Jack Linden just sent "Philip" a friend request.

Or is that "Jack"?

*facepalms*
.

OOOO maybe you two can get together and plot a coup to overthrow M.

I'm going to sign up as PrimSaver Linden

You could make a fortune selling low-prim furniture to avatars in other virtual worlds.
Places like WOW are an untapped market for this - for some reason. :)

Some of the other VWs have applications to pull profile information into the AU accounts. I would not be surprised if that gets sorted pretty quick: I know the code exists, just needs to get applied here. Once that is done we can at least be assured when a person is using a legit SL profile.

The "I Hate" feature is pretty cool. Nothing like introduction of such a negative emotion into social networking. :P

Of course, now, if the REAL Phillip Linden (is there such a thing, any more?) wants an AU account, he'll have to go begging to their support desk to reactivate the name for him.

Awwwww.

I'm not a lawyer, or a qualified amateur, and I haven't read the SL branding rules in the last few minutes so my memory of what they are is not fresh enough to work from, and I don't feel like reading them again at the moment, so I'm not going to offer an opinion.

I will say that I have a forum, not at AU, called Second Life, and I have a wiki called Second Life Users Guide, which I've had since 2006, and I've not had any contact from Linden Lab about it.

I may other sites which use "Second Life" in their titles. If I do, I don't remember them.

No. I just registered as Philip Linden.

Kid you not.

Everybody, you probably have 3 days to register as the Linden of your choice.

I SO wanted to friend a Philip Linden imposter. "He" doesn't come up in search. Am I missing something?

Slowly they're surrounding us with more and more time-eating monsters. Nom nom nom...

Dashboard/flog, Facething, the monumental-chickadee globewide mumbling sphere named twitter, AUauauauau...

If I would join all this, I could open an rl-office and hire 4 Secretaries and Administrative Assistants, just to have some time to do something inworld and even then it would eat my time and concentration, energy and enthusiasm, because I would have to notice what my clercs reporting to me from the different mumbling spheres.

So, no, I will not step into the trap.

Are the avatar names Avatars United not required to be unique?

Or is Immy's example using some tricks with character sets or some other trick?

curious, are all "friends" manually added?

From: Brenda Connolly
I wouldn't be surprised if Wally had no idea this was coming..it would be consistent with past action.

and why "conversation mangers" don't last long in LL... they're public targets with no support from within... you can't manage anything if you don't have the damn information.

From: Ceera Murakami
Oh, look at that... To get them to DELETE my account, they require "sending an email to info@avatarsunited.com specifying your name, user-name, email address and telephone number." Which means that to get my account WIPED, I have to provide MORE information than I provided to sign up? No. They are NOT getting my real name or my phone number for their data mining. I'll just abandon the account, and never use it again.

that's a bad sign to be sure...

as I remember it, they use pigeons in Africa...

PS the original question about the coconut? the logical first question is how much does the coconut weigh?

A LL Communication/Conversation Manager is the equivalent to a newly minted 2nd Lieutenant in Vietnam.......a very short lifespan.

You guys be careful over there...it's evil I tell you. It will suck your soul right out of you. It will turn all you geeks into blithering idiots in not time.

Oh the things they should be doing to this app so that it becomes really useful . . .

1) A direct and necessary link between SL names and AU names, so that we are not being impersonated by someone else.

2) A way to send AU invites out to people on your SL friends

3) A way to relatively seamlessly access AU in-world (which presumably will require an upgrade of the SL browser?)

4) A way to link in-world groups to AU groups

5) Some of the functionality of the current SL dashboard would be nice . . .

6) A way to message people from one's friends list (ONLY!) in-world from inside AU, or send group notices from an AU group to its SL counterpart.

7) A link to Xstreet of some sort?

And other stuff a few people have mentioned, or will undoubtedly come up with.

What I DON'T think is really need is a lot of the kind of crap that currently clogs FB's arteries: "applications" that allow you to send martinis to your friends, or quizes, or garbage like that. I don't need to be able to play "Tiny Empires" in AU.

I like the blog application . . . it has some potential if it is more fully developed.

I hope you're wrong. That would be rather sad.

Unless the focus of this app is upon the interface WITH SL, it will indeed become just a monumental waste of time. I really hope they are going to build some special functionality into it: otherwise, it's an anemic FB with cartoons.

Interesting . . . something that they may want to change. I notice that we can interact directly with people on the Teen Grid here. And that a few of the kids on the TG are using RL pics for their avatars.

Looking at the achievements page has got me wondering:

How long until someone creates an SL achievements app?

Never had an interest in social networking, real or virtual. I remember (and hated) the friendship web from the dead Sims Online, that would show everyone all your friends and all their friends and so on. I never saw the point to that except for people who really had way to much time on their hands and just had to be in everyone elses business.

But back on topic... My fear about this new aquisition is that some brilliant residents in the augmentationist camp will pervert it into a Match.com for SL. That the virtual will, naturally in their eyes. be replaced with the actual and those of us not willing to use SL as a dating ad will be labeled as having something to hide. Well i do have something to hide. It is my privacy.

Let's see what can of worms LL has unleashed on the community. It will be interesting to see how this gets abused.

How does this improve my Secondlife? Is it just another distraction so I forget about all the issues still unresolved with SL?
