From: Justin Slade The casino's have hurt and if you don't think so, then you need to take your made-up brain to a made-up shrink. Yeah yeah yeah. The wagering ban hurt the SL economy. Yes, we know already. You know what else we know? We know it doesn't matter. Have you actually looked at the economic stats and the value of the L$? It's still holding steady. Which means the ban didn't really effect the L$. What the ban did effect (and is part of teh economy) is the price of land. Yes it's dropping. No duh! How many cansino owners have put their land up for sale to recoup losses or just cash out? LL has already started to correct this by reducing the amount of new sims going in per day. And really, the price of land was getting stupid anyway. The short term decrease in land prices is only until the land glut from the casino sales are over. Then it will rise a bit and stablise again. The banks are another story and truthfully, they have less impact on the economy than a plywood prim. Every bank in SL could close tomorrow and I doubt 99% of the Residents would even notice. So I'd tell people that are freaking out about this to take their made-up terror and go see a made-up economist, or made-up buisness manager to teach them about economics and social impact on buisnesses. Or to put it bluntly for that moron at Forbes; SL isn't going anyway anytime soon. ~Jessy

From: Charles Street Now i'm pretty sure this will be deleted quickly by a Linden but check this out... 1) We don't delete threads or posts. Lock? Yes. Delete? No 2) The topic is actually worthy of note; carry on. Forbes is slow on the news, this was last weeks news (or was it the week before, I loose track so easily).

One of the funnier things of that "review" was Dave (teh reporter) praising WoW as a "social venue".
Now, don't get me wrong, I know WoW has the guilds and such and people chat and talk and socialize, but the game is for RPG. Fighting and advancing levels and skills. The socializing comes with talking about such with others, planning events and quests and gathering parties to complete those quests. And yes, to chat with your friends about other stuff, but that aspect isn't the main or even a huge part of WoW.
That the reporter would think it is, speaks volumes of his "social aptitude". Makes me wonder if he's ever even kissed a girl before. And no, Dave, you're mom doesn't count *snickers*

~Jessy LOL Jessy, you are probably correct in your observation. To me SL is an extension of RL. I have little interest in role playing war games. If people want to attract and keep women in their games, they need to provide us with things that interest us. SL does this more than WoW. At least for me.

I made a character in my boyfriend's worlds of warcrafts game and i was very dissapointed by the limited amount of character customization. But i got over it and started playing and still couldnt get past the point of endlessly beating up the little rabbits or whatever those little creature things were. I mean, how many of these little rabbits can one beat up before saying, O-Kay what's the point here?

An old boyfriend had a WoW account; sometimes I watched him run around fighting/killing stuff, and to me, it just seemed like the most boring thing on the planet. He loved it though, and thought SL extremely tedious. Takes all types I guess!

I would be embarrassed to have that 'dave' guy working for me. I am astonished that Forbes has him working for them. Clearly he had a negative attitude to begin with and went on a self fulfilling prophecy crusade. He struck me as a person that is so aware of his own lack of talent that he tries to conceal this glaring fact by perpetually being cynical of others. I thought his assertions were incredibly shallow, anyone can mention a few isolated facts and spin it negative through emphasis. SL is a tool, it is a user created world thus sex and gambling are not reflections of SL as a platform, they are reflections of what us humans bring into it. Anywhere you go in the real world that is open to the public there will be a large percentage of those whose first impulse will be to check their options for short term gratification. This 'dave' guy reminds me of an episode of Radio WRQ in Cincinatti. When the boss Mr. James hires a "Computer Visionary" that he met at a conference. The guy didnt actually know anything about computers nor did he even own one, (but he was saving up). But he predicted they would be really Big!

Huh. A Linden. Delete that? Moderation would have to jump through a whole other hoop of lameness before that could happen. Anyway, even if they did see it, I'm sure they'd get this far... "gambling is really one of the only things people do on that site..." ..before realising this guy is talking through his arse cheeks without so much as a piece of flannel in between to dampen the spray. Second Life. "A site? " Sheesh. If he were to say that on this forum he'd be torn apart faster than five naysayers could post another ten sky is falling threads.

