Q: I recently found a parcel for sale. There were buildings on the parcel that were not selling with the land. I purchased the land and returned the objects to the owner. A few minutes later I get this avatar screaming at me because she had renters on the parcel and didn't know who to reimburse. She said I should have waited to return the objects. There was no note in the land description field telling me buildings were rented so I had no idea. I feel bad, but shouldn't she have resolved these kinds of things before she put the land up for sale? I don't feel like I need to apologize to her, since I don't think I did anything wrong. Am I being a jerk about it?

No. Her fault, entirely. She shouldn't have been selling while collecting rent.

"Jerk" maybe. But you're in the right. You own the land, you have toal say on what builds get to be on it.

She was just scapegoating you for her failure to keep peroper records.

you can feel bad but that doesnt change the fact that she was irresponsible in not recording that information prior to placing the property for sale.

If nothing was mentioned of it in the land description when you bought it, you had every right to assume she had her affairs in order when she put the land up for sale. It was her responsibilty to keep track of her obligations to her renters.

She should have taken care of that BEFORE putting the land up for sale. Once it was deeded to you, it wasn't your responsibility to wait for her, at her convenience.

If she persists, you can mute her and ban her from YOUR land.

If its your land, you can do what you like with the items on it.

Where you expected to let them finish their rental terms for free??

its not your problem, the only thing you owed her was the money for the land and the only thing she owed you was the land, end of transaction.

A few times I have IMed the person first before hitting return, but all the responsibility is on the seller. She never should have set the land before clearing it.

Hey I bought land and stopped a yard sale once so don't feel bad.

This was by the way a silly move by me as I was planning to rent the land out and would have had loads of visitors to the parcel.

I've had this happen a few times. If they are there I try to ask, "Is it safe to do a return now". If they are not there I go ahead and return items. Bottom line is when you set it for sale, you should be ready to accept what happens when it sells, because isn't that the point? To get it sold?

If you pointed and laughed at her, called her names and orbited her... THEN you'd be being a jerk about it. ;)

As it is, she dropped the ball and yelled at you over it. She's the jerk, and I feel bad for her renters.

If you ever find yourself buying land from this person again, hit the delete button instead. :p

I've bought land in PG areas before just so I could return the sex pose balls the two were using on that land at the time. :) If it is for sale, then it can be purchased at any time.

You're a land bot.

I bought six expensive 1024 parcels, and got an angry IM saying, "How did you get my land!!??"

I suppose he thought I was a land bot, except the dumbest land bot in existence wouldn't have bought those parcels for what I paid.

To the O.P., did poor little avatar renters fall out of their houses when you returned their prims? (That would have been funny).

I was just commenting on how it's the former owner's fault for not paying attention to what they're doing when a regular av buys the land but when a landbot does it it's a flawed system and LL needs to take action against such a scourge NOW!

What a tangled web we weave!!

*chuckles* Wow.. yeah, wow. She's a goof for setting it for sale while still renting it out! And for failing to keep proper records in the first place.

Sorry, but if it's set to sale and is BOUGHT then it's the new owner's right to do whatever they want with the land ;)

Don't feel bad I've had 3 or 4 people tell me theres a rumor that I'm Sandy Shu. As if I would use huge ugly for sign signs! When anyone ask's me if I'm her, I just say that I'm so good at finding deals, I chase myself to them.

Should have waited? Why? Did she wanna sell it or not? She has no right to say a thing to you except "Thank you so much for buying my land!" You shouldn't feel bad at all, that's her fault for not letting her renters know what was up.

SHE is the jerk. And an idiot, apparently. Who sells land with tenants on it, unless that is part of an arranged business deal? It's her problem(s), it is completely not your fault. Some people...

If any of the renters contact you, you can refer them to her. That should be fun.

BTW, you are brave indeed to post on this forum asking if you're a jerk. There are all too many people just itching to say YES! Glad you got a civilized outcome.
