Someone mentioned a notarized letter from their attorney. I think that would be a good idea.
It also made me think of another idea (less serious) - how about we all just get our mothers to write us notes?
That is, those of us who are young enough to have mothers still living, which counts me out.
Perhaps I could get my daughters to sign a note for me? One of them is 20, so she is of legal age according to LL, so that ought to be okay . . . I will get my daughter to write a note saying it's okay for me to play this 18+ game and be allowed into all adult parts of it. That should do it.

coco I suggested having a document drawn up by attorney. The idea of having my mother write a note crossed my mine but like you my mother has passed away. I had to age verify my daughter and wondered why can't LL work backwards. If was under age that means I gave birth at the age of two Keep fighitng the good fight. We need to sink this idea. Rox

From: Annabelle Vandeverre From the Q&A:
Do I have to pay for verification? Premium Residents will access the verification system for a nominal fee (<L$10) as part of their subscription. Basic users will be charged a larger fee to verify their age, can upgrade to Premium to access the system, or simply decline to verify their age and continue enjoying the areas of Second Life that don’t contain adult content. Theyre CHARGING for ppl to comply with their new rule? Insane.

Who will pay for the attorney? I don't know about other countries, but those people are expensive over here... You already get a bill if you dare to open the door to their office. And concerning our mothers.... I as 43 year old woman feel a bit silly to ask my mother to write a note. Ah well, apart from that she doesn't know english and has no idea about computers or Internet... not even to mention SL. Morwen.

For me it is not the point of age verification, but the way how. I just don't trust "third parties" easily in this. On the news website I read daily ( www.nu.nl) they have a section dedicated to the Internet. Often, very often you can read there how companies and organisaties that are handling very confidental information lose that information, get hacked because their security measures where not good or that they are forced to hand over information to "governmental organisations".... There lays the problem for me. As said before, my credit card I can block with one phone call and I am insured for missuse of it. But with passports and alike it is bit different. And people are often warned NOT to transmit that kind of data over the Internet. Morwen.

From: Sys Slade How they can claim to have UK coverage, when neither a drivers license nor government issued ID are compulsory in the UK (yet)?
Wonder if they'll accept my library card, which is about the only "official" ID I have. LOL, Sys - I'm in the same boat. I can't drive because of disability, my passport has expired and there's no point in renewing it because I'm not well enough to go anywhere. My NI number was issued in the days when the suffix letter had nothing to do with the quarter in which you were born (my birthday is in March: my suffix letter is C). Furthermore, they weren't automatically issued before the 16th birthday in those days - you applied for one. Even if Integrity accepts an expired passport, am I happy about giving the details? In this age of terrorism and ID theft - no I'm not. Hmmm - I remember the 60s - is that proof enough? Oh, wait ... no it's not: if I remember them it means I wasn't there, LOL.

From: Morwen Bunin Haha... yes. I already see the converstation: *walks into the house of her mother* Me: Mom? Could you do me a favour? Mother: Yes dear. What can I do for you, Jo? Me: Well, you know I have computer at home, don't you? Mother: *nods* That awful and difficult thing Me: Ermm... yes. Mother: Anyway, what can I do for you? Me: Hmmm... I would like you to write a note that shows that I am over 18 Mother: *Frowns* But you we born in 1965... that is way over 18 by now. Me: Uhh... yes, I know. But you see.... I would to do certain things on my computer where for it needs to be proven that I am over 18 Mother: *raises eyebrows* (and when she does that it gets dangerous) Mother: What kind of things? Me: Ohh... nothing special. A bit sex, porn and a like... all in good taste.... Mother: CHILD... GO WASH YOUR MOUTH!!!!! I WILL PRAY NEXT SUNDAY FOR YOU..... AGAIN.... Oh yes, I see it all happening that way Morwen. LOL

Never mind, bud.tv isn't just a site about alochol, it's apparantly a media network ( http://adage.com/digital/article?article_id=115068). I did like this sentence . From: someone Access to the site is restricted to users who can provide the name, birth date and zip code of a legal drinker (ideally, themselves)

I found this little gem of information on the 'Integrity' website, I think the word 'indemnifies' sums up LL's keenness to use them quite nicely.
Insured and Guaranteed (merchants using Integrity, are indemnified for violations of laws relating to underage access)

Sorry, if this goes through i am out of here. i already had one bad experience with security when the VA lost a laptop filled with date of births, SSNs, names and addresses for several million veterans including me. If a government agency can't seem to keep confidential information safe, why should i trust a third party company? Nevermind the fact that i am very wary of giving out personal information anyway, especially to complete strangers.
So, LL can do this if they want, but i will not be around to play. SL is not worth messing up my RL.

From: VooDoo Bamboo I think this is one of the best moves SL has made and I can't wait for it. They need to tighten the door on SL from the little kiddies. To be honest I think the only people getting ticked off about it and really throwing a fit are the under aged people in here that now know their days are limited. I'm against it and I have four kids. My concern is for the economy of SL and people's privacy and the fact that info like this could be stolen and has already.

http://blog.secondlife.com/2007/05/04/age-and-indentity-verification-in-second-life/From the FAQ listed with the above blog entry: #3 How will it work? Residents will provide a few simple details about their identity – generally, name, date of birth, and address. US Residents will be asked to provide the last four digits of their Social Security Number, while non-US Residents may need to provide a passport or national ID number.
#6 What documents do I need to prove my age? Exact documents may vary depending on your country of residence but may include: Passport Driver’s license Name Address National ID number, such as a Social Security number

Yes, they may include those things, depending on the country you're in.
That's pretty vague.
edit: oh.. you're US.. Are you worried about the last 4 digits of your SSN?

I'm a US citizen but the country I live in doesn't use that. I'm concerned this will be like age verification in Europe, which effectively keeps out everyone who's not from that country. What's next, certified letters at the post office to insure you're legal? Because that's what its come down to in parts of Europe. I've had to age verify in the past, but by and large, forms haven't worked for me. I've had to manually send my information. The forms usually ask for forms of ID for this country that I don't have. I don't have a passport or national ID from the country I live in, just a residence permit, which is not something i'm going to list on a form, and they won't have it there anyway. (because people like to make frauds of them, too, and immigration is a hotter issue here than whether someone sees a naked body) So LL better have other methods, because by and large, expats in other countries are kicked bad by these systems.

I live in a glass house and have nude paintings on the walls. One of my partners is a Neko (female cat). My other partner is a satyr. I am a Neko. Is this a threat to National and commercial US security? I will fight this fight against age verification with the rest of you. I will supply no one with information that is potentially harmful to my lovely REAL country should said information fall into the wrong hands. It is unfair of Linden Labs to expect us to compromise each of our national securities in such a way.

I pay for a membership with my credit card. That should be verification enough. If it isn't then fuck SL and fuck Linden Labs. I refuse to give out my social security number (and not to mention paying for the privilege of giving it out) to anyone who isn't my bank or an official with a government/law enforcement agency.

Any one besides me remember that Social Security cards used to have printed right on the front Not to be used for identification purposes? What happens when LL discovers kids are using their parent's ID like they use their credit cards? Are they going to require DNA samples next?
