BTW, there are a number of reporters in SL who *are NOT* German. That TV report could have just as easily been featured on CNN or any other tabloid TV news show (take your pick) in any country.

True..all media types a of low moral character as far as I am concerned. Worry about real world issues. There are plenty more serious than a Goddamn Video Game.

I (and my Alt Ishtara who was recently banned from Resident Answers) happen to be german. In the name of all open-minded Germans who view avatars as mere costumes.

.

Well as a "close-minded" german who happens to be against sexual ageplay with avatars in the form of kids. I paid a visit to your store and saw nothing that really bothered me or I was against if adults wanted to use it, odd how "close minded" I am.

Is Axel any relation to Jerry Springer?
Thanks for the post. And please take no offense at any insults I have hurled or will hurl on this matter. They are not directed at you, or your Comrades.

No offense taken :) I can understand it that people are upset now, since I'm upset myself. I don't know if the two Springers are related in any way.

Well, if nothing there offended you, you can't be really close-minded :) I'm sure that ARD reporters would be outraged about a prim horse offered as a sex toy, since bestiality also happens to be illegal here. Or about products like the "Human Toilet". And that's exactly why I'm so concerned. I'm also not into sexual ageplay and even find it repulsing, but I always keep in mind that there are adult persons behind the avatars, who share a mutual interest and don't harm anyone, but happen to have a fetish that others find disgusting.

I'm sure that many would find my online fetishes (who aren't the same as my RL fetishes) disgusting too. BDSM, toilet games, bestiality; some might say I and my business partners are sick persons and a possible danger for other humans and innocent animals. Many germans are more concerned with animal rights than with human rights. If a virtual child is a real child, a virtual pet is a real pet.

Our grandparents already kept quiet once, when personal freedoms were restricted. No one spoke up when german jews were detained, since everyone secretly hated them. Just as the majority of SL players secretly hate ageplayers. I'm pretty sure that freethinkers, political opponents and gays later wished they had opened their mouth and protested before it was too late, when they ended up in the same camps.

Whenever a minority is treated like criminals even if they don't harm anyone, it's time to do something about it before the next minority is trampled on. No matter if we dislike the minority in question or disagree with them. Alas, one needs to be a part of a minority oneself (like a bisexual BDSM lifestyler in my case) to develop a sensitivity for the rights of other minorities. The opinion of the "normal" public is easily controlled by pointing at a group of people and saying "they're evil because", as the ARD did.

Channels John Cleese as Basil Fawlty :"Don't say anything to upset the Germans."

No no NO it's "don't mention the war". Shortly followed by the greatest line in British comedy in the 20th century, cf: "Don't tell him, Pike"

I have noticed that there is a considerable faction in germany who really don't like speaking or working in English, at all. Even if they understand it, they won't use it and they won't show any sign of having any interest in you. This is a very distinct tribe from the anglophile Krauts, who will chatter merrily away without any problem... but there is a good strong reason why the UK Airline "British Airways" is branded, in Germany, as "BA Deutsch"

"Wie gehts" is the most useful phrase with the more prickly german - you can then apologise profusely for your poor german and break the barrier just a bit. Unless they are Bavarian, in which case you should say "Gruess Gott" (it's actually Gru-umlaut-ss but if your keybaord doesn't have the umlaut you should drop in the e). Students of language may get suitably creeped out that this phrase is remarkably close to "Allah-u-akhbar" in purpose...

"Avatars Caught Fornicating In Privacy Of Own Home By Reporters" seems kind of like a boring news headline. I don't think we have much to worry about. These reporters have bigger fish to fry.

Am I being paranoid but I got a shock last night? I was in my house, on a private island, entertaining a young lady when I was made aware of a person within a sort distance from me, (by use of the mini-map and the beacon tool). I cammed outside and saw a female whose profile told me she was German. Any attempt to talk to her was met with silence except when I asked if she spoke English, to which she said “no German” (in German). I then donned my Babbler and asked the questions again but still no answer. My computer froze then and I logged out and back in and she had gone.
I did a search for her and sent her an IM via her profile, asking her to explain her actions and why she was on a private island, all in German via my babbler, but still no reply, even though it appeared she was on line. If she was innocently looking around why did she not answer? After reading the Blogg I hope I am not starting to see foreign reporters under the bed.

