Anyone else is getting huge packet loss... until the amount you can not move or anything at all?

It must be something in the direction of Linden Labs.... other games I play have no problems at all.

Yes, huge packet loss and terrible problems with tp. Today is one of those days when I wonder what I'm paying for *sigh*

I'm getting really badly synched chat text. To the point that neither myself or who I was talking to could understand each other. =/

For the past week my packet loss bar has been solid red half the time, and I've got a 15Mbit fiber connection. Something's really wrong on the back-end it would seem.

Check your ass. My prim hair ends up down there after teleports every once in a while. A couple of times I was unfortunate to find my spike-heeled boots crammed in there.

Yeah, I have really long hair, it looks delightful when it ends up hanging out my butt :-D

i'm hiding behind my sofa at the moment till i unruth. packet loss is jumping wildly, fps is around 10 and bw is 10 and after 1.5 hrs only 250 of over 5000 inv items has downloaded! But what i really want to know is if it's just coincidence that your hair and shoes always ends up stuck in your ass or some Lindens idea of a good laugh?

I'm not experiencing the major problems mentioned in this thread, but have been having Lag and TP issues. My question, since I'm not a computer whizz is, what level of packet loss is a problem? If you read the notes on it in SL Help, anything above 0.0% is a problem! They suggest contacting my ISP to address the problem. Well, I constantly run at .5 - .7 % packet loss. I had a rep from SL on the phone about another problem and mentioned the packet loss and he said that it's only a problem if it ranges between 10 - 20 % packet loss. How can his answer be so different from the SL Help note? Does anyone know what acceptible packet loss should be? I hesitate calling my ISP for help before I have a better grasp of the problem.

Well the packet loss bar goes full red when I hit 5-7% packet loss, and I only look at the bar when I find the client has become jerky and unresponsive. Even though 5% is a pretty low number, it seems to have a significant effect on how SL works. And hunny, it's probably not your ISP. Lots of people are having these issues and they're recent.

Several months ago when SL could only handle about 24,000 users, Linden Lab said their network had become saturated; there was so much traffic they simply couldn't fit all the packets into their pipes. They did some infrastructure upgrades that really helped. Online count's been between 34-38K the past week during peak hours lately though, so I'm thinking it's time for another upgrade on SL's back end.

Thanks Wildefire, you seem to have a better handle on this than the Lindens. And BTW, I'm a guy, hunny! :) Unless maybe you're one of those, not that there's anything wrong with that!

Most professionally run networks would call 1% packet loss excessive. Many would never tolerate .2% (two tenths of one percent). When I read or hear of someone shrugging his shoulders with a statement "that it's only a problem if it ranges between 10 and 20%" I wonder about professionalism.

But I have my personal thoughts about Linden Labs' professionalism and I won't bore you with it again.

One of those what? I call everyone hunny/hun/hon. I don't discriminate! Apologies if you took offense. I never mean it in a derogatory way.

No offense taken, Wildefire. You're definitely not a Seinfeld fan or you would have gotten the joke, and my name too!

So Peggy, are you saying that my .5 - .7% packet loss is a SL problem? I thought the guy on the phone was talking out his butt. He also gave me a very unsatisfactory answer on my original question as did the volunteer on the Help Request IM.

Hehe...

It was yesterday just not possible to be in SL... So for the time being I have reactivated my SWG account. No lag at all... and they have done some nice things to the game.

Yesterday night, I suddenly went out for a walk in mid air after I saw another one doing just the same as it passed through my treehouse. My own walk was somewhat embarrassing since I hadn't been able to put any clothes on, btw. But when I managed to tp back home (quite an adventure, TP-ing, that too) and tried to dress, I just froze.

Relogging and relogging and rebooting and relogging didn't help. Well, at least I'm (apparantly) not the only one - I was beginning to wonder if my system was falling apart.

Maintenance downtime today. I hope it helps.

Same here, Morwen. I couldn't move at all last night and had to relog about 6 times because I looked like n00b. I had a lot of ppl to meet so it was pretty frustrating.

On a TCP network, 1% packet loss would, indeed, be pretty dire. But doesn't SL use UDP?
