From: Thunder Starbrook thanks sterling, i have tried that though, i've closed / disabled all my firewalls to see if it works with no luck There's no doubt this pc is the problem.. sort of.. worked fine beofre the last update though so it must be somthing to do with that. I know there are others with this same issue but i guess there are so few of us to make it worth the lindens hassle. No offence but 'open the ports' and 'knowledge base' is not helping. Hi Thunder, Having had the same problem recently with a friend of mine, which turned out to be the watch he was wearing (in sl that is!), please confirm that you have detached ALL attachments to your avi, and that you have no HUDs active. I don't suspect that this is the problem in your case, but just confirm and we can focus on the real problem. Regards Rock

I hadn't thought of a corrupted prim. That is an excellent suggestion. Click on yourself in world, select detach all, take off all Huds, take off all of your clothes. Then, go into edit appearance and create some "newbie pants". Try teleporting after this.
P.S. Try going into the Control Panel, "add/remove programs" and look at the list. Make sure there are not firewalls that you previously installed that you forgot to remove.

I was going to ask if you had any additional 'security' applications such as Spybot or other adware/whatever detector that's looking for a change of addresses within an application. Being ok in one sim, any one sim but crashing as soon as you change sim might suggest this. In response to the corrupt prim theory, Thunder's mrs crashes too? It's possible but highly unusual if two avatars are wearing the same corrupt prim? Thunder, easiest way to do a 100% change of apperance/clothes etc would be to drag an avatar out of library/clothes folder.

I've just tried the current first look in the hope it might help but hasn't. For anyone who cant be bothered to read all this, here's a recap.. I am unable to leave a sim, i can login to any sim* but then cant leave it without freezing and crashing. I've tried.. 1) Removing everything i'm wearing, all items and all clothes. 2) Uninstalled and reinstalled Second Life and Firstlook several times. 3) Open all relevent ports as per the blog instructions in all firewalls / routers. 4) Closed or disabled all firewalls, spy sofware and antivirus programs. 5) Walking / flying / using a craft and using teleports to access another sim. 6) Did an antivirus scan. 7) Scandisk & Defrag complete. Other stuff.. 1) I have a good pc, that worked no problems before the update. 2) Windows XP. 3) Explorer 7. 4) 10Meg ntl cable connection. * I've just noticed this isnt true, i can not get into any sim i type in my start up world, it just says that regoin is not availible and i get dumped at the nearest hub. Does anyone have anymore idea's? Although nothing so far has worked, thankyou to everyone who had read this thread and tried to help me

From: Tygarys Soyinka If you can't be, in the sim you love, love the sim your in! LOL very good Tygarys! Sadly, this is becoming rather more appropriate. Last night I was repeatedly refused entry to sims of my choice. Been a lot of rolling restarts just lately Thunder, a further recap; I believe you said neither your mrs or yourself can move to other sims on your machine but you can both succeed to on your mrs' machine?

If you turn on the Debug Console by doing Client / Consoles / Debug Console, what does it say just before the crash?

It is likely the part of greatest value would the part just before it crashed. There shouldn't be any problem posting anything the debug console showed so long as it doesn't contain anything you can tell you don't want known. If it happened to contain something that looked like you didn't want it made public you could just delete that portion and replace it with "DELETED BY ME!" or something. If I were physically at your location, I would use msconfig to check and see what programs are running. There might be something that no one would think about, like some kind of freeware security program, running that no one would think to turn off because no one would think of it at all. There's more than one way to see what your Windows Firewall is set to. One way is to double click on "Security Center" in your Control Panel, if you have one. That should produce a dialog that shows the status of Window's Firewall real clearly. I believe it can show some, but not all, other firewalls as well. What does that show in the firewall section? What is the exact model number of the Belkin router? If you can access your router's configuration screen and see what ports are open, can you tell if port 12043 is open for both TCP and UDP? Have you tried bypassing your network and connecting your computer directly to the cable modem? There's a program available from MS to check port status. You can get it Here . If you can get that running and then start up SL, you can do Help About Second Life and that will show you the IP address of the simulator you are connected to. The second line in the About Second Life dialog should read something like "You are at XXXX.XX, YYYY.YY, ZZZZ.ZZ in SomeSim located at simXXX.agni.lindenlab.com ( XX.YY.ZZZ.ZZZ:12035) " . The part in the parenthesis that I made big is the IP address of the simulator you are connected to. That IP address is what you need to paste into the Port Query utility in the space labeled "Enter destination IP or FQDN to query". Then you click the radio button for "Manually input query ports" and put in the port number you want checked and select the protocol you want to check with the Protocol: dropdown list. I'd put Both from that list; set the "Ports to query" field to 12043, click the Query button, and see what results it gives you. There might well be a much better program for checking port status and better ways to find what might be blocking access to a certain port. I just found the port status program using Google. I suspect that the problem will turn out to be that something is preventing SecondLife.exe from accessing port 12043 for both both TCP and UDP access. If this was on my machine, I'd use Task Manager to check what processes are running and try turning off processes that I don't recognize as being a system process. I'd use msconfig (Start Run msconfig) and check the Startup tab to see what programs are being launched on Windows startup. I would uncheck everything in startup there that wasn't absolutely esential to having the computer boot up successfully, which is generally everything. If I'd had as much trouble as you I'd even use the registry editor to check in the part where it shows what launches when the computer boots, and contemplate if anything there looked like it might be the source of the problem. After Second Life crashes, you can look at the log files it creates in Notepad. The log files in a default installation of SL are in a folder called C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME_GOES_HERE\Application Data\SecondLife\logs . The one of interest is the one called SecondLife.log. You can right click that and select a program to open it with. Notepad would do fine. Oh by the way, does the Second Life crash reporter run when you crash on trying to cross a border? If not, you might want to go to Preferences, General tab and use the dropdown list to set it so that it will run.