Even if it's a private estate, people can still visit your island unless you lock it out. If you didnt' do that why are you complaining?

And how do you own an island without payment on file?

Where are all these paranoid people from.

Well this person wasn't in your house, maybe they just clicked the map and teleported there. If they couldn't see you as you were in your house with someone, maybe they didn't even realise you were talking to them. They could have also realised it wasn't a public place and been looking at the map or search for somewhere else to go and not seen your messages.

Why did you find her and IM when she had left your land? A private island doesn't mean nobody can land there, unless you bar people.

She could have rented land there. Plots on islands are the only option to get land for an unverified resident.

You can buy land on a Private Island with being verified. In the current sense of the word anyway. The poster did not say they owned the island.

Quote: And how do you own an island without payment on file?

I did not say i owned a private island, plots can be rented without a premium account

Quote: Why did you find her and IM when she had left your land? A private island doesn't mean nobody can land there, unless you bar people.

I did contact her after she left and this gave rise to my main complaint. Why could she not have responded and just said she had made a mistake or was looking to rent or what ever, but to just continue to ignore me was i think down and out bad manners. Even if she could not understand what i was saying a response in german, (or french or italian ), would have made a difference. She was born on 02/01/07 and her payment info had been used so ignorance of IMs could not be blamed.

I was not trying to to infere that german reporters where any worst than other nationalities but that it was just funny how this happened on the same day as the blog reported a german news report.

But the blog is lagging behind as it was not updated until a bit after this info hit LL. So you should be worried about what us Germans were up to on your land two days or so before the blog posting!

Much discussion over those events down at the biergarten I can assure you ;)

Didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the thread, but babbler doesn't work in IMs.

I (and my Alt Ishtara who was recently banned from Resident Answers) happen to be german. In the name of all open-minded Germans who view avatars as mere costumes, I sincerely apologize for our partially theocratic government and our fascist media.

It's really embarrassing that we didn't manage to change altoo much since a Charly Chaplin lookalike ruled our country. We still have a tendency to outlaw free speech (points at the blasphemy paragraph in our constitutional law). There's even religious education in our public schools, and in Bavaria (kinda the german equivalent of Texas) you'll find a scantily dressed guy with a spanish first name nailed to a cross at every street corner. No wonder our moral views are a bit odd.

The sensationalist rag who started the whole shit is called AvaStar, a virtual... newspaper (doesn't really deserve the name) financed by the Axel Springer Verlag, infamous for their rag "Bild Zeitung". They always made a big deal of ageplay and other "scandals", which finally drew the knuckleheads from the ARD to SL. Now they have the cheek to IM sex shop owners and ask them for their opinion on the new age verification. Geez.

Can anyone get a list of people working as AvaStar reporters? I'd like to ban these goons from my property. They should be forced to wear the tag "Deutsche Sittenpolizei", as well as brown uniforms. Well, most of them seem to be on unverified accounts, so they should already be banned by my land settings.

Don't feel bad some Australian media shows would have submitted similar oversensationalised, biased reporting too as I suspect most other countries also have the capability, it was just the Germans got in first.

And remember through all of this I don't think the German Government has actually made a statement yet anyway.

eek. lol.

Well, then the journalists would have to videotape a case by case depiction of sexual ageplay in the homes of residents. That would most likely end in the avatars in question being banned. In the states that sounds horrific and an invasion of privacy, but LL guarantees no privacy for anyone in the TOS. Keep in mind the property in question is still owned by LL. It is a mere simulation of private property with a home on it, and therefore does not hold the same rights as a RL home/property. The headline does make a point. I'm sure verification will be grid-wide and mandatory at this rate. I don't think we need it to that extent though. All I want is a pop-up screen that states you must be 18 to enter, or the blame and responsibility is on the offender morally and legally. (in so many professional words) Isn't that possible?

I didnt mention sexual ageplay actually

A grown man in an adult av cybering a girl who is 16 but told him she was 19 and using an adult av wouldnt be sexual ageplay.

But it would be Sexually explicit content provided to an unverified person who happend to be a minor.

Assume the man in question didnt know - he wouldnt be at fault - but the tabloid journalist wouldnt care.

Look hard enough among unverifeds and start spreading lindens around and Im sure a Tabloid Journalist can find a RL minor who does this.

I agree I think age verification will end up mandatory.

Before that though I see them requiring all sex animations to be used in only adult land.
