The guy is an idiot. "Gambling was really one of the only things that people do on that site, that and cyber sex..."

I dismissed anything he had to say after that...

I guess I am out of loop.
I don't have cyber or pixel sex.
I always found that gambling was waste of money.

Another report full of half-truths and limited, stilted information. Their so called expert even calls all Second Life users 'Losers'. They also make it seem like Ginko was an official Linden Lab bank, and not a 3rd party investment service.

News agencies and reporters are just too square and status quo to really understand SL. They continue to sensationalize the headlines in an attempt to make their limited knowledge of the situation into something that will sell ads.

He didn't say that cybersex and gambling are the only things people do in SL.........he said there are lots of things for people to do in SL that are not those two activities. He said that virtual sex and gambling were major to the SL economy.........and that is a fact.

Hate to say it but its true.... SL is so about sex sex sex. I do not think it was ever designed to be that but the fact remains... It is. This is the one reason while they will never ban it, if they did the amoount of people on SL would drop well below the 50% mark. Its the one reason I only use SL for business now. Other then that, I have been done with SL. Went back to just playing Battlefield 2

Maybe he should go the extra mile and actually do some research before he reports again. Or maybe he should consider going to work for Fox News. Fact checking is so 20th Century.

Watched the video clip yesterday. Just another dooms day report from
someone who sounded like visited Second Life for a few hours.

Some of what he said was true, but also obvious. Personally I would
have like to hear some reportage from companies like SL Exchange
who have a good sense of economics outside of sex and gambling
expenditures.

I do notice on the main page of secondlife.com that transactions are
down from the average pre-gambling ban, SL is still doing over a million
US dollars a day in transactions...if the numbers are right.

The guy basically thinks we all are losers anyway for being or spending money in SL.

It's on Forbes or god's sake. The "losers" are the corporations who have set up shop in SL. He was talking about maybe 200 hits a week for those sims.........not a very good hit rate. He was talking about those corporations being sold a bill of goods about SL being next generation internet (you know, the same crap we've been sold) and finding out it ain't so. It's then that he states some facts..........for a great big majority of the residents in SL it is all about cybersex and gambling. How many on this forum have stated how they shun the corporations coming to SL? A lot of you........and some who have posted on this very thread too. That is not the enviroment that businesses who pay attention to Forbes.com are looking for.

His reporting was accurate from a business stand point. Get all huffy and bent out of shape.......it's facts. Dispite all the high and mighty statements on the forums about SL being "creative" and a place to "build your future", it's a game to 95% of the residents. That fact is what the report boiled down to. SL is not ready for big business. Forbes.com is about big business.

You know... I am amazed at how so many people are trying to pretend that SL is not about to fall on its face. All these news reports are crazy and don't know what they are talking about.... Yeah right. To be honest they are right on the money. SL's two big things are gambling which is now gone and sex. Thats it! Think I am crazy... Go look at SLExchange and tell me what the top items are that sell... Sex items. Who just filed a law suit in the federal courts and what was it over... Sex items in SL. Everything in SL for the most part revolves around sex. Like it or not its true. I just think its time to stop pretending that none of this is happening. I know people have claimed the sky is falling in the past and they do it alot however I think this this time it is!

Fact of the matter is, like it or not this news report was right on the money. Hell me myself I have even stopped going in SL like I used to. If I did not own my business most likely I would not go at all. Don't get me wrong SL has alot to offer however most people are not using the other things SL has to offer. Its just a meat market in VR land at this point and it will end up coming to a end.

This report even confirmed which I have thought that SL would rather turn SL into a corp business tool then anything esle. Say its not true all you want because the true colors are starting to show. Why do you think it is they really don't give two cents about us in the world? All they care about at this point is the corps coming in. A ton of 3D type worlds have done this in the past. Look at Traveler!. It thrived in the early 90s, hell even MTV used them for their chat system then they turned their back on the users and started to target the corps instead now... They sold the company and its DOA. Only long time people who can't let go hang out there. Its like waste land.

You remember the old cowboy movies where it shows a ghost town and the ball of dried grass goes blowing by.... Thats SL's future. Sad but true.

Well back to playing BattleField 2! And to think... This was only a one time payment of $49.99 for the game and no issuses!

There is alot of other things to do besides CyberSex, unfortunatly other activities are nto as well visited.

I believe you more or less paraphrased what the reporter reported. And that is a fact.

Linden Labs will use ANYTHING to pump up thier numbers and pump up thier economy and they only care about themselves. They don't care about what really makes Second Life the beautiful place that it is and that is the PEOPLE in it.

They don't care about the people. Thier actions in almost all matters prove they chase only the almighty dollar and they will throw away people the instant that dollar is in jeopardy.

And the report is right, the amount spent in world went in HALF since the ban. I am willing to bet one way or another 90% of the rest spent in world, the remaing spent is directly or indirectly related to the sex industry.

And that is fine, I'm all for sex. But I am also quite sure that 90% of transactions are done through PayPal and PayPal will only turn a blind eye for so long.

Soon LL will decide between sex and PayPal. We can all only hope they decide to quit using PayPal because if they don't then I can guarantee you sex will be next and Linden Labs will throw away everyone in that industry without blinking once.

They just don't understand that thier greatest asset in here is the community and they are losing any trust they ever had.

LLABS is pissing off now the common user and larger multi island users. Why? because they have new players The larger more powerful higher paying companies. Its so typical of llans to just throwaway anyone. But not after they users all their monies, assets and or abilities to over sell this game. If its not LLABS stepping on people that helped them build this game as it is today, its now llabs flagging and totally upsetting long term tier payers as well.