This was my reasoning for thinking there was a spyware or adware detector. The fact that Thunder can go into any one sim I thought discounted a hardware or router problem but an application might very well be sitting there in system screwing SL up every time it sees a server change as in sim border?

Have you tried to restore your computer to a date prior to when the problem started? maybe something was installed that is causing the problem. Might be worth a try.

Thankyou everyone who has offered help and idea's to solve this problem.. but... Today i spent several hours writing cd's and backstuff up, i'm going to format my c: drive and start agin! I've had problem after problem and now sl seems the least of my worries lol! I cant reformat my c: drive due to it being an advent pc, which has nortons anti virus.. anyone who knows nortons knows its very deep to the point that it kicks in before windows even starts up. To add to my problems i partitioned my drives when i first got this pc and now norton is trying to write to a drive that no longer exists, causing an error! I need to unpartition my drives beofre norton can dump to whatever drive it needs to, so that the advent recovery disks can then work and... you guessed it, my partition program (partition magic7) seems to be unable to return my F: G: and H: drives back to a single C: drive as it was when i bought the PC. I'm not very techie but if i can offer some advice to anyone.. 1) Dont get nortons! 2) Only partition if you really need to!! 3) Norton Ghost... *insert many many swear words here* 4) Dont punch old glass tube monitors, it really hurts. 5) Always keep some money in the bank for a new pc!!! If i cant get this sorted by tomorrow i'm off to pc world for a nice new computer. Even though this is a pretty good / new machine (2.8 P4) If sl does not work then i need to do somthing, if i cant format the dam thing then i guess i have no other choice. I'm not rich btw, this is gonna hurt lol Wish me luck people, i really really need it!

Before I would go out and buy a new PC and get Vista on it which has it's own set of problems with SL I would clean off that hard drive and reinstall everything. You say you cannot format your C: drive and it's partitioned. I've had problems with Partition Magic deleting partitions too. Check out Kim Kommano's site. I found her download page that has utilities for wiping a drive for resell or donating. The wipe utility writes random data to every sector on the drive..........effectively turning that drive into a like new drive. Like new meaning........no readable data on the drive at all (partitions are deleted and overwritten too). Then do your reinstall.........Norton and your partitions will be completely gone. I don't use "restore" CD's (have Microsoft XP installation disks) so I'm not sure if you have an option of doing a "custom" install with your discs....but if you do then choose that instead of the default and opt out of any programs you have that option available..........such as Norton. And if you don't have the custom option and have to take Norton with your installation then you might go and look for copy of XP (make sure it's a legal copy though ) and do it that way. Then go get an antivirus and firewall of your choice (Check out Kim Kommando's site...........she has links to lots of good and free AV's and Firewalls). This is a lot less expensive than going out and buying another computer........bigger pain in the butt but easier on the checkbook I did this with an old Compaq computer...........and once I did it the only thing Compaq about it was the name on the case, keyboard and monitor. http://www.komando.com/downloads/categories.aspx?cat=Techie%20tools

Thanks peegy, I've now got to the point where i have only one drive (using windows managment instead of partition magic to remove the unwanted drives) and a further 60gig 'unallocated space' but i'm still getting ghosterr.txtx errors when trying to use my advent restore disks. I cant seem to add that unallocated space to my c: drive, it says i have 'too mnay errors'
I'll have a look at that link tomorrow when its not so late anf i'm not drunk lol, ty again.

LOL sorry, i have drunk far to much tonight!!
!!!BREAKING NEWS!!!
As you now i have been working towards formating my hard drive..
I tend to randomly uninstall programs before doing this, thinking that the less there is on my pc to remove, the faster the format process will be.
I've removed entire drives with 10-20-30 if not more gig of info in, going though my start /all programs randomly clicking uninstall. Then i got to my format problem i discribed in a previous post.
Thinking i'm too drunk to continue and unable to think straight to solve my formatting problems i went back in second life to have some fun (one of the few programs i didnt uninstall)
Straight away i started training someone on the skills of 'security' (in my home sim of course) I set him on fire, he orbited me, then sent me a tp. would you beleive it i accepted and arrived in a different sim!!! omg for the first tiome in 2 weeks i have been out of my home sim, huk!
Straight away i tried to fly over the sim edge, it worked!!! i then tp'd to a shop on the other side of the world, it worked!!!!!! woooohoooo!!!! wow omg woohoo!
I am still pretty drunk (lol) so i will double checj this in the morning but it would seem that one of the programs i 'rendomly' uninstalled was conflicting with the recent sl update, causing all my problems.
I removed so many program it may be tricky to pin it down to just one but i'll continue to look into this, and try sl after each program i reinstall.
I just have one thing to say... WOOOOHOOOO!!! i logging back in now, if anyone wants to send me a tp i'd be delighted to try it out lol

Is the conflict found?

Hello Thunder, It seems that I have the same problem (I also went through all the steps you described to solve that) Have you found out what software causes the conflict with SL?
