in 30 mins or less, or your first months membership is free =)

all female avs would have to be verified as RL females by me, so i could steal all Trouts busines

banning someone from your land would also ban that account for 24 hours from the grid, teach people to be nice, and stay around nice people at the same time =)

support portal for premium would feature video nude models, the support wouldn't be any better, or less crowded, but people wouldn't mind the wait or service as much

anonymous free acounts would be limited to a separate grid, so that we could test evil upgrades on them a week in advance before going live on trackable residents

If it doesn't work, try a different hud attachment site, I've had weird snap back on the center, and never used the bottom ones so don't know

*laughs* this topic got my eye when I read the title. I'm used connecting the word "dictator" with SL by reflex since Linden Lab is currently holding SL under a full dictatorship, almost as bad as the worst ones seen in history. As for the topic question... is saying that if I ran SL I would do the exact opposite of what Linden does a good answer?

Dearly Darlings,

LAND

1) All sims would be 40+/- terraforming.

2) All PG sims will be in the same general area.

3) First land would be reinstated: 1024 meter lots with 234 prim. Current members land holdings would increase to include the 512 not accounted for.

4) No property subdivided smaller than said 1024 meters.

5) Any person attempting to subdivide property would be hanged, drawn an quartered. Remains would be scattered in the cornfield.

6) Any person wishing to sell land in a residential or commercial area must first obtain in writing statements from all residents in the sim that they:

a) have been offered the property at a fair price,
b)have opted to buy said property or have declined to purchase said property.

7) Rental Units NOT paying tier shall be governed by the following:

a) Rents obtained by landlords shall be held in escrow for 30 days by my treasury office. If a landlord willfull ends a lease by fraud in any fashion said person would be hanged, drawn and quartered. Remains would be scattered in the cornfield....further, all properties transferable or not of the deceased shall be obtained by me by a Bill of Attainder.

b) Proceeds of said properties will be used to pay for the state run orphanage. (More about this later...)

c) Any person failing to pay rent in a timely fashion will be placed in stocks in a public forum for a period of three days. All properties owned by said dead beat will be held in the treasury and sold at a 50% off yard sale to pay the landlord for fees owed.

d) A second incident would have the renter hanged, drawn and quartered. Remains would be scattered in the cornfield. All remaining property transerferable or not would be obtained by me by a Bill of Attainder. Proceeds of said properties will be used to pay for the manditory school for all childern in Second Life. (More about this later....)

Any properties abandoned to the Governor shall be offered to the residents within the same sim before being set up as New First Land.

9) The RL Linden responsible for tidying up sims would recieve a 15% salary increase and a sliding scale bonus for total amount of trash prim removed. He/She would have the capacity to work at home. (This would save on gas RL)

10) Current land holders of a 16 meters or less lot or lots shall be hanged, drawn and quartered. Remains would be scattered in the cornfield.

Well, as a clear list for me since I have very strong beliefs on what needs to be done with SL:

- Firstly, before anything of any kind, everybody would be given equal rights and equal respect. Such things as people being banned for how old or young they are behind their computer would be exterminated without blinking.

- People would be given their sploders back, and be left alone to use them at parties, with friends, as sploders where a very nice and perfect way of making L$'s, before it was shortly removed by Linden.

- At least 512sqm (if I remember my calculations right) of land would be given for free to anyone who requests it. I may still ask people to give a number of L$'s to buy it once, but without insisting for money monthly, and once it's theirs, it's theirs forever. Who wants more asks for more. I would also probably add additional things to make owning land something more easy and enjoyable.

- Instead of lazing around like a pig like Linden does, I would work on the viewer and fix the bugs (especially the crashing ones), and also keep adding new features more often, without any disgusting dark policies like "lets leave some bugs to have what to fix so people get the impression we do something" or "let's not make support for older computers cuz company X pays us to encourage people to upgrade from them to have SL work faster".

- When someone would complain about something, I would actually listen and care, instead of behaving like a complete a** to an entire community, and would treat everyone with respect. I would not be counting my dirty money on a big comfy chair while an entire community would be yelling at me I run SL like a piece of junk and behave like one. I would also leave easy ways of communications and asking for support, good services and a good functional web page.

- Open Grid / Open Sim would be released as soon as possible, so people had the power to create what they wanted and be happy there in their own groups, without having to get through my stuff and be dependent of my services and junk on everything they do.

- Optionally, the Linden Lab company could be -exterminated- for what they have done and everyone would be fired (or at least who deserves it), and their avatars would be crucified in-world in the public, as a full SL event

That's mainly my list, with probably many other small things I may have missed.

If I were dictator of SL, mainland and estate land buying and selling would be exactly the same.

1: Organic Prims would be implemented. Not that baked texture business they told us were organic prims
2: ACS would be immediately stripped of all holdings. AC would then be promptly exiled to the Gor Sims.
3: Go to CST since The Grand High Pooba (me) lives in that time zone.
4: Oil Skins, outlawed. Looking like a greased pig is.not.sexy.
5: Immediately remove half of the strip clubs in SL.
6: Bring back gambling...and tax it.
7: Zoning, big time. Also, if your house is ugly, your neighbor should be able to tell you.
8: Limit the amount of Voodoo Designs clubs on one Sim.
8a: Now, They're alright. Nothing against Voodoo either. Buy my first house was in the middle of 4 of his Ultra Violet clubs, house 2 ended up having one of his green and one of his red ones next to them after I moved in.
9: All Child AV's shall be crucified and arranged in pretty patterns that can be seen from my space station
10: Restrict Flight to Vehicle/Wing assisted only
11: Make stuff breakable. (If you continue to drive your car into the side of my house like some spectacular retard. It should break and you'll have to camp to get a new one you jobless monkey)
12: Making prim babies will be an offense punishable by something horrid. So horrid I have not even thought of it yet.
13: Ad farmers and Landbot owners will be randomly lined up and ballpunched until they promise to never do it again
14: Fashion Police will be dispatched. Excessive Bling will result in public humiliation.
15: All Europeans whining about downtimes will be force fed clocks...and be made to understand that not all of us are on their precious little schedule. And since LL is based in the US....COPE
16: Rules Subject to Change.
17: SL Police Wannabes, Mafia losers, and Gangsta imbeciles will be placed in one sim. They will be confined to that sim. And They will be gassed. Regularly.

Void, it worked for one of my HUDs (MystiTool) but not for another (SEMotioins AO). I'll try a different attach point, but I think the AO is just poorly designed (although I like the animations in it...just the HUD's failure to remember its location is annoying.)

Everyone would have to be their real life height and all giants would be sent to the salt mines.