So why isn't LL actually doing anything about the negative press they keep getting? None of the negative articles I've ever seen actually quote a Linden or anyone who could give any perspective on the matter. It looks like borderline slander to me.
They HAVE to know that this will keep people from coming and checking it out. Hell, I had to convince my brother to come in and actually check SL out using the "there is a huge Star Wars RP community in there as well as Warhammer" angle! Before that he was convinced it was naked people doing it everywhere...which it kinda is, but hey!
Anyway, LL can't keep ignoring this for long.

Anyway, LL can't keep ignoring this for long. Sure they can. Acknowledging bad press is like admitting you're worried about it. Why do you think they're so silent on the forums. Better to rise above the name-calling then to be mired down in it. Even if some of the name-calling cuts a little deep. They can pass it all off as individual opinions, at least until someone attempts to compete with them in their own special niche.

This is a warning for anyone that has accounts with a bank that has stock market. A few days ago they announced that they halted trading on several companies that haven't posted announcements in the last thirty days.
then they announced their going to review all the companies in their system. Maybe it's because I mentioned to the owner that I traded for the asking price and they didn't buy, but would buy if below listed price.. Of course that's Stock fraud..
Anyway, he went on to tell me they have FIVE days to respond and if they don't, action will be taken which could include delisting them. If that happens..YOU will loose your money. Of course he told me the same thing GINKO told us. Be patient and wait..hmm wait till they gather all the money up and run.
Well..the end of FIVE days is coming.. I have withdraw all my Funds. I can't tell you all what to do..I just wanted to tell you what I know..
If you would like to know the company...IM me.. But you should of figured out what company it is.. Good luck.. I'm through with Banks on SL...

The show you're talking about was called Newsradio. The other show you have in mind, though not the one with Mr. James and the visionary was WKRP in Cinncinati, from the '70s. I don't know where WRQ comes from. On-topic, I haven't seen the video, but it sounds like it is like others I've seen, where some lazy reporter creates an account, spends an hour or two in-world and then thinks he knows enough to report that SL is a seedy underworld populated by deviants and low-lifes. I am not sure why the media seems to be suddenly obsessed with this, but it is.

That forbes piece surely is just trolling, you can't tell me anyone is supposed to take that seriously. A WoW player with a head like a pressed ham declaring the end of days... Perhaps his gaming skills are as bad as his reporting skills and it's making him bitter and twisted.
I'm sure all the analysts watching that review are scratching their heads as much as I am. Where was the analytical data? Where was the fundamental research? Where was proverbial pie chart?!?!? Nudda, nothing, zero pre-work went into that story, just some newb sitting on his freckle having a whinge and sharing his "elightened" view of the state of virtual worlds. Well done forbes guy, you are the star wars kid of the IT reporting world.

From: Fletcher Rodgers Well done forbes guy, you are the star wars kid of the IT reporting world. ROFLMAO!!!!! OW!! Do you know how much it hurts to snort Dr Pepper? >.- And you owe me a new roll of paper towels to clean up my keyboard. Back on the guist of the roll of teh thread: A SL "Bank"will never be until LL backs one. That'll happen about....ohhh....never or so. A "bank" in SL is jsut another Resident trying to make a buisness. Like any buisness here, some are legit and some are scams. Some are well run, wile others, not so well run. The big difference is that "banks" in SL deal with your L$ and due to the terms of the ToS and such rules and regs that surround SL, you have no way of recourse with LL if you voluntarily give someone else your L$. There is no "court" to go to, nor any "contract" that is legaly binding to take to the non-existant court. "SL Banks" are in a catch 22. They won't be trusted until they are used for a long time, but they won't be used until they are trusted for a long time. *stuffs her L$ in her bra and continues on her happy way* ~Jessy
