cool thanks kep. i'm better than most noobs too i dont beg or other type of common nooberies

i think the main attraction of SL to me is its easy to find players I can relate to, unlike say star wars galaxies where the only common ground is ppl who like(ed) a 30 year old half ass movie made into a failed MMORPG. from my observation so far SL is more an expression than a game which isnt exactly a bad thing.

LOL- I *knew* I was setting myself up for one of these comments.

What do you expect with a name like Escaped Loon... :p

I joined to check it out, to write about it. However, I'm starting to get sucked in to the point where I purchased a piece of land, to then build some objects, to then sell them, as I am already 3D cgi designer (with low-poly experience) in RL.

However, where I ended up for land was a little sad. You look around and you see garbage everywhere -- you don't see the stuff you saw in the pictures in that magazine you read about SL.

However, two days ago a person messaged me (actually he posted in this very thread already) and invited to show me around and had me watch a video. It blew me away. SL is bigger than you think, and digs into RL deeper than you think.

He teleported me to places that are the real deal -- premium designs, with premium traffic. On one hand, im glad to have finally seen the stuff I've been looking for, but on the other hand it took a person to help me find it -- a person that is well connected, and owns/runs whole sims, or/and is connected to partners that own them.

He said most of these sims (regions) are private, so I'm not sure whether to post them or not. However, I have to tell you about the one sim where he had me watch this video. "Text 100" -- if you find that place, teleport there, and at the starting room there should be two TV screens. Watch the video on the right one.

Nice I feel better now and one of the guns I bought I'm very stoked to just click on it instead chat to it to change its fire, ammo, etc. Could you elaborate somemore on the differences between free and bought items like an example of how the bought is better in whichever case? Obviously the drop down menu was worth buying for its convience but can you provide another example?

Yes you're right. So far figuring that part out has been the hardest part of the game for me. I came from Planetside and Star wars Galaxies but I'm not complaining about your game I like it actually, enough where I have not logged onto Sony in over a week, I just can't exactly pinpoint what it is I like about SL or what I want to do yet but yea.. I am entertained none the less.

I don't think anybody can quite pinpoint what it is they like about SL. That's part of its charm!

P.S. Shoes. That's the ticket.

Generally SL does lean much more strongly toward adult personal interactions and creative expressions than to violent passtimes.

There is a lot more to do that has to do with meeting people from all over the world, making friendships, experiencing virtual exchanges of affection, building things and selling things. There's not anywhere near as much to do that has to do with fighting or agressive competations.

In this it is much like an extension of the real world. In RL, there are far more places to interact with other people socially than there are paintball fields and martial arts dojos and other places where you can socially fight with each other.

Going around in SL and seeking only combat-related activities is like visiting a foreign country and only looking for a new paintball field to play on. You may find some really good ones, but you'll overlook the vast majority of what that country has to offer.

Most of the time I spend in SL is spent creating things to sell, or for my enjoyment or that of my friends. Next in line is enjoying the company of friends from all over the world. Sometimes, with specific special friends, those interactions do get pornographic. But far more often we're just getting together to chat or to do things in each other's company. 95% or more of the hours I spend in-world have nothing at all to do with sex.

Aside from land and things one generally needs land for to enjoy, here's some of what I spend L$ on.

* Clothes for myself.
* Clothes for my friends.
* Upload costs for textures that I create, for sale or for things I want to build.
* In-world pics of my friends and I doing all sorts of things together.
* New hairstyles.
* New shoes.
* G-rated pose sets for sitting or cuddling with friends.
* New skins or avatar forms.
* Pose sets and other items for when I do choose to get intimate with others.

I also own a small amount of land, which I have spent L$ to obtain and which I spend L$ each month to maintain, and I have bought some furnishings and decorations for setting up my home as a neat and comfortable place to entertain my guests and friends.

Sorry, LL won't let me tell you where I sell my textures and where I offer my services as a sim builder. Ask me in-world.

Now if only the next noob who wants kill me for being ugly would just buy a combat HUD and a gun before sending there stupid IMs-

"damn you ugly Im gonna kill you"

and I reply, "Ok lets get it then",

then its always, "can you help me get a gun first?"

To me that sounds less like an attack and more like they want someone to play combat with. You might tell them they can go to Jessie or the other combat areas, or try out a combat system (there are many) or a dueling game like Combat Cards.

Weapons can be guns, swords, magic, or other things depending upon where you are or what you are using.
