Suggestions for having both current and optional viewers available (Windows):

Current Viewer
1. Launch Regedit (not Regedt32)
2. Navigate to:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Linden Research, Inc
3. Highlight Linden Research, Inc
4. Export (File | Export) this selected branch (save it as secondlife.reg to your SecondLife folder) This reg file can be used to restore the registry settings for this client version.
5. Rename your Start | Programs | SecondLife to SecondLife.Curr
Optional Viewer
1. Download Optional viewer
2. Install Optional viewer into a separate folder other than the current version

Now you should be able to launch either one (note: probably want to clear your cache inbetween, since they will be sharing the cache).

To uninstall the two versions (if needed):
----------------------------------------------------

Uninstall the Optional viewer first
Merge the secondlife.reg file (saved in step (1) above) with your registry (will restore the current client version's registry settings so it can be uninstalled)
Uninstall the current version
Manually delete any left over folders/links

Seriously, LL, why don't you just bring back the FL program??? You had plenty of participants and very good feedback from many nice people. We were the guinea pigs and enjoyed to help!

Calling it Optional Viewer? I don't know what to think of it. I always try it out and report what I find wrong, so...

I do not like the inventory operation, it is not 'normal' as before. If you implement these changes to the standard version, many complaints will follow. Well, complaints will follow regardless. Anyway, before, when I right-click on object and Take it, with inventory window open, inventory scroll bar goes to location in inventory of the object I take. Now, it does not do anything. Well, the window scroll line moves a bump, but it does not highlight newly taken object. This makes difficult work when I gather pieces of multi-object build for rez-faux.

Not so much bugs, but changes and new features at whim of LL are not always positively accepted. Maybe create 1000 prims and link them and gather them to inventory to sort, THEN decide if those new changes are a good thing, or not!

Please bring back FL program, many of us liked using it and dont mind the risks involved!

The optional viewer works for me except there is one small change that I don't like.
It is notecard.
In past when entered landmarks, objects and photos I could delete or add more text.
Now they way it works and saves is different and where I can type and edit has changed.
It is minor thing but for those like me who write lot of notes it has made it slightly bit more annoying.

Grr, land sales search is still broken. (Going on 3 weeks now.) You can't sort results for mainland sales by anything other than L$/sq.m.

Is this in the JIRA? I've noticed it too and would vote for it...

Still borked .. this is really maddening!
Har, I think you misunderstood me. Once upon a time I could close a group chat and it would stay closed. Now it reopens as every single person 'leaves' the session. Presumably everyone else gets theirs reopened when 'Bilbo99 Emu left the session'. You'd think that might be a drain on the servers?

Dytska, did we get different optional clients? I was doing an inventory tidy up last night post-loading the optional and 'taken' objects still align the inventory entry for me. Do we now have Gremlins in SL along with the rest of the population?

True, that drives me insane! Especially when ppl use group chat just to say hi. Yesterday I kept warning ppl to stfu in group chat, I couldn't even have a normal conversation with my friends between the "Hello" "Hi" and "How are you"

It becomes rather confusing for me! Yesterday after upgrade of optional viewer, inventory behave normally. Today some time, taken objects did not as you say align in the inventory. It must be the Gremlins! I am sure tomorrow, everything is to be normal. But, tomorrow is Upgrade Day, so maybe not! Most of the time, even during FL times, I never had a problem. Just occurances of bugs already known about. I stay very busy building lately, so only problems associated with building are apparent to me.

I noticed something about the sort order of inventory folders changed. In a way it's good, but i can see how some might not like it. The original linden created folders in the inventory show up on top of the self created ones. So Animations - Trash all show up before your other folders like "My Avatar, or New Folder". I kinda like it this way.

This optional viewer is still crashing for me before I even get to the login screen. Does it need .NET 3?

Edit: Sometimes I think I am intelligent. Other times I realise I am just very stupid indeed. This was easily solved by updating my video drivers. Now, not only can I load the latest client, but I can also see ripples and light shining on the water, and it's no longer that dull ink colour. I had not updated my drivers since I've had this computer!
