From Wikipedia... the fount of all known things...

"Drama" may also be used as a slang term to refer unnecessary emotional turmoil, such as that created through social events or gossip.

It strange at least in media the big hit these days is Reality Shows, Talk shows like Jerry Springer you would think they survive because of the drama or the abllity to spy upon someone else's live.
With Second Life I guess there could be way of threatre of peeking into one's virtual life if there weren't so much zombified boredom, with splash of homophobes, egotistism and general seprateness, lack of connection with each other.
There definitely needs to be bit more to do in my opinion then there is and better way to connect. Personally I checked out the blogs, the other forums and most I have seen on other people's blogs is complaining or sales pitches mixed with some interesting information but most of it seems like huge ghost and zombie low populated world out here in Second Life of with very few things to do other then make content and sell content and to spend and buy Lindens.

Your World, Your Imagination. You shouldn't be so hung up on what others are doing.. As a great friend of mine says in his profile, "Make your own fun"

essentially he is saying he's tired of listening to people complaining "I'm bored."

I agree with him.

btw, your post is a great example of the non-theatrical drama which everyone is so pleased to discuss. The OP stated he is interested in Theatrical drama. I wish him the best in finding the groups who have fun and creating and performing in SL.

I have noticed that the more times a person declares they wish to avoid 'drama', the more likely they are to be the cause of it later on, hehe

Hehe , you are so right.

Yeap we are all in charge of creating our version of fun but I have only been here few months I am realizing whatever fun I am going to have is going to be solo act or that what it appears to be at this point.
I really hope we all are having tons of it and more to come in next year.
I hope the Orginal Poster finds others who are interested and support the SL threatical arts.

Because humans have a natural morbid curiousity to see people get kicked while they are down and race against each other and who comes out ahead.

I hate reality shows... except I watch Dog the Bounty Hunter and Disorderly Conduct though. But I won't lie:

*puts on shame hat* When I saw on a commercial for UFC reality show some dude getting kicked out and didn't say why... I watched. *passes shame hat*

I saw a commercial for an above-ground pool. It was thirty seconds long. You know why? Because that's the maximum amount of time you can depict yourself having fun in an above-ground pool - M.H.

You know, I'm sick of following my dreams, man. I'm just going to ask where they're going and hook up with 'em later. - M.H.

Dylan, I am Also Interested in working with a theatrical group. (I Was in a Drama Group, but got tired of all the whining and histrionics). If it's your Intent to start one, Contact me In World. I've been working Off and On with creating a Theatre, complete with sound system for projecting the Actors Voices to the Back Rows.
I Enjoy Shakespeare, and Gilbert and Sullivan (But the logistics behind doing a Musical, or Operetta are rather daunting) and also, I like some of the Niel Simon works (The Odd Couple)
Talk to me If you are interested further.

Angel.

I think that the no drama type people hate stage plays like Shakespear and stuff. I have no idea why they want to tell us about their literary tastes though.

Hmm, somewhat surprised no-one else has hit on this:

We are operators .. computer users .. using avatars in a virtual world .. to live our fantasies.

We're on a forum .. in a thread .. discussing using our avatars .. as actors .. in amateur dramatics.
Hmm, like virtuality squared LOL

Brain hurts .. need a lie down ... no .. a meal would be better!
Regards :)

Shakespeare wrote his works 350, or 400 years ago (Elizabethan period) so the English spoken word was a Very different beast back then Shakespeare actually Invented several words that are Now in Common English usage (Like the word "Twilight" to describe the light at dusk just as the sun had set). So, Understanding what is said takes a Little Knowledge. English is not my First language, so i Paid Much attention to the Origins of words, and not just thier meaning, so i actually have no trouble Understanding what Shakespeare is saying. The stories themselves are Excellent the Barbs exchanged between Petruchio and Katharine in the Taming of the Shrew are SO Naughty. :p Pity most people don't know what they are Missing.

So much in Defence of the Bard of Avon.

I was Building a Noh Theatre, to Give performances in the Traditional Japanese Format of short plays. The Plays, performed by Masked Players were only a Few Pages of scene, and usually degenerated into a Silly, or Ribald Joke. It was the Theatre of the Common Man and more often than Not ended up with the rogue of the piece being Chased, or Beaten with a stick. I was Also Looking at the Posibility of doing Kabuki, but again, the logistics of having the Music stymied me.

The Possibilities of a Live Theatre are Endless
-British Victorian Pantomime Theatre would be Fun, (No Pantomime does Not mean like pretending to be stuck in an Invisible Box) Panto's were Traditional stories like well known Fairy tales (Peter Pan is probably one of the most commonly done), But rewritten with Lots of topical, or contemporary Humor. Ad-Libbing was Freely encouraged, so no two performances were exactly alike. The story was usually told by a Sidekick Character, who Freely interacted with the audience, and encouraged structured audience participation.
-How about Vaudeville, from the late 19th, and Early 20th Centuries? a Multitude of acts of Comedy sketches, Acrobatics, and Music?
-Or, Vaudevilles more notorious Sister, Burlesque, where the theatre is more Raunchy, the Girls more Busomy, and there were strippers a Plenty.
-There was also the Morality Play. Usually involving the Girl, who had an aged Mother, and they owed a Mortgage, a Slimy Villain who Held the Mortgage, but was "Willing to come to an arrangement" ~Boo, Hiss~ and the Hero, who would save the day at just when All seemed Lost.
-If you want something more Highbrow, you could do Greek Classical. Also done with Masks Plays about the Old Gods, like Zeus, and Heraclese, and Thetys. "Deeds so Grand, and names so Lofty they sound like they Sh*t Marble" (Line borrowed from Amedeus).

Live Theatre would be Great. it has a Lot of Potential. If people can make SL TV shows, and do soap Operas and things, then Why not live theatre as well?

I like Shakespeare. I have no idea why they are protesting against him so much. Now if they said "human drama" instead of just drama I might have a better idea of what they are talking about.
